Tattoo planning time again. Opinons wanted.

Lol, it's just that if the tattoo artist fucks up when he/she is painting a face on your skin, all you can do is submit it to Ugliest Tattoos, and get it removed.

I think it's the words that have the symbolism when it comes to Hunter S Thompson. He was a writer, after all. Although he did look cool.

Aye totally agree. That's why the porprait was out of the question really. I like the wee simple outline one though.

A friend of mine works at a studio in Manchester, someone came in and got this recently

Prefer B+W tattoos (generally) myself, not that I have any! but I like em on others, my g/f just got two bows just below the back of her knees, maybe a common design but it's hawwt :D

as for you crackheed, don't have much of an opinion except that I hate the skull tribal one, just looks wrong. Might be OK just with the text and the skull, but not those patterns as well. Actually quite like the top one though

I thought it was a spraypaint stencil, which would make it even more rubbish.

get an MDMA molecule or something that looks modern and different.
You mind reading freak, I was about say I want this, without the word, and further up the inside of my forearm:

I also want dopamine on the other arm. There's actually a picture on Google of someone who has both, but I want them quite small. I've wanted them for years, so it's not something I'll regret. They are two of the most constant things in life, after all.

Crackface: I'm shit at art and design. I thought the top one was quite funky - shows what I know. ;)

This one would be mine on my cheat next to my heart

(I sure hope I got the right chemical sign now, knowing my luck it's Jenkem)

If you want a basic image transferred onto your body and inked over most competent tattooist can do that. The incompetent ones will even fuck that up. But if you want a piece of artwork you need to find someone who's an artist primarily, but has learnt how to use the human body as a canvas.

I've a friend who's an artist turned tattoo artist, I'll post some of his work later.

I think you should continue to collate images that appeal to you. When you have a lot more you can start to figure out what exactly it is that appeals to you and go from there. Is it the message, the artwork, the script or are all 3 equally important to you this time round? In that respect the stuff you've posted is very conflicting. The joy of tats is you can keep going till you run out of space, but seeing as you're trying to decide on your first it might help to narrow things down a bit.

Do you want it to be obviously stark or more subtly intricate? How big and where will also affect what would look good. Choose between HST or MM, thats one decision you can make to start the process.

I think you'd be wise to choose something that could be the start of a sleeve, and have it on your upper arm. Start your homework now as to who's going to ink you, put a shout out on FB so you can see examples of their work. If you find a true artist be prepared to travel, but they will also be happy to collaberate and come up with something that you don't just like, you love and blows you away every time you look at it. Their experience & inspiration will be pretty invaluable.

This is all just based on my approach to tattoos, i appreciate you may think I'm over complicating the subject.

I've phoned & booked a consulataion for tomorrow. Decided to keep it simple, still with some meaning. And something I reckon I'll get on my arm which a few of my heavily tattooed friends (some of them being artists, thought not tattoo artists themselves) have said would be a good choice/start if I wanted to expand on it.

Obviously gonna have a bit of a chat with the tattoo girl & see what she thinks about placement/size & slight changes. The place came quite highly recommended from a few folk I know with lots of tattoos. My mate just got an absolute cracker of a pirate ship done his on calf by this person & it looks fantastic.

I've always liked that "Memento Mori" thing. Quite happy with that & it's not a ridiculous comedy, mental or druggy tattoo that I might later regret. Fairly traditional looking.

I found getting tattoos can be quite addictive in its own way. You get one done which keeps you happy for a while then a few months later you get the itch to get another tattoo done and so on.
Just gotta make sure its something u really like or something that is personal to you so the meaning of the tattoo stays with you for life.
