the official 2008-09 NCAA football thread!

i just hope osu shows up. if they bring their A game and get beat, that i can live with. i cant live with the buckeyes getting out hussled or out coached. i cant live with a mistake-laden game and a week after filled with "if we had done this, this would've happened"

either way i'll be full of whiskey and glued to the tv @ 5pm on saturday:)

RC as much as I like you as a poster here on BL, you are reigning stupidity with your SEC colored glasses on.

anyways, Beanie Wells is listed as "doubtful" to play against USC. he did not practice today. honestly, if Beanie is out (which it looks like he is) I don't think we are going to even give USC a good game. our backup is a year older, Maurice Wells, and he even contended for the starting spot a couple years ago - but if you so much as flick the guy with your finger he goes down. he is a lot faster so I hope Tressel knows to run him to the outside on many RB sweeps. you can run him to the inside, just on delayed handoffs or draw plays.

Not so fast, my friend!

The genius of Mr. Sweater Vest is about to be revealed. Beanie Wells with the faked injury puts USC in a comfortable mindset, and they prepare for Maurice. But wait...who is that in the odd numbered jersey that wasn't listed in the program? He's warming up with the offense...wait, there's more than one new body there - too bad we can't see them with their helmets off and know the face.

Kickoff....OSU on offense....and no Todd Boeckman quarterback to be found? They break the huddle and we find Terrelle Pryor under center with Maurice and Beanie in the wishbone formation. Can you believe it? Their running the Navy triple option offense!!

USC will never see it coming ;)

woe is the BigEasy...

powerhouses VT and (#8 )WVU got stomped by unranked ECU..
now Rutgers embarrassed at home on national tv by ACC bottom feeder UNC? Is there any hope for the BigEasy? Perhaps a stunning upset of PSU by the Orange(men)? ...sorry, I need a moment, laughing to hard on that one.

If it were possible to yank someone's BCS membership (ie, autobid for bowl), I do believe the BigEasy would have theirs removed for this year. I know it's early, but it's starting to look like this is the BigEast everyone was afraid of :\

Right now the best conference records wise is the Big 12, with only two losses.

The SEC, Big 10, and Pac 10 all have 3 losses, with Arkansas losing to lowly Lousiana Tech I believe.

So in my book the SEC, Pac 10, and Big 10 are all equal. I mean going by records...

The ACC and the Big East are the two worst BCS conferences.

I was kinda thinking a similar thought. USC barely wins, it might hurt them....USC blows them out, it doesn't really help them much :\

I'm not a buckeye, but I'd think OSU easily falls to 7-10 with a close loss, perhaps as low as 9-14 with a bad loss.

Here's another one - don't hate me, but what if it *is* a close game, and *both* teams look like shit :o Winner falls to #3 and loser falls to #7-10?

Okay, its only about 3 hrs since my last post. FL isn't playing and I really don't have much to say, but goddaaammmmmittttt I'm fucking jonesing for some college football right now. I mean, what happened to ESPN paying Podunk U to play Shitsville St on Friday or Wednesday nights? I mean, weren't we having something to watch at least 4 nights a week last season? GGGGHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH...uhhhhggggggg...

I need some football.
I need to get out of the office, but goddammit I need some fucking football right fucking now. Shit, I'd watch NW vs MN from 1954 on ESPN Classic at this point :X

question for buckeyes fans:

If OSU loses by double digits on saturday, how far do they fall in the polls? What if its by less than 10 points?

they likely won't drop too much. you have to consider two things: they are playing the "number one" team in the country and they are playing them WITHOUT their Heisman pencil-in running back.

it helps the Buckeyes that I think USC is horribly over-rated. they did make Virginia their whipping boys but I do not think UVA is the nine win team that we all saw last year. at the end of the season BCS poll (pole) positioners are going to look at that win and say "so what?" mark my words.

USC is easily better than a Buckeyes team sans Beanie Wells. it sucks that so much rides on one man, but I doubt many of you have ever played football. do you know how much easier it is to win with a stud runningback? as someone who used to play defense it helps out A LOT. instead of your defense constantly on the field, you can watch while the RB chalks up 4-5 yard gains methodically while you sip on some Gatorade or palm some percocets (not speaking from experience, nothing to see here officer).

some other good games that people are forgetting. I know it's hard for you all to realize that there are other college football teams save for THE Ohio State University, but trust me there are.

Notre Dame and Michigan? the annual Blue-Gold game looks to be pretty good because both teams are flying just about mediocre. did anybody hear Charlie Weis' pregame comments? "to hell with Michigan." good stuff, fat man.

You have a fucked up sense of excellence if you think either of those teams are even approaching mediocrity.

i honestly have to question beanie wells' heart. his foot is sore. nothing is broken, strained, or pulled. here's an idea christopher.... FUCKING LIE!

"feels great coach, lets crank it up."

ronnie lott played a half of football with a severed finger secured with fucking tape and this clown is sitting out the biggest game of the season because his toe hurts?!!! fuckin bollocks

football players are soft these days. you are a god-damned running back. Jim Brown would be shitting all over himself in his grave.

re: mediocrity. haven't you heard, Pander Bear? most sportscasters are saying that Notre Dame is approaching a 8 or 9 win season!!

That all-cupcake diet (minus USC) has done wonders for Weiss's figure.

Washington should beat them
USC should beat them
Michigan should beat them
michigan state should beat them

My hands are getting tired. I don't see many wins ahead for them.

Kids today are more concerned for their NFL career, so they aren't risking it in college. Back in da'day, 'pro football' wasn't all that, and you laid your heart (and ass) on the line for college because that was the end all, be all...that was where the record books were, and where you set yourself in society for life (ie, ex-local star stays and becomes congressman, insurance salesmen, pillar of community). Essentially, college used to be what HS is for a lot of wannabe athletes. Now, college is a training ground for the NFL, and those that know they won't make the pros may lay more on the line, but the studs aren't going to jeapordize their money making career. Not these days.

Don't be jealous that the game against USC gives us ample opportunity to abuse the name "Beanie" and not mention UGA's running back...the other one besides Beanie who have been mentioned around early Heisman gossip ;)

In my mind, stud = steroid_munching_pain_ignoring_beast != Beanie, fwiw

speaking of getting homer erotic- im developing a gigantic man-crush on moreno... can you hook me up pander?
