One of us is getting very very boring.

I agree that aus social needs a bit more spark to it. Generally speaking, I like to make well thought out posts - I find it hard to do so in aus social due to the quality of the topics and replies, no-one really gets into it. I'm the type of person who really ownly speaks out if I've got something worthwhile to say (sure, I can shit talk too but I'd just go to the lounge as they've got more interesting topics to shit talk about). I find that I'll mainly post in SLR because an in-depth post is appreciated there...

I think that half the talk in Aus social is between friends, hardly on topic. Once this happens - if you make a post, it just gets clouded in amongst the shit talk.

Sure, I do feel that some shit-talking threads are valuable in Aus social such as 'the late night thread' but it would be nice if there was a few more informative/ interesting threads as well. Maybe it's hard because this forum has sub-forums for various topics so people will post all things of interest in a forum that's going to obtain the most worthwhile responses? << Just a thought!

If everyone who banters mindlessly here went and bantered mindlessly in The Lounge, it would become far less of an American Social, and you could interact with these people that you could potentially meet over there instead. Then this forum could regain its capacity for proper discussion, conversation and debate. Please!

I try and split my banter 50/50 between lounge and Aus social, i think we need to remember this should be a fun place to come too. What some people find amusing and entertaining to others is just mindless drivel, whereas others can't be bothered with this and prefer more serious discussion of topics. There would be an argument that this should be done in other forums such as SO, SLR . If this was the case and the aussie loungers left, and then the serious aussies left, there would be no one left to post here at all.

I like to play around with my aussie BL counterparts as much as anyone else, and i also recognise times for serious discusion and hope i contribute equally to both.

I would rather my mindless inane banter with people that are in my hemisphere, in my state and are in with our culture.
Didn't you read the post above you?

We have the word association thread to alleviate boredom and the off-topic thread to contain chit-chat, in-jokes and banter. Why can't the dribble be kept there? Ultimately, Bluelight isn't a democracy - it has rules and purpose, and membership is a privelege, not a right. Have just a teeny bit of respect?
You can babble shit, just keep it to the appropriate threads. Or better yet, don't post shit in the first place. What is the point? To impress your friends? To raise your post count? On that note, I find it very hard to believe that Zandesh has been registed for a little over a month and has already exceeded my post count, and i have been posting for nearly 3 and a half years.

Then again, I look back to the threads of years ago, like the famous "Can you fax acid" thread. That is a classic. I wonder how far that would have gone in todays Aus Social. Could it be that this place hasn't changed, but we are all getting a little jaded? Or is it just the one or two people are posting crap and wasting everybody's time and bandwith?

I think that Aus Social needed this thread, it's one of the best threads I have read in ages. :)

if you check out North American Social all it is, is a Roll-Call forum, there is absolutely no social chat in there because it all goes to The Lounge.

^^^ I donn't think it's a jaded thing. i think Smiley was right on the money about the change in demographic.

There's also the issue with many topics already having been done before. Sometimes its not worth writing stuff as it's all been said years before. *shrug* Or a new topic is started and rolled into oone form years before.. meanign new discussion is harder as it's kinda been covered already?

This thread has been good

Awesome work to Anna! 1234 and Raz for your efforts. You're having a difficult time atm and you're handling it way better than i would have (ie my solution would involve a bell tower and a gun.. and i'm even mostly a pacifist!! :) )

Just for the record, I was not being sarcastic.

And KB STFU.

you see? both of those comments couldve been directed via PM.

but oh no! had you of done that, you wouldve missed out on that extra post! Postcount is everything!

8(

And i think its a little unfair to call The Lounge "mindless" ... i agree with the sentiment that theres a lot of shit in there; but theres a certain cladestine wit underlying in there if you look for it ;):D

except for when Keystroke is in there. then its a mass flamewar ;)

that being said - ive spent my time in the trenches with KS in the lounge...;) fun times, fun times

On the few occasions i have been in US social that is what i found, its all roll calls. Very strange.

Umm yeah, doesn't change the fact that i like to interact with people from my own country a bit more than a lounge which i feel is the American social of BL

Thats why you take it into the appropriate threads in Aus Social, such as the off-topic thread. Not all of them.

I find that threads like this bring down a forum. It brought down another forum I was on.

Stop complaining about how the forum is at the moment, and do something about it.

If you don't like the threads, make a thread you'd find entertaining. Don't expect others to do it for you.

Forums evolve, get new members and etc.

We can discuss this matter all we want, but if action isn't taken, there will be no change.

Another thing, someone else said this but I'll say it again. People enjoy different things, you can't expect that what you find entertaining, others find it just as entertaining.

If you want the forum to be more fun and entertaining for you, then you make it that way.

I see what you are saying Zandesh. Thats the whole reason for this thread. To try and get people to stop shit talking and to come up with some decent conversations.

But you are right, everybody needs to help.

Precisely. dont take them for granted. i'll be the first to say i dont always agree with their rulings, but you cant make everyone happy. all you can do is try to make things better by becoming a better contributer to a forum...

Making threads like this dont *help* IMHO.

and MazDan - i didnt mean offense :)

Well Zandesh, threads like this actually do help the forum as it might help show people that are bringing down the forum that maybe they should think before posting.

The problem with interesting threads is that the mindless banter and the 'oh my god i am so insecure validate me' posts tend to take over even interesting threads. For example - the Jihad thread the other day - when 1234 shut it down he basically sad 'i thought this thread had such potential' - it was destroyed by mindless shit.

Im sure there are many other examples.

I admit, I like the useless posts and stuff...but that's just what I find amusing.

The only way to come up with decent conversations is for people to make threads about some kind of topic that people have some kind of opinion about. I haven't really seen any threads like this in aus social.

I think you are overstating the destruction of values in Aus social by saying all the threads are prone to chit chat and mindlessness. This is not something i am prepared to get into an argument with anyone about, what happened to the good ol days of PLURiness;)

Just because you don't like a thread, others might.

If you want the people who are "bringing down the forum" to change, why not pm them and tell them in a civilised manner and give some reasoning behind it?

sonicnature pm'ed me like that, and I would like to think you guys have seen some changes in me :p

The example with the jihad thread...I never really thought it had potential :\

I've seen threads like these a million times on other forums, they never came out with anything good. Take some action, make threads you find amusing, don't complain about the lack of amusing threads and stuff.

I hope that wasn't directed at me, as usually (or I think so) if I don't like a thread, I won't post in it.

I was under the impression the Jihad thread was started as a piss-take and no one took it seriously.

Zandesh, you need to learn to use
