the official 2008-09 NCAA football thread!

Rough day for the Pac so far...

The mormons weren't so kind to Norm...:( All I can do is laugh about how bad the Bruins looked today. BYU BCS BUSTER!

speaking of getting homer erotic- im developing a gigantic man-crush on moreno... can you hook me up pander?

You can have him if he plays the way he did today... Granted, its not entirely his fault. Lots of 8 yard runs. But good gawd, what an ugly win for the dawgs. If it wasn't for the two goal line turnovers, it would have been a drubbing.

Edit: I take it back, because I completely forgot. Here the fake to Moreno enabled a great run by Stafford. Knowshon then made a great run for UGA's only TD of the game.

Game's getting a little out of hand though the Buckeyes don't look THAT bad despite the score currently being 21-3, but worry not OSU fans...you've got your own Vince Young in the making. Pryor's a freak.

Since this season is now basically shot for Ohio State, I wonder if Tressel will now step up Pryor's transition into becoming the starting quarterback. The more starts he has this year, the more he will be ready for next year. Todd Boeckman looked absolutely terrible tonight. He had no touch on the ball whatsoever, and made terrible decisions.

(Of course the whole team's judgment wasn't exactly tip top either. Those holding penalties were ridiculous.)

absolutely!

pretty excited to watch this kid in the years to come.

couldnt agree more. i think the buckeyes did the best the could given the situation. the o line went to hell in the second half and there were far too many penalties, but the only individual player who didnt show up was boeckman. no presence in the pocket. no ability to feel preasure. no command of the game. no leadership. no rising to the occasion. no fuckin nothing!

i'd expect more from a 30 year old senior :|

USC-OSU
men, and boys....

I don't even think Mr. Beanie would have made much of a difference when the only decent runs opened up were broken plays by Pryor around the outside. Yeah, there were moments of good play by OSU, but overall the O-line couldn't block for passing OR running.

Watching USC made me think of a 'professional' team - no stupid mistakes, everyone did their job WELL, receivers running those crsip patterns everyone talks about, quarterback never really making mistakes....and never really pressured. I hope buckeye fans don't try to salvage some pride from 'holding the top team in the nation to only 35 points'.....USC pulled the dogs back. They could have gone for field goals when in range, they could have used mroe passing in the 4th quarter. No, Petey called the dogs off as best he could, sticking with the run to grind the clock, going on 4th downs to give you a chance to get the ball back without eating more points...if you were man enough to do it, I mean, you couldn't ask him to just take a knee on 4th down....could you?

I suppose that's another question - did USC's offense look so good because of a bad OSU defense? I think it made them look better, but the USC offense in general looked really good to me. Either way, I've no problem with USC sitting up top the remainder of the season. UGA certainly didn't strike me as a threat to the top position. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if UGA slips to 2 behind OU, at least until the SOS starts ratcheting up for UGA. On OSU's schedule? I won't be really surprised at all if Troy beats them :\ Yeah, those buckeyes are pissed off and have something to prove....but they just can't get.it.done.

UGA - USC
Um, yeah...didn't get to see much of the game, but the "highlights"....not so good. Spare me crying the "SEC is so tough" or "Spurrier seems to always have their number". Fact - a top team competing for a national championship will have some close calls, some wins they mighta-shoulda lost, just don't let this happen again.

UCLS-BYU
Holy crap! Now TN looks even worse with that loss.

CAL-MD
Gag...and barf. :|

ND-MICH
Double barf. I feel bad for Charlie 'blowing out' his leg, and he can't even feel special or milk it any as JoePa already went thru this and is back in the saddle with a conference championship team....suck it up fat boy. I do like his quote, however "... How do you like that? I feel like an athlete. First time in my life." :D Yeah both teams needed a win, and both needed to show their offense can at least move the ball and score in someone. I just hope the fans of either school take this with a pillar of salt - you may saw you played decent against a historical rival and powerhouse, but both teams are still sucking ass at this point. Rain or no rain.

AU-MS St...(3-2?)
Baseball season is over, homies...and your schools scored more in baseball 8) Again, skip the "SEC is sooo tough" or whatever. That was just bad. No excuses, no nothing - just bad. #9 AU? Expect to fall in the rankings with that win.

USF-KAN
Damn. I missed it, missed it all. How those two chose to set up non-conference with each other is beyond me (but kudos to both for doing so). Sounds like it would ahav been a grand old night in Ybor City this weekend. Go Bulls.

Rankings tomorrow....I'd guess (or if I voted):
1 - USC
2 - OU
3 - UGA
4 - MIZZ
5 - UF (homerism included)
6 - LSU
7 - TX
8 - WISC
9 - AUB
10 - ALA

...putting ECU around 11 or 12

...and yeah, that's putting 5 SEC teams in the top 10, something I expect will happen this week, or next, but it is only a blip until conference play really kicks in. And as I hope buckeyes don't hold onto 'only 35 points against #1', I hope the SEC teams don't hold onto 'our only loss is to top 5 or top 10 teams'....those top 5 or top 10 teams ain't been all that impressive yet :\ But hey, at least we play 'em :) Prove yourselves, you've got the opportunity.

auburn-Miss state.... 3-2??? what is this, soccer?! ;)

torn on the USC-ohio state game. would've loved to see USC get knocked off, but loved seeing ohio get creamed.

