Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)

My favourite part of ufc155:

That whole fight was great. The only thing that would have made it better is if Lauzon had been able to finish the heel hook.

and for Overeem vs. Cain, I see overeem getting gassed even quicker than JDS did even knowing cains gameplan. Did you watch Overeem vs. Werdum? that was embarrassing and overeem was hardly working and he gassed out so quickly.

Overeem's cardio has improved sgnificantly since then.

Great Fox UFC event yesterday.

Mighty Mouse looked in trouble early but showed grit and ridiculous conditioning to defend his title.

"Showtime" Pettis......that kid might actually beat Bendo. That jumping knee off the cage was sick. Then KOing Cowboy Cerrone with a nasty liver kick, yikes.

Lamas just straight put the beat down on Koch. My GF was watching with me and didnt understand why the ref didnt stop it sooner. The replay was gnarly.

Then Bader, who is up & down lately, had a nifty sub choke from his back.

There was some questionable refereeing / judging this weekend. Two fouls by Johnson, and if a point was deducted for the knee to a downed opponent it would have been a majority draw.

The judging for the Guida / Hioki fight was just bad. 30-27 Guida? No. Being inactive from top control isn't supposed to score you points, being active from the bottom is.

Overall a good card though. Pettis is looking great.

And Koch's tko loss was some straight up zombie shit:

i imagine you saw the jumping kick off the cage that knocked benson henderson off his ass in the final ECF event? wanted to smash my computer :|

i expected him to. Joe Lauzon is far from a wrestler.

Whenever Pettis faces a decent wrestler he loses because his takedown defense is awful. You would think he'd improve on it after all these years it being his major weakness at this point he probably will have shitty takedown D his entire career. I think the UFC knows this which is why he hasnt been given a wrestler since Clay Guida.

Or maybe because the top tier fighters at LW are not strong wrestlers at the moment?

Just a little info....

Lost to: Guida (decent wrestler), Bart Palaszewski (striker) --> Hmmm.......50% lose rate to wrestlers is pretty high I guess.

Won vs: Shane Roller (wrestler), Danny Castillo (wrestler)

So he is 2-1 vs wrestlers. Maybe his takedown defense is not so good but any dominate wrestler can get another non-wrestler down. GSP became a dominate wrestler to round out his skillset probably thanks to Matt Hughes. Pettis has quite a few sub wins so I dont believe he is altogether uncomfortable on the ground. And as good a wrestler as Guida may be, he didnt do squat against Hioki last Saturday except lay and pray then got the benefit of awful hometown judging for the win. Pettis has been sitting and waiting a while to get a deserved title shot so he has not been fighting on TV as often as Bendo, Maynard, Lauzon, Jim Miller and Edgar has been over the past year or so. Time will tell but I do not believe (not yet anyway) that facing strong wrestling is a weakness of his.

After watching Glover Teixiera against Rampage Jackson I think Jon Jones is getting some serious competition. Gustaffson also has a legit chance against Jones imo. I'd love to see Hendo get a shot, but I don't think he's going to get past Machida. So here's my question... who has the best chance of taking the LHW title from Jon Jones?

Not to jump on his bandwagon too soon but Daniel Cormier looks more and more like the real deal. He trains with Cain Valasquez and that is most likely the reason he will drop to LHW after his Mir fight. As good as Cormier has been, he still has lots of room to improve and who better to learn from than the UFC HW champ?

Yeah, it just pisses me off when everyone acts like Jones has cleared out the LHW division when he clearly has people left to beat.

^ I never thought Bigfoot was overrated even though Fedor was well past his prime. Overeem was cocky and paid the price. Like Bigfoot said as he stood over him, the fight is won inside the cage not outside it.

And what the hell, Rashad? :?

Blackzilians not looking so good.

Yes, it was wonderful seeing Overeem get ktfo. All this bullshit about Cormier dropping to lhw is stupid though. I think he should fight Cain if he gets past Frank Mir. Big Country has been on a bit of a roll too. I wouldn't mind seeing him get a title shot if he can get past Kongo.
