Been meaning to see it for years, and t'was not what I was expecting really. Having said that, there were a lot of things I liked about it. I'm just not sure they developed the characters enough for me to really care that much. Still, worth a watch imo.
 
I rewatched La Haine tonight and I'm glad I did. Well worth it and I take back what I said it's not rubbish at all it's very fucking good. So stylish, so cool. <3

Not an art film, but don't worry it's hardly a jackoff hollywood comedy either. Best comedy I saw last year. Canadian production company.

I'm pretty sure us americans use both terms anyway? Film generally implies something with some artistic merit to us. Which might explain why you don't hear us use it much.

Watched Adaptation last night (haven't watched it in ages, about 5 years), almost forgot how brilliant it is :D

Synecdoche is next on the list :)

dustin hoffman effort? i watched that the other week with high expectations, found it a bit shite tbh. the siege part is pretty cool but over all it was disappointing. it's one of those films that i always remembered as being excellent then when i thought about it more i wasn't sure if i'd actually seen it or not. turned out i hadn't, i wish i still hadn't.
 
Aye that's the one crackhead. I liked it, builds up nicely until its full blown violence plus as Shambles said it has sodomy. Winner. :D
 
Wait, where's the sodomy in Straw Dogs? In the rape scene? Is there something I totally missed?

Any film that has Dustin Hoffman basically turn into Clint Eastwood 2/3rds of the way through is awesome by me.

Just saw Looking for Eric. Decent enough, but probably only of interest if you're a fan (of either Cantona or Ken Loach).

Also, I agree with Spade about the Orphanage; left me underwhelmed (saw it in the theatre, too).

Seen Cross of Iron but it pissed me off they weren't speaking German.
Dustin gets pissed off in slo-mo at cider guzzling rednecks is alright.
Ride the High country is Win but its before he went at it with slo-mo and gore.
The Wild Bunch is great but loads of people don't like it because after the first slo-mo shootout (aka John Woos wanking material) it slows down to 1mph for ages whilst being shot in non-slomo...
I'm undecided about Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid,seen the alleged directors cut twice and to be honest its a tad boring.
The Getaway is good,wish it was more fucked up like the original book though.
Think my favourite is Bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, but thats because its unrelentingly negative and so am I...

Went to see that at the cinema earlier in the year after reading that it was a classic war film. It pissed me off for the exact same reason. It was pretty average anyway but that made it worse. I didn't know anything about the film except that it was a 'classic' so for the first 30 minutes what I assumed to be American soliders were actually German soldiers. Even an attempt to put on a shit German accent might have been better. It mightly confused me.
 
Junior Bonner is pretty good. Weirdly non-violent. Mostly.

The Wild Bunch is one of the greatest films ever made.

No-one answered my question about the sodomy ;)
