Why did you choose Bible? Big bang theory makes as much sense as any theory that can be put into words/symbols, cause words limit life to scope of language/symbols that one is trying to represent reality - why not choose that theory? I like the Buddhist view the best when I feel more on the "non conceptual side" and Brahmanism/Vedanta when I feel more "dramatic", for instance. Why not try with any other set of beliefs/concepts that limit the experience of "what is" through their respective/particular language?

I must admit that I spend my time mostly on harm reduction side. So I might caught few threads that misrepresented your true interest. And to be honest I wanted to hear from you and not make assumptions.

No, I do not fundamentally respect them. But I am also conscious of my limitations and inclined to view this whole "happening" as one unfolding. So in that sense I have respect for all. But that is on another level of thoughtfulness. In my "daily, autopilot consciousness mode" I don't have respect for the Catholic Church, Communism, Nationalism, Football Clubs or Military alliances. I have made a little widening so my views could be more clear. I hope that I answered clearly that I don't like or respect rigid concepts and dogmatic beliefs.

If you cross-reference the being's username with the words "misogynist" and "homophobic", you're in for some fun It's almost every single post by it. It also doesn't seem to realize that Niemöller himself was a priest.

It seems to think everything the church ever did, now is the fault of modern Christians, it's really cute. That's like saying everything the USA does is the fault of the people, or that the true evil behind Nazi Germany wasn't Hitler or Hindenburg, but Germans today. They are the issue. When the endemic sex scandals of the Catholic Church came to light I was shocked that many practicing Catholics I know did not immediately abandon the religion. As I had been abused by a priest myself I was particularly hurt that members of my own family stayed loyal to the Church.

Across a range of very heated discussions I found that your average Australian Catholic has very little regard for the authority of the institutional Church. Most see themselves as part of a distinctive social and cultural community guided by the spirit of Jesus Christ.

They pointed out to me the endless number of Good Works done by average Catholics. Building hospitals and schools, volunteering on nursing homes and hospices, caring for the homeless, assisting refugees, opposing the government on moral issues from time to time. Generally being upstanding members of the community and governed by love and compassion for others.

These people, they said, are the real Church. Not the priests and bishops. They acknowledged that there were institutional failings and individual bad actors within the heirarchy of the Church and that it had a problematic history when judged by today’s standards (woke or regular). But they were insistent that the good done by the community of believers outweighed the bad done by the institution.

I refelcted on that and am inclined to believe them. There are tens of millions of Catholics in the world who live good decent moral lives. They follow the core principles of Christ’s teaching and take an increasingly revisionist and progressive interpretation of problematic (and selectively quoted) bible verses like:

I think we should not be hating on such people. Because anything worthy of the name Christianity, Gnostic or Regular, has no truck with hatred.
