The Official NFL 2005 Season Thread

The Seahawks start out great last year. They were playing very well until they sufferred that lose to the Rams and everything went downhill from there.

For the last couple of years, the Seahawks have come out looking like championship contenders before fizzling into mediocrity midseason. I expect this year to be no different for them. :|

Also, it seems like the Bears chances look a tad less than sunny now that Grossman is out for the next couple of months with a broken ankle.

Personally, I'm just hoping Tampa has another losing season so they can give Gruden the boot. He hasn't done shit for that team since fluking his way to a Lombardi trophy with the crew that Dungy built. Now they just look like a shitty carbon copy of the Raiders.

:X :X

^for the Jets to be half-way decent and not a big-game flop as they usually are they need to get a new/better kicker foremost.

Uhhh, they drafted the best kicker out there.

Luckily for your Jets, the above statement is true for only about 19 teams.

Nah, I doubt it. If say - the Niners - did all of those above things, they would still win 6 games. That is true for playoff-caliber teams; and I don't think there are 19 of them.

I can't fucking believe that Grossman broke his fucking ankle last night. How fucking depressing. It was painful to watch that fucking game last night.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck............

Gotta Change some more of my predictions....
With Grossman out for Chi, the Bears will go NO WHERE!!!!!
It will be the Vikings, Packers, Bears, Lions.

Shitty for Chicago, there seasons over before it even began.

And T.O is still a bitch. I would never let him play for my team. For as good as he is, he brings the rest of the team down. There's no arguing that one.

^certainly the media plays an important role in why he is potentially a team cancer. His teams do rather quite well when he's happy. I'm guessing you'd pass on a Randy Moss too?

Agreed.

I was just exaggerating to make a point (as I often do) - many fans delude themselves into thinking that their 8-8 or 9-7-level favorite team can finish 13-3 and challenge for the Super Bowl if *A* AND *B* AND *C* AND *D* AND *E* AND *F* all happen.

Yeah . . . well I guess they CAN . . . but since the odds of *a* and *b* and *c* and *d* and *e* and *f* ALL happening are about 200 to 1, it might be a good idea to be honest with yourself and admit that you're daydreaming.

Back to your post, I will concede that your statement was completely reasonable - in my opinion, the Jets have 11-5 or so talent and if they get a few breaks, they are very capable of challenging to win the whole shebang.

Unfortunately for the Jets, however, one of the only two teams I feel is a full echelon better than them is in their own division and BOTH of those teams are in their own conference.

Just writing out this post has reminded me of just how fucking much I miss football. :)

I dont think Randy Moss has ever been such a disgusting distraction. Look at the way things are playing out in camp alone. Moss is outta the limelight, and is working as hard as anyone else in camp. Moss is fully a team player, compared to Owens. He's also a better player. Now Moss is ghetto, but you cant take the hood outta the hoodrat all thw way . . .

Everyone needs to remember the most important thing with the Jets is the health of Pennington. His throwing shoulder was still looking horrible at the end of last season, he could barely get it 20 yards downfield it seemed like. He said himself that this is career threatning, a threat to his whole livelyhood. It was a very serious injury, a serious procedure to fix it, and an ok recovery period. I wanna see him in action for a few weeks. . .

Randy Moss has never been such a disgusting distraction? Ask the Vikings if he was a major distraction and I'm sure you'll be surprised to find out that his attitude was a problem from day one. And fully a team player? hahaha... this is the same guy who walked off the field before a game was over in a crucial moment last season. Other "highlights" off the top of my head would include squirting an official with a water bottle and knocking a meter maid over in his car on purpose. Good call there Tanuki. 8)

There have also been numerous occasions over the years where teammates of Moss have questioned his work ethic...such as the likes of Chris Carter. No one seriously questions Owens and his commitment to being a football player. He showed up to camp to work too, if you didn't notice. His detractors might find his personality grating, but in the end it's just a contract issue that has blown out of proportion because the media loves stirring the pot of drama when it generates great headlines, even if it's causing a team to implode because "it's reported he said this and he said that". Moss is getting paid well...so why would he complain about his contract? Wait until that situation arises...and we'll see how much of a "team player" Randy Moss is.

You cannot just isolate this current situation and say T.O. has been more of a distraction than Moss, since such an evaluation would properly require looking over their entire careers. Basically the difference between the two is people don't like the personality of Owens while they don't like the stupid and quirky behavior of Moss.

I'm hoping that the Jets can break into said echelon. I know it is foolish to attempt to downplay the Pats, so I won't even bother (I hope they will be worse, but wouldn't be surprised if they are still awesome) but if the other team you are speaking of is the Colts, i'm still not worried about them. They still have yet to show me they are a physical team, or that they can stop anyone of defense. If you are talking about the Steelers, I would also disagree. The Jets can obviously play with them, as they showed in their choke job performance at Pittsburgh in the playoffs.

However, if you are talking about the Ravens, that's the team I'm worried about. They give NY a lot of problems, and they are just going to be better this year.

first on today's news, TO comes back to camp - totally uneventful. however, our 3 lead stories are about him. by the way - he just wants attention, stop giving it to him.

in other news, worldwide earthquakes kill 87 million people. by the way, did we mention what TO was wearing today? didn't we tell you to stop paying attention?

wyhen we return, what TO ate for breakfast this morning and what that means for andy reid and the rest of the eagles...

I went to the Dallas Cowboys practice today with some of my co-workers. Am I cool!?!?!

Btw, Roy Williams looked really big for a fuckin safety.

CB's are smaller than you think.

Drew Bledsoe didn't connect on one deep ball.

Bill Parcells is awesome.

d'oh! :D

not to string the subject further along...but listening to Ronnie Lott say "do I have to talk about (T.O.)?" when asked about his thoughts on that situation on the Jim Rome Radio Show and then come out and speak quite intelligently on the subject matter gave me hope that there are sports minds who don't buy into the media-induced crap opera.

And of course, the endless asskissing by Romey on the 49er glory days was a nice touch to a typical day. :)

Youre right. I just really hate T.O. for some reason compared to Moss. Also I am taking the newest incident(s) into account when I say he has never been such a disgusting distraction. I never said anything about diagnosing either of them as a whole, just from event to event, Moss has never done anything like alienate his teammates to the point where they want to fight, which alot of Eagles currently would want, even more if TO says one more thing out of line. But yes, Moss isnt a role model, and be4 this, was easily in the same class as TO.

you're comparing a contract holdout to someone that ran a person over in his car?

in any case, current espn.com headline: "Chronic Distraction: Moss admits marijuana usage." i'd be pretty fucking distracted wondering if my star player was going to get suspended for 4 games.

it appears that people here are a lot more distracted by anything than the eagles are.
