Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)

had the local drinking hole all lit up with ooooh's and ahhhhh's yesterday after it happened. thought the overall night of fights was pretty disappointing from an entertainment perspective. even rousey was disappointing imo. oh well, the beer on tap was lovely after not having visited a bar in some time.

disappointing to think if thats the fight that puts silva into retirement. hopefully the warrior in him has enough left in the tank to just make a comeback against some mid-rank dude, kick his ass, ???, profit. ending on a more positive note. id be dirty as hell if thats how i was remembered - "one of the best mixed martial arts fighters in the world who snapped his leg, ending his career".
 
yeah i saw that shit live on PPV it was fucking nuts!! at first i didnt see it well then they slowed it down and replayed it and it was fucking gnarly. we all went "AHHHHH FUCK!!!"

What? I have no idea how you can make that statement. There were only 2 fights that went to decision (both on the prelims) and the whole main card was all finishes (3 in the first round!) which rarely happens. Not sure what you were expecting but those fights last night were damn good.

And why were you disappointed in Ronda? Because it took her until the third round to win instead of the first? What she did last night was pretty damn amazing. The grappling ability she displayed was at a ridiculous level that anyone who knows judo or MMA should be in awe of today. I know I still am.
 
thats the beauty of differing opinions. they just werent overly exciting on the entertaining scale for me, more because i hadnt watched a night of fights in a while and when i go to the pub to pay through the nose for beer, unable to hear the telecast, i expect some stand up, fist to face action and blood spilled all over the octagone. im an ex fighter, so i appreciate the sport as a whole despite currently being out of the loop and up to date with every fucking detail of every fight in the last 12 months.

ill watch highlight reels of KO's, etc if i want to watch a bunch of 30 second fights. i like some substance to the fights and, perhaps by the beer goggles and better judgement, i just didnt see it. im not saying they were a terrible display of MMA, just not entertaining for me.

and dont get me started on ronda. i wanted to see that bitch destroy her opponent in a quick and swift display, instead i was let down with her display of astounding fighting ability. sorry my brother has the judo background and i dont get off on it as much as all yall martial artists.

yeah, i thought UFC 168 was sick. Every single fight on the main card was awesome imo. Not really a fan of the girl fights but I had a parlay bet including Ronda Rousey so it made it more interesting.

Anyone else upset over this new UFC Fight Pass? If you haven't heard already there is gonna be certain events that you can only watch on this UFC Fight Pass that is going to be $10 a month starting in March I think. Right now it's on a free trial. But yeah, the first event was like 3 days ago, UFC Fight Night: Saffiedine vs. Lim, and it had to have been the worst event on paper. I hoped the fights would at least surprise me because honestly I didn't really know most of these fighters because there were a ton of asian "prospects" on the card making their UFC debut. Well, all these new asian fighters looked terrible imo, it seemed like I was watching a bunch of amateurs and these guys are in the UFC. I'm telling you there are better guys in Legacy Fighting Championships than some of these new guys. Thank god the main event saved the day though. If you haven't watched it I would definitely check it out.
 
^I'm not a fan of the fight pass option but the fringe benefits seem pretty okay. I believe you get access to all their old/archived events from the past including ones from Pride, WEC, Strikeforce, etc.

As for that Fight Night, they are trying to expand into Asia (and other countries) this year so it makes some sense to have local talent on those shows. However, it does make for less than stellar fight cards but that is kind of expected on non-PPV cards anyway.

Oh and Cruz is hurt again so he finally vacated the BW belt and Faber is going up against Barao on short notice in a few weeks. Barao would have kicked the hell out of Cruz's bad wheels for 5 rounds anyway.
 
I just feel like if the fighters they are bringing in from places like Singapore aren't UFC level then they shouldn't be bringing them in. They're just gonna end up getting kicked out at some point anyways. It's like Tiequan Zhang, the fighter from China, who the UFC so desperately wanted to be good, but the guy just sucks and they gave him easy fights over and over and he'd still lose. Holy shit i just checked and apparently he's still in the UFC and he's gonna be one of the coaches for teh TUF: China, even after being 1-3 in the UFC and losing his last 3 fights. They just need to let the guy go already damn.

and we already saw what happened last time Barao fought Faber and it was his biggest beatdown since fighting Aldo. I actually think he might lose even worse this time. Barao is only going to get better and Faber's best days are behind him.

I'm not so sure about this. I do expect Barao to win but I dont think Faber is going to just let his legs get smashed again. His biggest challenge is taking this fight on just 3 weeks notice. You know he only has a losing record in title fights, right? He has never lost a non-title fight in the UFC or WEC.
 
Pretty good action last night. Romero's 3rd round TKO and Rockhold's liver kick KO were tops. Dillashaw's domination was impressive.
 
holy shit im so happy right now. This is my second time betting on fights and I put down $25 to win $32 that Cruickshank, Wineland, and Henderson would win and was pretty confident about that. But then I also put down $2 on picking every single fight correct on tonight's event and won $96. So ended up winning $128. I just did it for fun and didn't actually think i'd win the $2 bet because you gotta be really lucky whether you know your stuff or not.

it came down to a main event split decision and god damn i was so nervous. and looking back, alex caceres submission with 11 seconds left in the fight and if he didnt finish him i was feeling like he probably would lost.

man im telling you ever since i threw out that mayan figurine..

The elder Pettis is Bendo's kryptonite, otherwise he just "smoothes" his way to close decision wins.

Thomson fought the last 4 rounds with a busted hand/thumb which is not only impressive but he was still able to make it competitive throughout.

Cerrone's headkick KO was neat.
 
yeah i miss the old WEC Ben Henderson that was exciting every fight. Now he's all about this game plan that creates close fights and I think he doesn't realize that it's hurting him. I know he could be fighting much better than what he's been doing. He needs to be more aggressive because after 5 round fights the guy still doesn't look tired in the slightest.

next week two champion fights. I see both champions winning. and then overeem vs mir, whoever loses will probably be cut. I have a hard time seeing mir winning this. He has to get it to the ground and i just dont see how he could.
 
I didn't think he was too bad against Thompson, he can't finish a fight for shit, but it wasn't his worst performance. But like you said Mike, he's technical enough to give guys a really hard time but seems to hold back. It looks like he has the cardio to go harder, I think he's too scared of getting caught and falling further down the ladder to let himself go.

Cerrone is looking sharp! Lovely KO, but his overall performance was near perfect.

That $2 parlay bet you made to win $96... was that a 6 bet parlay?

I make a 6 bet parlay in the NBA everyday against the spread for $1. The return is 50/1 on my sportsbook so it's definitely worth it cause if you lose it's only a dollar and if you win you get $50, and i would say I hit my 6 bet parlay almost once a week. Just last week I hit it two days in a row
 
i probably will but i wanna see if i can make this $128 into around $500 before I start betting on anything but UFC. Unless I see something that is too easy to pass up, but for the most part i think UFC is by far the easiest to bet on for me. I'm real happy I was able to get lucky early on because now I plan on only using this $128 i won and see how much i can turn it into without ever having the possibility of being in the negative.

and it was a 10 bet parlay. 10 was the maximum so i actually missed out on two fights. I had all the favorites winning besides caceres i think.
