Ok just checked my other patch and unfortunately alot of them were extremely dry. I think the season is going to stop for a bit til the temps go down more and more rain falls.

Lucky bastards! Still bugger all in the south west!
lets hope this year is free of amature kooks and the ones who leave rubbish and stuff may the get bustered and crash on the wet roads home.
last years season in south west was shit.

Why dont you lads go for a drive then. Shit, you can't expect to have them all growin right near you. One of my largest patches is a half an hour away.

I'm totally with you there tadfish, my old patch got trashed by amatures last year but i managed to innoculate a 5 by 5 metre patch on my own property that produced hundreds every few days from may through to late august, rain or no rain :)

There are definatley more and more hunters each year, i got sick of firing warning shots in the air last year. Stay off private property, there are plenty of discreet public places to find subs without pissing people off. Farmers don't think your hunting mushrooms when they see you, they think your stealing etc. so don't take the chance!

All hunters remember to cut your shrooms away from the roots and try to leave a few in the ground for regeneration. In the last few years i have seen major trails go from somewhere you can fill your boot all season to a place your lucky to find a few pins in mid winter. Respect nature and it will provide for years to come.

Why drive anywhere when even the worst seaon only means a few extra minutes walk? They may come up later in the south west than they do in melbourne but they are still as abundant as weeds for the duration of the season!!! Unless all you want to eat is subs or you want hundreds of kilos of them for summer you should have no trouble in the south west from late may...

Gotta love 'em

The Southwest is several hours' drive away from Perth ;)

thats the shit spread them i wish more people spread them and grow there own its not hard at least get some spores and have a go. if everyone tried we wouldn't have no where near as much of a problem. I mean i know people that got them going on farms in margs river.

Am I blind or do alot of these mushrooms look almost identical. They look like mushrooms that grew near trees in my primary school. Would be hella weird if they turned out to be less than kid friendly.

They are very similar to someone who doesn't know what they are lookin for. I mean, sometimes the only difference is a slight tinge of brown in the stem, compared to a white stem. This could be the difference between a Psilocybe and a deadly Galerina.

We used to get them on the oval and in the wood chipped garden beds of our high school. They were the predominant species by far but you have to be so carefull. A week after some unexperianced guys had picked with us i found them one afternoon minutes away from eating almost identical and deadly Galerina from the same patch. I can't warn people enough of the dangers, read all the info you can on psilocybes and go picking with experienced hunters only. Theres plenty of books, websites and modern day shamans to guide you and you'd look like a real idiot dying from the wrong shrooms. Not to mention the police crackdowns on the rest of us if it does happen!

Happy hunting

we need fuckin heaps of rain and umm cold misty weather. my prediction another dry raped season. comeone people if u want more shrooms for years to come and good trips u gota do the right thing buy the shroom gods and spread the spores and grow your own its not rocket sceince but when u grow and eat your own i imagine it will feel that much more rewarding as it is when u go on the mission and pick your own.
yeah WA is at least a month off

Just walking through a patch collects plenty of spores that you will spread anywhere you go in those same shoes/clothes. Alot of public places (can't name them but have a good think) and gardens are innoculated this way without the shroomer even knowing. I'm guilty of throwing them in every wood chipped garden bed i see and last year this payed off when i was able to eat caps from a garden on the way home from a crap night at the pub, added another 4 hours onto my walk home though hahaha

As i have said before, if you cant find heaps in mid season your in the wrong place or your patch has been raped. Most of my patches were too dry last year but a short walk into wetter bush revealed thousands.

it r-r-r-eally, r-r-really d-doesn't need to b-be any c-c-c-c-c-c-c-colder in melbourne.

but yes plz on the rain (just not while i'm walking)

im sceptical. Never the less will still hunt friday week.
