But this would be like an anti-name dropping thread. I hate name dropping threads because they're just about the most recent people who went out and got fucked up together.

This is the one BIG thread that has been simmering for ages. And while there's a lot of bickering and stuff in it, there are also some valid points raised. I think whoever is the new mod would do well to pay close attention to the way this has developed (the leadup to it as well).

I don't think this thread has half the punch of some of the other threads but I think that's mainly to do with the fact there isn't a mod who makes every second post saying, 'Well YOU fix it then.' or 'Shut up. Bluelight isn't a democracy.' or 'I like nipple clamps.' etc etc etc which only served to fuel the fire.

This is mostly light-hearted noonereallygivesafuck type posting.
 
I vote Psychik - you seemed to indicate you had a good understanding of how current mods should be doing their job:)

I've had issues with the way things were moderated in Aus. Social in the past, but I think within the last year the mod work has been great. There has been room within threads for meandering, yet the place hasn't turned into the lounge - and shouldn't.
 
ok so this is my issue of late ok (in all seriousness)

I usually bite my toungue on here and always have. I know my opinions and perspectives on issues is vastly different from the majority. Hence why i bite my toungue. I like chaos but don't want to ruffle feathers in a bad way so i don't (didn't rather) Then i decide "you know what? fuck it... i'm going to say exactly what i want about everything"

and guess what happens?

I get told (and yes i know i'm repeating myself but i want to put it all in one post

*that i'm a heratless bitch because i'm not a fan of a celebrity

*That i have less intelligence because i really can't be bothered (and am not as talented as some) with spelling...

*That i'm on a high horse and think i'm high and mighty because i stand up for what i believe in (which obviously made people feel bad enough about their own ethics hence trying to make me feel bad about mine)

*that i'm not tactful so people don't understand me

*That *I* am the one that is the aggresser

*That i'm defensive and i take everything personally

so because i have different views i get all these things thrown at me.

because obviously i am in the wrong here.

and to end i would like to apologise for me being such a tool today (just to show my good graces) :)

I fucked Pleo and he was great but don't tell anyone.

Pleo touched me emotionally when we had that great conversation over MSN. I felt like he understood the person I really am.

Don't change it at all. I love this place. I do my best to ensure that 90% of my posts are less than 3 lines long, utterly idiotic and on page 3,547 of the "Who eats tomato sauce with things other than meat" thread. This is the type of bluelight social we need.

With that in mind I have some suggestions;

Independent thought is evil and should ruthlessly exterminated.

People posting threads which cannot degenerate into an 8,000 page, one word post-whoring competition should be rounded up and shot.

All threads should contain enough pictorial content or other bandwidth heavy material to cause the average 56k modem to commit ritual suicide.

All threads should contain links to tantalizing sounding web pages which cause my internet browser to explode on connection.

All threads, even those completely unrelated to actual bluelighters or event involving bluelighters, should contain at least 50% backslapping and injokes (preferably injokes that aren't funny, or at least haven't been since they were first used back in the dawn of bluelight time).

Everybody should say they have fucked everybody, in that utterly hilarious, man on man, woman on woman, man on donkey. internet popularity gathering, "I haven't really but I'll say it to get a personal response" kind of way (see the which bluelight have you fucked thread for details).

People who use the social forum should be prevented at all costs from even realising that there is actually a harm minimization page at bluelight.ru

All bluelighters, regardless of when they were registered, should continually bring up the days when Pleo ruled social, bluelight was green and bunny was still "blu" and "fluffy" in order to show just how hardcore they really are.

Also, newer bluelighters should refer to things that I didn't even know had happened as being "back in the day", and then proceed to make crappy injokes about it.

All new threads must be double checked to ensure that they have been done before.

All bluelighters must begin to make jaded cynical one line quips about everything once they have been on the forum for more than a year.

Every bluelighter must at some stage make a triumphant return to bluelight after a monumental disappearance (three months will usually do it), and consequently be heralded by everyone who remembers them as if they are the second coming of christ.

Well now that I have got that off my chest I am going to start a "you know you are a bluelighter when ....." thread. That hasn't been done for ages.
 
note to all: I'M going to close this thread if it degenerates into pointless shit. hmm, i'm reading page one and there's already another three, so i don't hold high hopes.

now, i understand the off-topicness of certain posts is what gives aus social a lot of its charm. if you read through most of the good threads - and if you want specific examples, go and have a look at ANY of the threads in the archive (nearly all of them have gone off-topic at one stage or another, but it's the fact that people have allowed themselves a certain level of restraint when doing so, instead of turning it into the lounge, which makes them good threads) - they all have meandering discussions which sometimes skew the original topic somewhat randomly.

the main point here is, and always has been, that this place is supposed to be for discussion. i very much doubt that any mod is going to give two shits about somebody making an off-topic remark if it's just a small joke that everyone can enjoy, or even if it's a long-winded rant about something only tenuously linked to the original topic, all as long as it will continue discussion.

people wonder why all the off-topic stuff has been deleted recently? well, most of it is bickering between the stupid fucking cliques that exist here and in real life, which - of course - the people in said cliques enjoy, but most others don't. this place has enough elitist post-whores/clique members as it is (myself included)...it really doesn't need to make it even more intimidating for other members.

regardless, there are rules in this place. i've been modding here for about two years now, and i've seen enough to know that in most places the rules work. and even when they don't, most people have agreed that they're the best possible constraints that could be put in place in order to continue discussion/prohibit bullshit.

i'll get back to this when i have a real chair.
