how many days of rain must there be before fresh spores begin to fruit? i'm sure it doesn't happen after a single decent rain shower. over the past 2 weeks i've been noticing lots and lots of mushrooms growing everywhere. none that are active.:X

I can't exactly say...

From 6 years of hunting in SW Vic they usually come up 2-4 days after a few days rain or a day of very heavy rain. The little pins then take a few days to mature (i like medium sized shrooms that haven't had much sunlight or any chance to dry out as they have always done it for me ;) )

The mercury has to plunge to freezing (frosty mornings) before any psilocybes will fruit (in my area) but i have seen the same species fruit at temps below 6 degree's in Melbourne.

They are the last species to pop up around here and this may be the same in most places. I usually find Amnita's roughly a week before the subs which may also help.

Non-actives appear in their thousands after the first signs of autumn (cooler temps and rain) and tease alot of people without much knowledge/experiance with psilocybes into hunting weeks or even months ahead. Many of you may know what i'm talking about. Years ago I spent most of April hiking for k's every day without a single active hahaha

My best advice for any amature is to wait for a few days decent rain and then a nice frosty morning (even wait a few days after the frost to be sure). These are the best indicators that the subs will be up or starting to pin IMO (it's also wise to have an experianced user with you at all times untill you are fullyconfident at I.D's)

They will almost certainly be up in melb every year by mid May (they were up on the penninsula near Portsea at the start of April this year when we had a cold wet week) and the west of the state will fruit by mid June.

been bloody cold up in sydney last couple of days, no rain though... not getting my hopes up

what if no Amanita's have grown yet? can actives still grow because apparently, tomorrow and Thursday are going to be good days for actives. Is it just my area maybe? Can't see how that would be the case had heaps of rain and the temp is usually colder than the city forecast, seeing as it the hills.

^ Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure you've missed the season? My mates tend to go picking there around late summer...

Of course they can...

Amnita's are plentiful in my area so they are a good sign for me.

When we went hunting near Portsea the other week the only place we found subs was after spotting amnitas by the side of the road and walking into the bush in that area.

Most of the patches i've come across around melb don't seem to produce amnita's but if you do see them in your travels then it may be worth further investigation in that area.

You can't go past a good frost IMO

I'm getting reports of patches starting to pin in some eastern/south eastern suburbs and also hearing reports of no subs as of yet from very experianced hunters.

You will find them this weekend if you put in the time and effort but if you're not so keen on returning empty handed just wait a couple of weeks and all the city parks will be full of subs...

I expected more rain this week. Im not going to bother this weekend, i've noticed alot of areas have dried up incredibly quickly, the ground really does suck up all the moisture after no rain for a while.

Come on rain....

Ok thanks for that, well there are a few Amnita's that pop up around here but none as of yet, but there are other in-actives that i have found today when i went out for a walk, not to many but hoping to find some actives soon, i think im just looking in the wrong places but i dunno, i'm pretty far east of melb so i'd thought the terrain would be better for actives to grow but maybe i'm wrong? well i'll have to go out again pretty soon hopefully, when ever i get the chance, need to find some good spots.

you say cities and parks, how about bush kind of area? places where people wouldnt come in contact with, pretty dense aswell i guess but yeah is the bush still as good as the places you mentioned?

i tried some mushies out about 2.5 months ago a few days after rain and spewed out my mouth and arse at the same time 8o ,my guts got cramps and shit my self 3 or 4 times:! ,i later went on to erowid.com and did some research ;) and the ones i ate were the wrong ones ,so i give up on mushies.

^You're lucky you're not dead mate. DO THOROUGH RESEARCH BEFORE EATING WILD MUSHROOMS. Even after you've done extensive reading/studying of photos, confirm your finds on http://www.shroomery.org. You're lucky you were just violently ill man.

Jesus. Very stupid act there. Once again, count your lucky stars and do some fucking research before eating any mushroom you even suspect may be active, or even ones that you are CERTAIN of. Jessssus.

Let that be a valuable lesson to you mate. And once again, thank whatever (if any) spirits/deities you believe in that you are not dead.

Yep, very fuckin lucky indeed.
Might be worth getting your liver checked out though. Those random shrooms could have done some lasting damage if they were dodgy.

yeh i do things stupidly, try to get more bang for my buck,i learnt my lesson,i tend to over indulge in things to get messed up (ripped of my tits ,dont we all)i thought they might be something like datura ,that used to mess me up big time, all is well.

that was many years ago ,17 years ago to be exact im no not so messed up now as i used to be.but back in the day yeah i was one fucked up puppy,my mind is at ease.:)

There's a difference between getting more "bang for your buck" and chronic liver failure and death. Sounds like you're a future contender for a Darwin Award.

All jokes aside, be careful man. It's irresponsible users like you who give the majority of us a bad rep.

No. The general public sees a headline like "Man killed after ingesting suspected Magic Mushrooms" or "Man Wanders Naked Onto Freeway After Drinking Datura Tea-Deliriant Danger!" and make assumptions about people who use drugs, disregarding those who do research and make informed, safe choices about what they are ingesting. Anyway this is getting off topic so I'm going to drop it.

Bring on the mushies! Rain dancing time ya'll.

:) good luck on your rain dancing ,happy times to all:)everyones got an opinion, thats what makes the world go round.
