Anyone, in the UK, know of Hello Fresh? Stupidly expensive, stupidly delicious. Google them. BUT. If you want to join, tell me and I get £12 off my next order. First orders for you get £25 off yours. Orders are usually about £39 for 3 meals for two people. The good bit? You can cancel (before midnight Wednesdays) after your first order. Meaning you can get 3 delicious meals (you cook yourself) for about £14. All ingredients are fresh and come ready measured out. With the recipes obviously.

PM me if interested so I can get my £12 off.

I didn't sign up to that one SHM but another of its ilk. Great deal but when i actually found the nutritional details of the meals they were awful. Very high calories, loads of carbs, too much hidden sugar, not enough of your 9 a day like :| I cancelled.

You might not give a shite about anything like that but you do know your body is a temple to be adored in eadd and beyond <3

Just cook from scratch, keep it simple and menu plan.

I'll definitely check it out people. :)

Hey, I tell you what I have seen. 'Forbidden Planet' A 1956 Sci-Fi film! Watched it pretty recently, and I actually really liked it.

Anyone else seen it?

At risk of sounding both auld and nerdy... of course I've seen it. It's a stone cold classic of the sci-fi genre. Based on Shakespeare's The Tempest and starring a young Leslie Nielson and Robbie the Robot. Also featuring a genuinely groundbreaking electronic sountrack and visual effects. What's not to like?!? :D

Hell yeah, it's obvious I've been missing out. There is supposed to be a second film right!?

I'd recommend starting with the series with Kirk et all. Set the scene like. Consider it sci if of its time. Classic x

A bottle of coke, an orange flavoured candy lolly, several rowentrees fruit pastille lollies, a carrier basket full of orange callippo ices, two boxes of generic ice pops (love the lemon ones and raspberry pops) and a handful of the big long kind of ice pop, bubblegum flavor, which are my favourite. Now I'm down to just a couple of cola flavor long ice popes, and about 17-18 raspberry, orange, lemon and cola ones. Thankfully no strawberry flavours, because I hate synthetic strawberry flavours, all of them.

I like real strawberries alright, especially those tiny wee little alpine buggers. But I find artificial strawberry flavourings absolutely disgusting. The worst had to be, as a kid, paracetamol (or might have been ibuprofen, can't remember for sure) but pink, 'strawberry' flavoured shite that if I'm honest, I'd sooner sup on a cup of cold, fermenting cat sick, with a spoonful of lukewarm diarrhea poured in a swirl around the teacup full of feline stomach contents.

Also, eating a tin of assorted fruit flavour travel sweets, and some 'sula' and 'ricola' liquorice hard candies, which are lovely, the ricola ones are great, kind of a hard candy boiled sweet version of salmiak liquorice, as they are laced with ammonium chloride and have proper liquorice extract as well as the typical star anise.

Other than that, the massive extra script my GP gave me for two morphine formulations and one of oxy. What would typically last a bit more than a week, he gave me to last a day and a bit, and at that, when I'm due for my typical refills on monday, that he promised wouldn't be affected negatively, as I've hurt my foot badly, and had to have him come and do a housecall. Which, to my surprise was my assigned GP, a really good, decent guy with a good manner and who isn't tight fisted when its not justified. He actually came personally, on his weekday off work, so currently scarfing oxy and morphine, plus, since I can't actually MOVE at the moment from the sofa where I am stuck, had (although knowing not what for;)) the old man bring down some propionyl chloride from the lab. Just....because its a nice looking bottle and makes a great paperweight or ornament for the messy coffee table bedecked with all sorts of bits and pieces and meds that I need whilst immobilized.

But uggh, I may not be in a massive amount of pain now, the antibiotics are clearing it up. No idea how the hell I've sustained any break in the skin of my foot, bar a bruise from a dropped gas tank. Didn't actually penetrate the skin though, just thumped my foot whilst wearing shoes. And only a moderately sized tank rather than the kind of dirty great monster that needs wheels to move.

The worst is I can't get to the bog, even on crutches. I'm stuck using an empty 5l can of methanol to piss in. Maybe I should fill it back up and mail it back asking for a refund. 'Product NOT as described'=D

Not that I know of. Think it's been mooted for decades now but nobody (with any sense) would go near such an idea cos it would obviously fail miserably. I'm all for moving forward but sequalising and/or "rebooting" classics for the name tends to be far more miss than hit. Given the nature of the original it would be hard to see what could be achieved in an update - even less so a belated sequel - but would put nothing past Hollywood 8)

Check Vurtual's recommendations in the film thread (and previous incarnations thereof) for some excellent sci-fi flicks. Failing that I could probably point you to a few if such things are of interest to you. Given I've only recently read the book (although watched the film ages ago) I would currently recommend Tarkovsky's Solaris (wonderfully atmospheric film, no idea about the Clooney remake though). In similar vein, my personal favourite of his is Stalker - superlative in every way... but kinda hard to catergorise. Soviet psychedelic sci-fi probably comes closest off-hand though. Both nearer the 2001: A Space Odyssey end of the spectrum than Forbidden Planet... at least on the surface. Much closer than you may think if you scratch the surface though.

Well, not sure how I managed to screw up that post....

It had something along the lines of. 'The second ones and or sequels are never as good as the first. Same as most things in life...'

Then it had a Gene Wilder quote to do with 'So much to do, so little time'

*Sigh*

This amazing cheese with a 1990 Penfolds St Henri Shiraz. Heaven. Oh and some watercrackers for the cheese :)

Er, the whole point is you cook from scratch with organic ingredients delivered to your door? You obviously never looked up the website. It's far from a 'great deal'. It's just the food is excellent.

I don't know what you signed up to but this one gives choice, calorie content, info on 5/7 a day etc. The food is all organic. The only rubbish about it is the price and it is outrageously expensive for something you cook yourself. Which is why the cancel anytime is brilliant and the offers are the only time worth doing it. This is the second time we've joined and we'll cancel straightaway again.

No problem.

Edit. Just to show you, here's an example of one recipe I've ordered and the information they give. Orange glazed duck breast with kohlrabi and lentils.

https://ddw4dkk7s1lkt.cloudfront.ne...k-leg-with-kohl-32da8cf7.pdf?t=20160917195405

With full nutrition details. So no hidden sugars. Exact amounts given. Four of your five a day in one meal. Low carbs. It's just not worth £39 for 3 meals for two people. It's certainly worth £14.

Again, if anyone is persuaded, go via me coz I get £12 for recommending you. You get £25 off and cancel straightaway.

^that is a great idea and the recipe is really straight forward to follow.

I'm making - green lentils with roast squash and feta salad.

Will make some cumin chopped onions and mix that through with some diced tomatoes - will do a dressing of olive oil, lemon and pomegranate molasses.

Skipped the feta and it may not look that pretty but it was very nice.

^was that the best/only thing in the fridge ? (you can recrisp celery using cold/ice water)

Tuna, Kimchi, garlic, chili, onion, tomato, cucumbers - lettuce leaves to make wraps. (Raw garlic and chili so very spicy and pretty pungent)

I going to make some kimchi at the weekend, tried with making some cucumber stuff (Oi-sobagi) when I got back and that is nice so going to try with Nappa cabbage as I'm down to my last bag that I brought back with me from Korea.

It's lovely and you can order it online if you can't find a local store. The cucumber stuff I made the other week is pretty tasty and wasn't that difficult to make

Very basic lunch but the combinations were great and very low in calories / fat etc

I had another very simple but tasty lunch - Green lentils mixed with a can of tuna, chopped tomato and sliced garlic, chili - squeeze of lemon juice, and fresh pepper.
