that's nonsense. i have seen PC-based acts (mostly in the psytrance arena) who are perfectly 'viable'.

^I used to spin Pretentious just like you, man.

err, progressive.

Let me tell you why your opinion isn't valid:

I once spun the "genre" that you spin. Except I did it better than ANY of the guys in your avatar... I paid 32.50 per ticket(times 3 of us) to see Sasha and Digweed play.

Within the FIRST 15 MINUTES, they had already trainwrecked twice and had several miscues and even a skipping CD.

Now, I implore you... do you stick around and ride it out, hoping to get your 100 dollars worth, or do you bail--knowing it gets no better from here?

I stuck around.

Through-out the next 2.5ish hours, the only thing that they could do that I couldn't involved their track selection--I guess if I produced a bunch of tracks and played only my shit, I'd be rocking something that noone had ever heard before TOO!!

But wait, it gets better... this was 2002... how many years since "progressive" started? It hadn't progressed ANYWHERE in 3 years up until that point, and NOW the only progression has been into breaks and electro--which NOW you've tried to label as progressive...

electro is older than you or I. And ya know what? It's a HELL of a lot older than progressive... so how are you not calling progressive ELECTRO?

lastly, EVERY proggy punk I have ever talked to has said that progressive is better than other genre's because of long, seamless mixes...

yea, and they are long and seemless because they are the SAME BEAT FOR 3 HOURS!

I can hold progressive mixes for upwards of 10 minutes if I have enough track to do it.. and I do it on 3 decks, 2 CDJ's and ableton... so I implore you yet again...

tell me how I am ignorant! ignorance is never trying something and hating on it.

I've tried it and it was no challenge, mentally, or as a DJ. It is going nowhere that we haven't already been. At this point, it's REGRESSIVE HOUSE/*TRANCE at 128-133bpm*

so go back to mixing, homie...

unf unf unf unf.

hah. sucker. please post some more trance so that you may lull me to sleep.

BTW, if they are PC based acts, they aren't DJs.

Should be a completely different scene. or should it?

I'd love to see PCDJ Sasha on a flyer sometime.

dude, first off, you could have just said, I used to spin progressive and I don't like it. its boring/easy/regressive/blah blah blah. that would have sufficed in countering my point. I was not aware of you previous genre experience, so I retract my previous statement. fair enough?

secondly, the three fellas in my avatar have influenced me greatly. your miliage may vary.

finally, I'll gladly go back to doing my long seemless mixes, because guess what? that's what moves me. yeah, its called progressive, do I think it's progressive? no. its just what it happends to be called. Is house any better of a description for house? no. all that matters is your music makes you move, my music makes me move. I don't care if your the most technically sound dj on the planet who can implement every dj tool known to man. thats not what djing is about, so take your genre hating elitist bullshit and shove it up your ass.

and now back to the program...

fyi, EVERYONES opinion is perfectly valid, whether it is right or wrong may be questioned but thats another story.Ill refrain from really tearing into a lot of what you said in this post as well. I will say however, when you start saying stuff like "i did it way better blah blah" it turns me off from even wanting to care what else you may have said, use some tact man... you have lots of knowledge if you put it out correctly.

That is the heart of it all, amen :D

validity is in the eye of the beholder. upon being called ignorant(ironic, considering his ignorance of my previous experience), he lost any and all right to speak to me anymore--however, that doesn't mean he can't keep talking... it just means that once I finish slicing his ignorance to pieces--in great length, mind you--I will no longer acknowledge his existence, as I am about to do now.

Second of all, if you've ever heard me mix, and then heard Sasha or Digweed mix--you would be agreeing, not questioning.

I've seen better sets out of people who've been spinning for a year, than they have ever put together for me. EVERYTIME, I see them, they've been way too high to even stand up straight--and using them as an example of who we should look up to and immitate is a piss poor idea, in my book.

Sasha was so coked out when he came to town that I wanted to slap him in the face for disgracing himself, and his entire genre--as if it could be further disgraced.

I have no problem admitting you're a bad ass dj if you prove it, so lets have it, you best set. link please. put up or shut up.

"Sasha doing a PA set is the equivalent of a Crystal Method DJ set... anyone ever make the mistake of catching one of those bullshit sets? Same thing."

Dude, I happen to love just about every genre of music with the exceptions of most country music, and almost all progressive as well...

if you think that my tastes are limited because of that, trhen fucking so be it--I still get booked, and I still rock a party--chew on that, and get off of my nutts

bwahahahaha. play one record that you consider to be good, I'll subsequently tell you it's not. see how well your playgroundesque remark works?

You were called out to either put up or shut up and it appears you can do neither.

still waiting on that link...

btw, this thread might as well get closed since its officially off in no mans land at this point.

music is music is music is music. art is art is art. if at least one person, at one point in time is feeling what the mouse clicking dj is playing, then who cares?

the mouse clicker isn't a DJ, which is the point that most of the people here have been trying to make for the last weeks.

fuck eet.

put up, what? a mix?

there is no way to verify that I mixed it myself at all, so whats the fucking point?

So you honestly think you're so good no one would believe it's you thats doing the mixing? rrrrright.

"the mouse clicker isn't a dj" the same way photoshop users aren't artists. 8(
(disclaimer, you can teach a monkey to use photoshop filters, I'm talking about people who use it as a tool). Oh wait, there's the magic word, a tool. Dismissing the artist because of the instrument he uses is close-minded at best.

All things being equal though, watching someone run a computer is boring as fuck compared to watching someone do it analog (well, hands on anyway).
