Posts like that bring down the forum, and make newbies want to do things against the vets.

i wrote that tongue in cheek, and if you weren't so wet around the ears, you would know this.

You fast becoming too big for your britches if you think you can take down the vets of this board 8)

Well I apologise.

I've just already been through these things on another forum. The vets were all elitists. Even though I was a vet, I found the newbies being more fun.

I don't think I can take down the vets of this board, nor do I want to. I like most of the vets, I think they are pretty cool.

One thing I do hate though, is the whole vet/newbie thing.
 
stop beating up on Zandesh. There are plenty of others on this board who have made the same mistake. Learn and move on. And being a 'vet' doens't make you any smarter.
 
this isn't a dicksizing competition though, it's about not making comments such as "oh WOW, DAMN you're so hot" to all the girls in the picture thread or writing completely off-topic remarks in threads other than off-topic.

I know I'm guilty of making a few random comments here and there, but I honestly believe that The Lounge isn't really where most Australians want to talk.
 
Its very hard not to make personal comments to this thread but for the most part Its a good example of what this thread is about (if that makes sense)
 
I really wish everyone would get over the whole vet/noob thing too.

Besides KB, I'm more of a vet than you, so STFU n00b :P

Personally, I think Aus Social hasn't changed a bit in the 3 years I've been around. Only the names have changed.

It's always been idle banter and in-jokes if you ask me. With the odd interesting thread thrown in for good measure.

There really isn't a lot the mods can do to change this.

Now, everyone note that I said *personally*

I don't expect people to agree with me.

i guess I'm probably still a newbie by a lot of people's standards, but I thought i'd add my opinion to this debate.

I have been frustrated as much as the next person by what i perceive as the pointless thread whoring by the influx of new members lately [particularly late night and pix thread]. it is fucking annoying to watch one line replies back and forth between people - it doesn't stimulate discussion nor even interest as there is not even any humour. It also makes my eye twitch ;)

Yes I found/find Zandesh annoying. Yes I think he's improved. Yes I still think he could improve A LOT MORE. Yes I know i'm not the posting goddess and my opinion doesn't speak for everyone, and more importantly that other people have found my posts/posting style annoying.

What I'm saying is that Zandesh is by no means the only offender/ culprit - but he seems to be copping the brunt of abuse. I mean, KS and KB [for example] are two of the biggest post-whores in Aust social ;) and I'll be damned if everything they post is interesting [even though a lot of it is :)] - but they post in a style which is interesting to others.

With the n00b thread whoring et al - zandesh wasn't just writing to himself...."people" who don't seem to be listed in this thread as "annoying" or "boring" were responding and provoking and blah blah it's a vicious cycle - they should be picked on too!!!!!!! :p

i do think that all kinds of threads have their place in aust social. If you don't like it don't open it - but i know that for some of us at work word association can be a saviour as much as a thread about some philisophical discussion.

it's your forum so it's up to you to make the threads/participate in the threads you want to read or you enjoy.

Thats the thing, everyone is different. Just because someone thinks a post is crap, does not mean every one else does. Great words Schizo%)
 
aus social appears to just be a battle of the "post whores," if you ask me.....but i personally find most of the discussion to be very entertaining, but an excellent waste of my time.....back to aus DD for me.
 
Can i just ask everyone not to single out any specific posters.

I didnt start this thread with any particular posters in mind but moreso the overall way that things have been going.

If it was just one or two posters then that is easily solved as has been pointed out.

I would also like to say that I am impressed with the quality of most of the posts in here and its great to see so many posters whom I respect coming in to have there say.

One thing that does seem to have everyone in agreement is the stuff that could well be taken to PM or restricted to the off topic thread and maybe we have just empowered our Mods to be a little more confident in there editing work............

To those that feel that a thread like this can bring down a forum or is not going to serve any purpose.........well i disagree.........

It has already served a purpose and im sure that everyone myself included have learnt from the comments posted here.

As for the idea of bringing down a forum...........the quality of poster here is unlike any other forum or board and so I can assure you that will never happen.

Just accept the fact that this board is not tailor made to your liking, and that you're getting old and jaded - you've already been here all of 2 years - that should be enough for anyone not masochistic.

Anna - you don't need to explain to anyone except the admins your reasons for closing threads, deleting posts, whatever.
This place needs regular culling of stupid users.
 
I hate the 'if you don't like it don't open it' comments. The truth is there are plenty of thread ideas which I think are good and could provide interesting discussion but when I open them I'm faced with 6 pages of replies written by 3 bluelighters and I can't be fucked adding my 2 cents.

There's a difference between being annoyed about the quality of the threads and being annoyed by the quality of the posts.

The last few days/ last week have been pretty boring threads but I don't think that's the major problem at the moment. The biggest problem is the high proportion of idiots who are driving away the more interesting, controlled posters. I'm sure the gushing one line posters are lovely people in real life but I just can't see how they would think anyone else would think their dribble is interesting.

Zandesh: You only think threads like this destroy forums because you're being attacked.

I found Mary Poppins's post to be really insightful and clear. And I found it mind numbing that she would consider herself a newbie. I'm a newbie -- I don't even know anyone -- to me this is a completely 'anonymous' place where I can be a drug user and not be afraid of judgment, what-have-you, have a little fun (Aus Social) and get some good Drug advice (Aus DD)

Please, this IS a public forum. And while I agree that some posts are absolutely out of this world horrifyingly benign (to me), others probably find me a pain in the fucking butt. I accept that --

What I find most annoyingly telling about this thread is the assumption by some people in it that a public forum should suit their personal social needs and desires ALL the time.

And 'the Lounge?' Please. Some of us moved to Australia to escape Americans.
