One of us is getting very very boring.

I think it's a side-effect of the HM movement reaching more recreational drug users. When Bluelight first started the audience was pretty small - generally nerdy types who were genuinely interested in HM and protecting their "scene". Johnboy, CowboyMac, Dr. Platyipus and others have donw a fantastic job getting the HM message out tot he media and the masses, with the intended benedits of reduced hospitalisations and safer use. The profiles of PillReports and Bluelight have been raised and more people than ever know about us. Thus there has been an influx of people that differ from the older Bluelight stereotype participating in the forums. These newer members seem to be less interested in HM and drug knowledge and more interested in socialising with people who sanction their own drug use.

Aus Social has become a place to kill time and shit-talk with your mates. Getting it back to what it was is nigh impossible due to the large number of users that are driving it's current incarnation. The priorities of the majority have changed, the mods have been essentially disempowered (largely due to not being members of the major social clique of the time, unlike several previous mods) and once-untolerated posts have become the norm (yes keystroke and nickyj, I'm looking at you - I like you both, but you really do dribble constant shit).

So what do you do? I guess there a few options for those who care:
1. Leave - find somewhere new that suits your needs.
2. Drive - start new threads and stimulate more in-depth discussion.
3. Support - help the mods regain more control over the forum. Put serial dribblers on ignore, don't respond to off-topic comments, don't respond to the attention-seekers, PM the mods instead of whining or flaming and stop salivating over pictures of anyone half attractive (or save your drool for PM).

We can whinge all we like, but without taking action nothing will change.

^^ mods, i guess you can close this thread now since it won't get more honest than that post

you can also add ppl directly to your ignore list by clicking on the myBL link at the top of the page and then selecting the ignore list option. Just type the names of ppl into the box to add them. It's quite a liberating tool.

I find it rather amusing at the same time cause Social was created to take this dribble out of the Aus Meetups and Drug Discussion Forums *lol*

agreed, for drug discussion - goto Aus DD.

for Event discussion - goto Event Discussion.

for social, mindless banter, come here.

For mindless banter, go to The Lounge.

For social discussion that has some basis beyond "you're so hot!" and "I'm so drunk!", come here.

I agree anna!, but a lot of the social chat gets shut down here by people flaming others for being social. If the purpose of Aus. Social is Harm Minimisation, I'll eat my hat.

The Lounge is basically North American Social.

Actually, social mindless banter is supposed to go to the lounge! Aus social exists to provide Autralio-centric discussion - general social dribble that is not directly relate to an Australian perspective really should be in the lounge.

Things have changed a bit since the conception of Aus Social: the creation of "college & university", "drug culture" and "film & television" has taken a lot of interesting discussion out of social, so the subject breadth and depth has been restricted: but it is still supposed to be different to the lounge. Social does not mean chat - check the guidelines - Bluelight is not a chat service. Social means discussion of social topics, i.e. topics that affect society. There is scope for some frivolity, provided it has an Australian context (if not -> lounge), but it is a discussion forum.

There's not a lot of discussion going on at present, just mindless banter which rightly belongs in the lounge or as private converstations. We have the word association thread to alleviate boredom and the off-topic thread to contain chit-chat, in-jokes and banter. Why can't the dribble be kept there? Ultimately, Bluelight isn't a democracy - it has rules and purpose, and membership is a privelege, not a right. Have just a teeny bit of respect?

The aus social people are more fun than the lounge though :p

I find the lounge to be the unofficial 'American Social'. I would rather my mindless inane banter with people that are in my hemisphere, in my state and are in with our culture. Also the possibility of meeting these people drives me to interact with them.

I agree with that smiley, but something such as "if you were a flower, what type would you be" sticks around in Aus Social while other things gets moved.

Exactly!

One of the main reasons why I got hooked onto BL was the fact that there are so many aussies, and there's meetups quite regularly. It's nice getting to meet new people.

The only people I hang around with are workmates, and that gets boring.

If everyone who banters mindlessly here went and bantered mindlessly in The Lounge, it would become far less of an American Social, and you could interact with these people that you could potentially meet over there instead. Then this forum could regain its capacity for proper discussion, conversation and debate. Please!

The reason you joined bluelight was more than obvious after your first few posts in the picture thread 8) That sort of crap is the bullshit I'm referring to.

Hey, sorry for finding the BL chicks on here quite the lookers.

If you haven't noticed I've changed since then, plus the first reason I joined BL was to make a PIll info request. Then I found the Aus Social and noticed how it was quite the nice community which is quite friendly.

As for the posts in the picture thread..I was just quite overwhelmed. On every other forum I've been on the chicks were no where near as attractive. I found it quite surprising.

^^ change it?

:P

And people, if you want to keep talking some crap, start your own bluelight journal, you can comment at each other in there and its ok within reason. I agree that aus social has gone down hill, and like up all night has said, ive seen many threds like this over the time ive been here, and normally someone will start some good threads, then it picks pace again to its previous status.

Now, where are all the intellectuals? Now is your chance to shine...
