i have nothing to say other than, go OU ;)

I was going to make a funny remark about you becoming a Sooners fan...then I was going to make one about even Ohio people can't spell OSU correctly (I suppose they should be "T"OSU?)....but eventually it dawns on me that you put things in green. Go ducks <3

= = = = = = = = =

Regarding OSU dropping and UF not....UF was favored by 21.5 and won by 23 having never trailed - they met expectations. OSU? I don't know the point spread, but they trailed into the 3rd or 4th quarter, correct? And while depth allowed them to come on strong at the end....it was a piss poor showing, certainly not deserving of a top 3 team. I'm with the others in hoping they were just looking ahead and they can do something decent against USC, but inside I'm expecting them to get shelled on the road in California. *IF* they have a healthy Beanie Wells, maybe they can hang respectable, but I don't think he'll be all that healthy nor will the score be all that respectable. Florida? I don't think they were looking ahead to TN, nor 'nervous' at all about the UM game....I think we showed we just.aren't.that.good. How many plays were runs up the middle (Tebow, or anyone else) that got somewhere between -3 and +3 yards? That 4th quarter showing of actually having an offense? That was the play calling figuring out that 45 minutes of up the middle runs ain't getting it done. For a top 5 team, you a) ought to learn that earlier in the game, and b) know your team and your opponent well enough not to have that IN your game plan 8)

ECU? UGA? Crow isn't on here much, but since he attended both, I'm imagining he's pretty happy these days. I didn't get to watch any football this weekend (other than the UF-UM) due to obligations, but I'm happy for him, and both those teams. I'd love to see UF-UGA be a top 2 or top 3 matchup, but I doubt it'll happen. And, as much as I hate Lou Holtz, I'll give respect to Skip for getting the pirates on the map. PS, Crow, I wore my jean shorts all weekend just to represent muh gators <3

Rankings in general...probably ought to wait, but the media (and masses like us) need to chatter on with something to bonk eachother with. For example, I've been giggling inside that the SEC has 2 top 5 teams, 4 top 10, and 5 of the top 15....that's a third of the top 15 from ONE CONFERENCE......then I slap myself (because I know you'd do it for me if you could) and remember this is paper, ink, words in the wind. This is nothing. Rankings are nothing at this point of the year. While it remains an ugly beauty pageant, it's what we got, and it ain't worth much for another couple of weeks.

Looking ahead, I can't tell you any other matchups this coming weekend besides UF-TN and OSU-USC (oh, and UGA-USCar since you guys mentioned it)....I need to find more to watch, and the time to watch them.

You need to ensure your wireless laptop is working, so you can mod whilst 'enjoying yourself' since the rest of us will be unplugged and learning what 'daylight' is. :|

Oi, and on the Washington 'unsportsmanlike' call...I'm with the ref. By definition, part C of the rules states 'throwing the ball in the air', and it wasn't just a 'dump over his shoulder' since he indeed threw it way the fuck up in the air.

Was he taunting or being abusive? Not in my opinion. Was he excited and expressing some joy? Yes, IMO. Excessive celebration, no. Breaking the rules, yes. Sad, but I do agree with the call.

and on the "the officials should not decide the result of the game" drum that was beat deafeningly on ESPN--- they didn't BYU special teams blocked the PAT.

I'm indifferent to rules against celebration, but you can't break the letter of a rule, and expect to receive leniency because you're in the middle of a come from behind win. Nobody on the Washington squad will be chucking balls into the air after touchdowns this season, that's for sure.

I think I'm the only person sacrificing entire saturdays to college football. You people need to either invite me out, or learn how to hang with me on the couch. ;)

I wish I could man. my Saturday usually consists of going to the OSU game at noon, then going home and trying to sleep off my buzz before I have to go in and tend bar all night. looks like you are going to have to be happy just swapping text messages all night, Rock Hudson.

however, I get this Saturday off. it is my birthday and I am having a birthday party during the game and then afterwords my hipster trash rock n roll band will be doing club drugs and playing in my basement. the party will be a lot better if OSU wins.

I figure that the USC/OSU game is either going to be a blowout with USC winning or a close game with OSU winning. Beanie DID NOT practice yesterday so I am not very optimistic. even if he plays, will he be near 100 percent?

really? a rule is a rule is a rule eh? the officials shouldnt apply judgement or interpretation to the situation? i obviously disagree:)

I just read this somewhere on ESPN... It made me giggle.

• Myth: Ohio State can't win the big one (4).