TLB: i didn't watch many games yesterday, but i completely agree with your top 3. i knew that with #3 OK fucking pummeling washington and #2 UGA squeaking by s.carolina, that UGA would drop.

USC vs. OSU
Did anybody really see this particular game coming? I mean, we all knew USC was going to win, with or without Beanie Wells. Not scoring a single touchdown though-- Damn. I hate it for the Buckeye fans here. The Big Ten really is in decline at the moment, but the fundamentals are still there, the recruiting is still there, and there will still be good football played. Its just going to be played by Wisconsin and Penn State this year.

As for USC: they are an uncontested number one. I don;t know who's voting for Oklahoma, or Georgia, or Florida, but they're fooling themselves. Nobody else has played a game where nothing goes wrong for them-- perfect execution-- never mind playing against a big time program like OSU. They'll be in Miami for sure this year, and whoever goes there to meet them, had better be planning on some exploits for their offensive system starting tomorrow morning.

UGA vs. USC
I don't blame anybody outside of the South for not wanting to see this one, or any other game in this series. It doesn't sound like an important game, and really, aside from the teams playing in it, it isn't. That said, I don;t want to sound like an SEC apologist, though I will, when I say that this is how it always looks. Its discouraging to see a team with NC aspirations thrash around on the ground like that, but we're happy with the W. Its also a shame that ASU tanked this week. We needed a statement game, and I hope a win in Tempe still carries the weight it would have a week ago.

Auburn vs. MSU
Now this was an embarrassment. I don;t know, maybe its because im a UGA homer, but this reflected much worse on Auburn than UGA's win did on them. What are they still doing in the top ten?

I was at the game and it was amazing. I thought for sure it was over at the half. I was expecting Kansas to continue trouncing us, but to see the Bulls hold Kanas to a total of 9 yards in the 3rd. oh man, that place was electric. I would love to have heard what Leavitt said to the boys during half-time. Whatever it was, they got fired up.

and Channelside is the place to go these days. Ybor is dead. ;)

agreed!!

and i was ECSTATIC to be finally rid of fucking brandon cox!! i'm not diggin the new QB at all...lots of floater passes, the players were outrunning his passes in general.. and the defense let way too many through for the sack option.

the game was a borderline nightmare.

I know the bashing is not necessarily 'on', and these are out of place being so long past, but I wanted to share what I came acrossed and thought was funny.

No ill will intended, just a moment of ha-ha. <3

Still, I have to wonder if this 'game of the century' will now be replaced in the midwest with the OSU-MICH 'game of the century' this season....at least for the OSU and MICH fans.

And...now 3 minutes later, my addiction kicks in again...for those suffering along with me:

Wed 8:00 PM ET Kansas State at Louisville (I predict L'ville 24-17)
Thu 8:30 PM ET No. 21 West Virginia at Colorado (I'll go WVU Colorado 28-13)
Fri 8:00 PM ET Baylor at Connecticut (UCONN 38-6)

Then we can look into a juicy Saturday. Games I'll try to catch:

12:00 PM ET Troy at No. 13 Ohio State (Troy 35-27)
TBA Miami (FL) at Texas A&M (TxA&M 14-10)
3:30 PM ET No. 4 Florida at Tennessee (UF 38-14)
3:30 PM ET Notre Dame at Michigan State (won't watch it, but MSU 17-3)
7:00 PM ET No. 18 Wake Forest at No. 24 Florida State (gag, FSU 14-7)
7:45 PM ET No. 6 LSU at No. 10 Auburn (Tigers 17-14...Can't decide which tiger team, though)
8:00 PM ET No. 3 Georgia at Arizona State (UGA 31-20)

...wow, is my SEC-ism showing, or are there really not any real interesting games for PAC-10, Big11 or Big12 this weekend? Honest question, as this was compiled running down the ESPN schedule and cut'n'pasting whatever caught my eye...retrospect shows little happening this weekend :\

Okay, guys (and loverly ladies <3), this is my last post today - I swear (and my boss is getting upset).

i dont know how much this is going to hurt the conference as a whole but the buckeyes getting drubbed everytime they're on a national stage has to start hurting recruiting at some point. no one wants to be the buffalo bills of college football. (no offense intended gm)

I was lovin' that Buckeyes loss. But for Oklahoma to jump us like that...Wasn't Washington 0-2 going into that game with OK? Most rivalry games like UGA-SCU are close, esp. with Darth Visor. Yeah, I was not happy with our play this week and I am a "homer" so to speak, but we shouldn't have been jumped by OK. The Vandy game turned us around last year, so let us Dawg fans hope we're turning a corner.
