the official 2008-09 NCAA football thread!

funny, considering how rivals pegs the two of them (stafford was the #2 highschool qb in the country, Boeckman was like 44 in the midwest). UGA plays a different kind of offense from OSU, so I don't expect you to make a favorable comparison. I think a stafford O would manage better than 3 points in a game with USC though. ;)

OSU could very well lose to Penn State or Illinois. and you never do know about the Michigan game...
I was going to be polite about the buckeyes making that kind of statement. ;)

that truly is the best rivalry in sports

Yes, and baseball is still our national pastime 8(

I've been holding back, and it isn't buckeye-bashing, but for OSU to make the Flower Bowl, they'll need to get past Penn St in addition to WISC....something I'm not confident they can do, regardless of where the game is played. Beating ILL? Possible, provided the OSU ego isn't too battered from their other losses (especially if they DO lose to WISC and-or PSU).

Right about now...I'm too tired to even spit some SEC bias out of my mouth about rankings or whatever...

I do like the recent murmering (blog blathering) on the chances of USC falling over the course of the season to #2 or #3 if a Big12 and SEC team manage to make it thru the season undefeated. Everyone expects USC to do the same, but UGA fell with wins over weaker teams....how is that going to treat USC with the PAC-10 schedule ahead of them :\ Honestly, I'd giggle myself a bit if USC went undefeated and was left out of the NC. I'd have no qualms of an undefeated SEC champ going to #1 ahead of them. Despite how great they looked against OSU....it was OSU, and an undefeated SEC champ would have proven more by then. I can't say if a Big12 undefeated team would have proven more, or at least enough to move ahead of USC...but I'd be willing to consider it. I know everyone is kicking OSU for looking like shit in that game, but the win over UVA isn't going to help USC's SOS much either the way things are shaking out. Does anyone really think having ND on their schedule will help much? It'll probably hurt them as well. ... Maybe they should have scheduled a MWC team to boost their SOS? ;)

Okay, one SEC-ism for a moment. I know rankings are fluid, and ill-defined to start the season. It's just funny (odd, not ha-ha) to watch how teams like ALA and UGA and LSU will be facing so many highly ranked teams in a row. I really feel for UGA heading into a 7 game stretch with 5 teams ranked 8, 21, 4, 5, and 15. Granted, we all knew they'd cross paths and there won't be that many of them so highly ranked at the end...so I'm thinking it's funny (odd, and a little ha-ha) how it's shaking out right now. I mean, USC will have seen ONE top 15 program this season, and that's if OSU can stay up there.

Oi, any bets on if Fulmer is kept more than this year or one more? Or where Skip Holtz will be headed next year? I'd lean for Skippy to be at Syracuse, simply because he'd have a better shot at a winning record year in and year out, better job security. Heh, Ty isn't doing so hot at his second gig, so I guess ND was right on that one....but I still don't see Weis living much longer in South Bend if he keeps this up for this season and next (I'd give him at least next season, perhaps one more, then pfffftttt outtathere!). Same for St. Bobby....unless he's got JoePa on the brain, he needs to head out to pasture, because he's not getting it done. I'm afraid that's why JoePa is still in - he's got Bobby on the brain, and while he's been unwilling to leave the team after a down year (can't do that to a new coach? what? Let him have a chance to do 'well' in his year following JoePa? That'd be a real nice thing to do....), I'm not so sure he'll go out on a winning year either so long as Bobby is still at it.

Did I say I was tired? I guess you guys got my blood going again! But it's only Wednesday...too early to start this weekend's predictions. I'll be back later ;)

PS - I'll be dreaming of a Rose Bowl with undefeated USC facing a OSU rematch :o Eat that 'grandaddy of them all' =D

On the fulmer bet.

I'd be willing to bet they'll give him another year, but the problem with him is he's not getting any production out of his team. They are SUPPOSED to be talented (way more than they're showing I'm not saying top 10 quality, but at least better than vandy) and it's like they dont' understand they're playing football or something. And I'm sure the Vol faithful are a bit aggitated because since the graduation of Manning they have kinda just went downhill steadily ever since.

If USC falls to an unraked Oregon St. does that belittle the thrashing that they threw on a not so hot OSU? And if it does, what does that say about the two?

this is what makes it great. a lot of people thought that sc was the best team in the country last year and the got nicked by stanford. its all about how two teams match up on a given day and who's feeling it the most. oregon state is playing absolutely out of their ass. that being said, i still think usc is gonna pull this one out.

ps: erin andrews is fuckin proper!

After watching the second half of this game, I don't see them pulling this game out, however it is still possible. WHAT SUCKS for USC is if they lose they really don't have anyone else in their confrence to re-establish themselves against. OSU would really have to breakout for the rest of the season. So if OSU doesn't do anything, it really overshadows any accomplishment USC will have.

For some reason I was still thinking it was a one possession game.

My bad.

But now they still have a shot.

but now it's over.

HOLY SHIT: BEAVERS DO WHAT BUCKEYES CAN'T

An amazing game! The Trojans look like NCAA players, and Oregon looks like a team of high school kids. And yet, they can;t be stopped for gains under 7 yards. When USC came out after half time, I was crestfallen. They do so well at retooling their game in the second half. **the beavers just recovered the last onside kick**

I'm amazed at how tenacious these freshmen are this year. Jacquizz Rodgers certainly made a name for himself, he went like 6 yards after first touch. WOW.

i find it amusing that osu lost to usc last week and another osu beat usc this week :)

I am nervous about Penn State and Wisco but OSU did beat them last year, and they have more or less the same team. thank god OSU plays PSU at the Shoe, or that game could get messy. Wisco is tough, but with Beanie Wells back he should shred their defense yet again. Illinois is going to be the test in my opinion, because it obvious the Buckeyes have trouble with a mobile QB.

you mean rush the football :\

great game, only saw the second half but they closed em out. well done beavs

exactly. my. point. yet again cravnbeets is the voice of reason. if that little runningback could tear apart the Trojan defense, imagine what Beanie Wells could have done. so much depended on him this year and it's horrible that he could not bring himself up to his a-game.

once again, the not so hot OSU was sans the obvious Heisman choice for the year - along with Tim Tebow. looking at clips of the game, it's obvious that USC slightly overlooked the Beavers. this year their appears to be no team playing near perfect football. college football is on the decline - rest in peace baby.