Fact is, Ohio State can't win the big one against an SEC opponent. It's done just fine against all other ranked opponents in recent years. The Buckeyes are 11-2 in their last 13 games against ranked teams, with nine of those victories coming by double digits.

it's no secret that Ohio State can't beat the top team in the SEC. can they destroy the Tennessees, Kentuckys, Georgias, etc? for the most part. but you are smoking crack if you think that they can't win the big games (against non-SEC champs). Tressel has only lost one bowl game to a non-SEC team and that was during his first year.

Georgia is considered the top power in the SEC right now. Also if you note the quote, it gives them their fair credit with their ranked game wins.

On another note Tennessee is just... well I dunno what happened to them, they've been riding the mediocrity train since manning went to the colts. But Kentucky is a different matter, they're usually everyone's whipping post, and I'm not saying that OSU wouldn't win, but it most definitely would be a game. If kentucky had any kind of qb this year...

Anywho... Alabama will be our first test this year, that's when we get to see what kinda claws the cats have this year. Right now unless something changes with Florida I'm calling for a UK upset of the gators and I'll go ahead and call one the vols. too.

(Potentially UK could beat three top ranked teams this year)

dude the similarities between your team and the class of the sec begins and ends with their shared conference. didnt we sort this out last year? you're a basketball school; deal with it.

^ I think you are having a hard time dealing with the facts as they stand as of the now.

i dont know why im even responding to you, but here we are. i pride myself on being a reasonable fan. i try to look @ the big picture and not homer up as so many of my brethren tend to do. i dont care for your suggestion that kentucky is an elite football program in any way shape or form.

i am well aware that kentucky beat lsu (in probably the most exciting regular season game i watched all season for that matter). i am also aware that ohio state got embarassed by lsu.

i have owned this.

however, what you have failed to own is the fact that i told you that kentucky would lose no fewer than 4 games last season actually it was 3, my bad when you were running your mouth about them being national title contenders.... and they did just that, and then some. im pretty sure @ least 3 teams in the big ten could go 3-5 in the sec. shut it the fuck up.

I never claimed they were national title contenders.

Find a post where I made such claim.

But what I recognize is you clearly don't understand what I'm saying. Once again, and I'll treat you like I treat a U of L fan (I'm accustomed to people saying... it's just a basketball school, and normally every uk fan would tend to agree) from last year before the big rivalry game was played.

Here you go, this is what should have them in the top 25.

The Cats, rank third in the nation in pass efficiency defense (four interceptions, no touchdowns, 29-for-67, 62.58 rating), 10th in total defense (184.5 yards) and third in scoring defense.

They held U of L (who I admit looks like shit) to 2 points. U of L's next game they scored 51. I don't care what you say, you don't hold an offense that can put up 51 points to 2. That is a High powered Defense that I'd put up against any top ten team you want to put on the table, I'm not saying we'd win them all, but I bet you we'd win some of them.

Edit: On a further note, we have two more games to get our offense in some kind of shape that isn't garbage. Oct. 4th at Alabama I doubt we'll be able to rely solely upon our defense to get points on the board.

i'll retract my 'just a basketball school' remark. that would imply that they have had some modicum of success on the hardwood in recent years. i'll say that uk is a fine institution located in the second least crappy city in kentucky. happy?

Fixed that for ya ;)

Please stop quoting statistical strength when no real games have been played yet. You may as well be claiming your basketball team #1 since they haven't lost a game yet :\

OSU has been good in 'big games' outside of top SEC matchups, and that's the only thing I'm holding out there as a chance for Tressel to win this weekend....but that's a real slim chance. I'm thinking this team doesn't have the psyche to do what's needed against USC. The upper classmen have seen their 'strength' falsley puffed up from beating a Michigan team that has proven to be less than stellar (second in the Big11 does not make you a juggernaut) and nuetered against an underdog UF 2 yrs ago...okay that NC game was maybe eating the hype and underestimating your opponent. So last year was another "strong" season that got them to a 'big game' against LSU where they were 'prepared, and determined not to make the same mistake again'....and they didn't, but they also didn't perform. A game preceeded with a loss to generally underappreciated ILL :\ Really, the few serious challenges they've had, they've not gotten it done in recent years, so whle Tressel knows how to get it done, I don't think the kids on the team today know how or have confidence that they can...especially if they are squeaking out wins in their preseason games and questioning their own star player.

Either OSU wins and it galvanizes the players for another year or two...or they get shelled (as I expect) and they'll implode, losing 1-2 more games this season and raising questions in buckeyeland.

I've got a lot of faith in Tressel, but not in this team....not right now.

USC? At home? Used to being ranked in the top 3? Against a team that is shaken? They might underestimate OSU.....but not by much, and they'll adjust within the first or second quarter if that's the case and pull out a strong win to firmly plant themselves atop the rankings for the duration of the season. That's my opinion.
