the official 2008-09 NCAA football thread!

i like to see all of the qb progression coming out of the big 12.
personally, i am a big fan of chase daniel.

i got to baylor university and our football team sucks huge dick.
i went to carroll high school and graduated a year behind daniel. i didn't think he would have a good college career until i saw him tear it up and make it to the sun bowl against oregon state (my dad's alma matter) even though the tigers lost.

i'm not sure reesing is all that good and i think mccoy at texas might be overrated.

honestly, i'm just tired of hearing how good the sec is when all they do is run the ball behind big o lines and the games just seem to be monotonous.

i'm pulling for chase for heisman and hope they make it to the bcs after getting fucked last year. usc v. missouri in title game. make things exciting!

I was lovin' that Buckeyes loss. But for Oklahoma to jump us like that...Wasn't Washington 0-2 going into that game with OK? Most rivalry games like UGA-SCU are close, esp. with Darth Visor. Yeah, I was not happy with our play this week and I am a "homer" so to speak, but we shouldn't have been jumped by OK. The Vandy game turned us around last year, so let us Dawg fans hope we're turning a corner.

do you really think that the UGA-SC game was that much of a "rivalry" until spurrier came on board? i mean, it's not florida...tennessee...auburn....3 big long-standing traditional rivalry games where i agree the game could go either way.

i agree with the rankings. UGA was unanimously named preseason #1 (which i thought they totally deserved), but so far have not really played like a #1 team. the oklahoma game was completely decisively a "win" and if UGA really was that strong, i think SC would've been a non-issue.

i really do hope y'all turn a corner, so to speak. i'm a die-hard auburn fan, but i can recognize good football. UGA have the potential, so show us why you were voted #1. lots of my family are dawg fans and i can put my auburn love aside for that. :)

oklahoma went across the country and hammered a team that took byu down to the wire last week.

georgia went across the street to barely beat an unranked sec bottom feeder with an overrated melodramatic coach

advantage: oklahoma

Well faris, we do call it the Border War and have a "Border Bash" in Augusta, Ga., which is about half way between Athens and Columbia. So yeah, I think of it as a rivalry, even though they've only won 14 games against us. They play us close every year, too. They beat us last year, which prevented us from going to the SEC Championship and possibly the Championship game. There are lots of chicken fans here in my city, and they really hate us. I lived out in Oklahoma for a couple years and I know the kind of athletes they put out and they are a good team, as they are every year. They get lots of Texas recruits and their high school players are huge. I mean, they look like some 1AA teams! They are media darlings so they jumped us. Carolina has a pretty good D. Jasper Brinkley is a monster. And dammit if Tripp Chandler didnt drop three balls and there were other drops. Hopefully Richt will have that straightened out. Chandler should ride pine for a minute. He even missed an important blocking assignment.

Im stoked for the LSU - Auburn game this week....

The past four meetings have been decided by a combined 14 points. The home team has won every year this decade, and in 6 of the 8 the winner has represented the SEC West. ....Its hsould be AU's turn this year

Should be a Defensive struggle as Aubrun looks alll around horrid on Offense and LSu is still trying to break in a new QB. Although LSU's running game looks superb. But AU D looks as good as anyone's in the country (Miss St's Offense is even worse than AU's though)

LSU homerism aside (well Ill give it a shot ) LSU breaks the trend with a 13 - 6 LSU win....Although I wouldnt be surprised if AU pulls this one out due to some bonehead TO's by the LSU ineperienced QB's

Here's a hype video to highlight the last 4 contests leading up to this Saturday

LSU vs Auburn Hype Video

October 20 2007 Baton Rouge, Louisiana 18 4 LSU 30-24

SC was so close to beating UGA (SC fumbled on the two instead of a possible overtime-clenching TD). Georgia seemed worn-out in the fourth quarter. Hopefully coach MR will get you guys straightened out soon.

pretty drab day so far. looking forward to lsu auburn in about 10 minutes.

is it just me or is phil fulmer the lloyd carr of the sec?

Can anyone help me make sense of what happened at the end of the LSU-Auburn game?? With the score 26-21, Auburn makes a great throw and catch downfield to make the first down with like 20 seconds left in the game. Then, instead of rushing down the field to spike the ball and stop the clock (to hopefully get off one last shot at the endzone), the offense simply lets the game clock run out.

WTF?!?!? I don't understand it. Did I completely miss something? The announcers glazed over it like it wasn't a big deal. It seems to me like Auburn completely pissed away one last ditch effort to win the game.

Auburn turned the ball over on downs. That last great throw was on 4th down, and the receiver was caught about 2 yards shy of fresh downs. An anticlimactic end to a great game. :\

UGA vs ASU

UGA could have / should have hung two more touchdowns on the sun devils. This needed to be a shaming of epic proportions, and it just ended up being a regular shaming. After the Dawgs first sack of Carpenter, the offense had nothing to say, which was pleasing to me. The strength of the SEC is always going to be in the D line. You saw the same thing in the LSU game. Penalties were brutal. I am inclined to side with the shitty PAC 10 crew who called the game, aside from one call-- that wasn't tripping. Its not tripping when you extend your leg, and nobody trips, and the person closest to your leg was your team mate. It was also pleasing to see Tempe's heat pose no problems whatsoever. Any team that plays in the South is conditioned to work under climates that put the desert to shame. Its one thing to suffer on a hot dry field, and then go back to a mister fan while you hydrate, it is entirely another to play in air so hot and thick that your sweat wont evaporate to cool your skin. I would happily invite more teams to come play day games down here and see how it is. UGA plays BAMA next week, and make no mistake about it... its the game of the week-- not Penn State paying Illinois (rofl).

