^^^ Were these Qld mushies picked recently?

Recent wet weather in Northern NSW/Southern QLD is still providing good pickings. Ground temperature is still warm enough.

I reckon a week from now some tassie person will post up some sub pics. I'm getting those shroom dreams again. Some big paches last night.

There's a few up here near Cradle Mountains, but also lots of non-psychoactive shrooms everywhere after a recent rain. I no longer take anything hallucinogenic, I think I have exhausted my capacity!

I remember these big fat cubies when I was living in Brisbane =D

There's a trip report somewhere in Trip reports. Ahhh... they were crazy years. :)

Be careful with these NSW's Blue Mountains shrooms, certain patches up there are pretty potent, a certain friend/former BL'er, found endless supply, way more than him and his group of mates needed, and he found eating them too much and too regularly, he had to admit himself to the location hospital and stayed there for 2 weeks, he was losing his mind and couldn't get "connected" with reality.

So be careful.... respect them and they will respect you back.

I'm sure you don't need reminding that some mushrooms can be dangerous. Please make sure you know what you're doing.

Toadstool surprise

FEARS ALLAYED: Allison Lonergan holds one of the brightly coloured toadstools that triggered her concerns.

WHEN Allison Lonergan was walking her dogs in a Lenah Valley reserve this week she discovered something she had never seen before.

In John Turnbull Park, a few metres from a birch tree, she found orange-red coloured toadstools covered with white spots.

Mrs Lonergan said she picked one and took it to work, and told a friend who is a botanist.

"Without seeing it, she (her friend) said it was definitely poisonous," Mrs Lonergan said yesterday.

"They are not a native and they grow under European trees."

Mrs Lonergan has not had time to get the species positively identified but she is concerned for children who use the park.

She has lived near the park for 13 years and regularly walks her dogs in the area with others.

An honorary research associate at the University of Tasmania, David Ratkowsky, said what Mrs Lonergan had found was amanita muscaria, which had the common name fly agaric.

He said the species was introduced to Australia and was toxic to a certain degree.

"I don't think it would be fatal," he said.

"I don't know of any fatalities."

Dr Ratkowsky said the toadstool was found in many places including the Pipeline Track, on Mt Wellington, which was used by walkers, joggers and cyclists.

It was often found around pinus radiata and other introduced tree species.

The second part of the name came from the species containing muscimol, which caused people to hallucinate or have an allergic reaction if they ate the toadstool.

"It has an odour which attracts flies," he said.

The Mercury

I noticed this reader comment on the page as well...

What a stupid non-event to make public. Having never tried magic mushies before, I read this atricle and thought that must be them. If I was a curious 15 year old I might have given it a go. Lucky for me I'm not, but when I was 15 I knew how to prepare the "shrooms" and was and still am of the belief that they can kill you or make you blind if you don't do it right. For new punters who might not know this we have a location and a photo here, plus confirmation that it will make you high but not kill you. It only takes a little push for curiosity to become experimentaion and I fear that this article will be the push for some people. I seriously hope that tomorrow there is an article about how dangerous "mushies" can be.

I live in portland near the vic/sa boarder and we dont really see anything till atleast mid may. I went for a drive to my fav spots this arvo with the hope that all this rain would fruit the subs and found no species of shrooms/fungi whatsoever. We normally get alot of amnita mid may and the subs fruit in late may if not june. This has been the case for the last 6 seasons and after reading about the patches in melb i am on my way tomorrow! No wonder my dreams of large patches have haunted me the past few nights! THIER HERE :)

damnit i've found about 8 different species and not one fucking active!!

Splatt, are you saying QLD cubensis are better than NSW/VIC subs? I definitely disagree, ive tried both on many occassions and subs are easily more potent.

It's not the potency. it's the levels of the tryptamines. Much more of a head fuck and introspection, than just a few pretty visuals and what not.

An experienced tripper used to collect subs from the Blue Mountains a lot and trip his ass off, he took many and many, but he said the trips from SE QLD Mushrooms were much more interesting. He thinks it's because of the higher baeocystin levels synergising with the psilocybin/psilocin levels. And just something about the climate here for certain plants.

its certainly true that different tryptamine ratios can have some pretty strongly differing effects...A rather interesting patch of goldtops last season (psilocybe aucklandii) whilst weight for weight not as potent as the subs caused many a person to nut out uncontrollably, (myself included several times....) aliens invading, imminent apocalypse shit going down for everybody...good times though...

Yeah righto, misinterpreted what ya said. Ive tried cubes many times and always found them to be more giggly, and more of a fun interesting high. Subs always seem too fuckin intense and really dark in a sense. They can still be heaps of fun, but at times you can be on them and just be like "woahh, im absolutely gone."

Just went for another hunt and found another very nice patch. Was in a park with woodchipped garden beds.

About 200 pins scattered around, left the majority of them. Picked 3 mature mushrooms and they have some of the thickest stems ive ever seen on a sub. Almost looks like P. Azurescens. Ill try and get pics up later.

So I'm going to assume this thread is the start of Mushroom season 2007.

Lets set some rules from the start.

No asking for ID's.

No asking for spots to search or places to hunt.

If this thread gets long like the last few have, make sure you completely read it and search the old ones so we don't have to keep repeating the same information over and over.

Lets try and keep it all together in one thread.

...and remember this is not social.

Welcome to mushroom season 07 =D

This is NOT the place to ask for mushroom ID's.

This is not the place to ask where or how to find mushrooms. There is much better sources of this information.

If you don't know what your doing this is not a good way to learn.

If this is ignored this thread will be closed and we will not allow any discussion on the topic.

It can't be stressed enough that if you don't know what your doing and you eat the wrong mushroom it can be fatal.

Today i drove and trecked throughout the green triangle and state forest areas in south west victoria and for the most part i found plenty of amnita's and other small mushrooms in thier thousands...

I stopped and checked one last place on my way home and in an old dissused sawpit full of moist woodchips, bracken ferns and shaded with trees i found one medium active and 2 pins after a more than thorough search!

I believe it was in a low valley and most probably colder than the other areas that they sprouted here and not elsewhere. A frosty night and we'll be rolling in them!

Does anybody know why the actives are always the last to appear up to a month after the first shrooms? I have plenty of literature on psilocybes but have never had this question answered...

Pics up soon...

Just wonderin' if anyones been up to the blue mountains yet? If so; any luck?
Was up in the mountains last weekend (going again this weekend to enjoy my pickings in their natural habitat! :D ). Some of my patches don't seem to have started up yet while others were practically exploding with subs! Way more shrooms around than I needed to/bothered to pick at the time.. came home with a very tasty bagfull!

Greetings from tassie :)

OK Guys - Everyone has had ample warning in regards to what is expected in this thread. Any further posts that disregard the thread guidelines, as set down by Fry-d-, will be officially warned.

Further to that, if blatant disregard is shown to the guidelines, the thread will simply be shut and no further discussion will be permitted about Mushroom Season 2007.

The ball is in your court.

Yesterdays finds, or some of anyway. Thought i'd outline the 3 fatties. Notice the difference in their stems compared to the others. They were from a different patch and i thought it was pretty cool how much they can vary from patch to patch.

Going for another hunt now, will update with pics.
