I'd recommend any and all Miyazake fillums myself, MrM. Studio Ghibli in general, in fact :)

I've not seen them all, but i've seen a few others (all good). Porco Rosso came to mind only because it features lots of inventive (as well as historical and semi-historical) aircraft similar to Laputa.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhahahahahahahaha lol.

Dunno if i've asked this before, has anyone seen The Happiness of the Katakuris?

Enjoyed it more than the other Takeshi Miike films so far/

Audtion was twisted and a bit unsettling (but I liked it), Ichi The Killer was more visual/twisted than anything else (though I did like), but this film is a bowl of innocent happy fun... so peacefully surreal + the added bonus of hilarious songs and all the while you're waiting for Takeshi to throw in something horribly fucked.

Though this time its not that brutal incomparison, the amazing songs make it hilarious/uplifiting/so surreal it doesn't matter what the horrible things they've done are.

Songs make everything good.

No I just genuinely don't like any of those mindless Hollywood films made for simple folk who don't like real films.

Do you ever read back any of your own posts? So im simple minded and dont like real films then? Usually British gangster films are my personal favorites. Public Enemies was good though, your going to say its a mindless hollywood film cause you watched the trailer? And Hollywood films are crap? Fair enough you get some fairytale ending Will Smith or Tom Cruise etc bullshit, I hate that. But this was a good film, that fact that you aint seen it and say its not a real film shows how ignorant you are :)

I saw Until Death last night with Van Dam in the Sigal vs Van Dam thing on Channel 5....it was cheesey, typical Van Dam but I enjoyed it!

I've only seen Audition (very fucking good), but neither the first one or Ichi The Killer. Suxks! I really want to see them both. Seen clips of ITK and it just looks fantastically gory / funny =D

Has anyone mentioned any of Akira Kurosawa's works yet? Things like Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and Ran. He was one of the best directors at capturing the ways of the Samurai and had amazing character developing skills too :)

You can argue Public Enemies is not a mindless Hollywood film but you'd be kidding no one, I don't have to watch it to know that, the trailer says it all. And most Hollywood films are crap, there is the odd gem but most are just watered down, pointless, seen it a thousand times before films made for the masses in order to make big bucks, there's no artistic merit or creativity in them. Guns, tits and explosions basically. If that's what you like fair enough but they are poor examples of films.

I like films with a bit of substance, whether they be from America, Britain, France, Iraqi or wherever but I can't stand the majority of Hollywood films.

You say Public Enemies is a good film but what are you comparing it to? Other Hollywood films?

haha indeed.

Can't judge a film until you've seen it, a trailer is hardly enough to know whether it has a solid plot, good acting etc...

I;m about to watch this film called 'killing room', anyone seen it? Sounds pretty interesting: "Four individuals sign up for a psychological research study only to discover that they are now subjects of a brutal, classified government program."

the above post is filled with cunt

I try my best. =D

Lovefilm sent me 3 new DVDs today all of which I'm dying to see. City of Men (can't beleive I've not seen this one yet, City of God is one of my favourite films!), Sophie Scholl and La Haine which I'll hopefully enjoy, watching it on a comdown made it bleak as fuck and a bit rubbish.

What films do you like just out of curiosity? Its horrible that the in thing is re-making films that were great in their day Hollywood does indeed suck but there good films now and again from there.

Public Enemies is good, not near Michael Manns best but compared to 90% of everything thats out lately its so much better, but then the competition aint much.

Scroll back through this thread (or its earlier versions at least) to see my film recommendations. ;)

I watched this earlier which was good...

CITY OF GOD director Fernando Meirelles produces this follow-up to his Brazilian hit set in the favelas of Rio de Janiero. In CITY OF MEN, two best friends (played by Douglas Silva and Darlan Cunha) are divided by a conflict between rival gangs just as they are about to reach their 18th birthdays.

Can't beleive its taken me so long to see it.

Sure I've recommended this before but here it is again seeing as its Festival time...

Every year, thousands of wannabe's, has-beens and never-will-be's descend on Scotland for the Edinburgh festival. Away from the more commercial side of the festival - where comedians you've actually heard of will be competing for awards - the Edinburgh Fringe is the section of the festival where unknowns will be staging obscure shows in the hope that their big break is just around the corner. 'Festival', a rambling new black comedy from 'The Book Group' creator Angie Griffin, follows a number of disparate characters who are connected to the Fringe in some way, from performers to judges, and charts the fluctuating emotions which they experience

I'm sorry but that's complete rubbish. The trailer says nothing and anyone that has seen a few of them recently and then watched the films is bound to realise that there is no correlation whatesoever between the quality of the trailer and the quality of the movie.

I've seen some totally amazing trailers for completely crap movies. I'd be surprised if you didn't sometimes get the reverse as well. Judging a movie by it's trailer is like judging a book by it's cover.