UF vs. UT

Who didn't see this coming? 4 hours of lavish praise heaped on Tebow (who spends his off seasons circumcising babies??! Poor Tennessee/Phil Fulmer! I don't know what the way out is for his program. Maybe just maturation. As for the Gators-- idk, they just make people play crappy football, make bad choices. I don't know exactly what it is, but they always seem beatable, but they very rarely get beat. I expect the Gators to demolish Ole Miss next week, and the Vols to beat Auburn.

LSU vs. Auburn
Jim said last night (after they took the lead) that LSU was overrated. I can only imagine that he's just venting some of that buckeye spirit that has stayed pent up since he heard the jeers last January. Then you play a top ten team close-- and when nobody expects you, the former NC, to be competitive because of all of your disciplinary and injury problems-- you are at worst favorably rated, and maybe even underrated. Its nice to see that the other other QB for LSU is competent enough to step in when Harvard guy got his bell ringed. Auburn-- I respect and fear you-- but you are looking at a future where you are the third best team in your division. Take it from a dawgs fan, this is not a happy place to be.

^^^ That sweep TD Moreno made against SC last week wasnt as flashy but was an even a more phenomenal play than that

As always the LSU - AU never disappoints....Great game!

Both QB's played well....especially LSU's after that putrid pick 6 in the first half. Charles Scott of LSU looks to be the second coming of Joesph Addai and the SEC's #2 back behind Moreno.

Lots of great games coming up t determine the SEC pecking order....All the top 10 SEC teams play each other in the next coming weeks...Next week UGA - Bama and the following week LSU - Florida....It never lacks excitement in the SEC

i'm not so much of a fan that i can swap stats with you guys the way you do with each other....i like my team (auburn) and get pumped up for the season to start, can drop a few names here and there, and remember most of what went down with rival teams the season before. but nothing too detailed..

so to my surprise, i find out not only is auburn QB todd a JUCO transfer, he's got a fucking shoulder injury that put him out of conditioning for 5 fucking months prior to preseason! 5 months of doing nothing and to quote the announcers, "he's still not 100%..."! WTF?!? this is the best fucking starting QB auburn could come up with - an out of shape injured JUCO transfer??

i'm going to be critical of this guy all season and next. i mean, i'd almost rather have brandon cox back, and that's saying a lot.

congrats to LSU...it was a pretty good game but auburn just fucked it up for themselves royally.

according to mark richt, BAMA is getting the same blackout treatment that your tigers got last year. ;)

well, i suppose what's good for the goose.....or something. ;)

nonetheless this will be one of my favorite games of the weekend!

Chase Daniels looks like the most Heisman worthy candidate so far this year. Moreno is a close second, while Beanie Wells is pretty baller for NCAA 09 on my Playstation 3.

too early to tell, IMO. Daniels is going to be pretty much untested throughout the season. With the numbers he puts up, it might not make a difference. Its already obvious that the Heisman isn't about actual performance, its about your team (see: Tebow vs. McFadden)

Of course I want to see UGA produce another winner, but I'm not holding out any hope, especially this early in the season.

UGA VS BAMA is going to be one helluva slugfest. I can't wait.

how much of the overall efficiency of your team depends on your stellar run game? a lot. imagine UGA without Moreno. I predict that in the final weeks of the NCAA season OSU is going to look like OSU with Beanie Wells confirmed to start against Minnesota this weekend. and because it's the Big Ten schedule, where Tressel usually doesn't get out-coached.

if Ohio State can beat Wisconsin at Camp-Randall Stadium (a damn tough place to play) lock them into the Rose Bowl.

IDK, actually. Stafford has an arm like a cannon, poise in the pocket, and his passing has gone from wild to adequate over the past 13 games.

BAMA, on the other hand, has a secondary coached personally by Sabin, and 50 memorized blitz packages. The Achilles heel for the dawgs will continue to be the inexperience and relative age of the O line. The only may to mitigate that weakness will be by keeping a balanced offense, and by keeping calm once you get sacked (which will happen). I predict a game where field position and defense dominate. Another low scoring SEC affair. That said, I do also believe UGA will win, and by more than a score. The talent is there, it just needs to be implemented properly.

Richt did his teleconference yesterday, and he downplayed A.J. Green's numbers in the ASU game, saying we shouldn't expect so much from him in the future. Personally, I think that's a smoke screen, and we're going to see lots of deep ball.

I swear... I cannot account for this obsession with you guys and the rose bowl. ;) Who will you be playing there? ASU, Arizona? Win the rest of your games, and hope you go somewhere better. Wisconsin on the road will be the only chance OSU has to make a statement for the rest of the year (barring a bowl appearance), so for your sake, I hope they have something to say. I haven't had a chance to see Wisconsin play yet this year, so I don;t really know. I would say that they "don't just hand out top-ten rankings" but then... OSU, Clemson, Texas Tech, WV, you know. ;)

the Rose Bowl is sort of the consolation prize for not being good enough to get to the National Title, but still being good enough, for OSU fans. it had more backing in the past, where it was either OSU or Michigan and was decided in the last game of the season.

I would expect to play Oregon in the Rose Bowl, as USC should most likely make it to the National Title where they will most likely play the SEC Conference Champ. I stand by my comments that the Pac-10 is fairly weak conference, sans the University of Spoiled Children of course.

Wisconsin is the same old Wisco. they have a very capable back in PJ Hill and a solid defense. look for OSU to make statements with Beanie Wells. he single-handedly tore up Wisco last year with two touchdown runs that were well over 50 yards. I wouldn't say that the aforementioned game is going to be the only game where the Buckeyeys can "make a statement." OSU could very well lose to Penn State or Illinois. and you never do know about the Michigan game... that truly is the best rivalry in sports and anything has happened and anything can happen with games of that much emotional investment.

Stafford is just a little bit better than Todd Boeckman, IMO ;)
