Olympics - Beijing 2008

No Shawn doesn't compete again until tomorrow in the individuals. What that article meant is she didn't get gold in the All arounds, but she did get silver so she should be happy!!! And since her team mate got gold it's even sweater. And yes, she is an amazing gymnast. She has the perfect gymnast body. When i was a gymnast i had the same exact body as her. There are gymnast who have long slender bodies and they are good at the more intricate things but a strong sturdy gymnast like Shawn is good all around and specially at tumbling and vault, she's got so much power behind her!!!

I think in the 2012 Olympics we'll see Shawn get her gold. She'll be a bit more mature and her body will have developed more. I'm sure we'll see her again, in fact I'd put money on it! I can see her being the next Mary-lou!! I think she'll medal in the individuals.. it wouldn't shock me if she even got gold on a few apparatus's'

EDIT: I'm sorry.. the girls gymnastics is on tonight, not tomorrow. I typed that wrong!

Will closed growth plates mean more flexibility?

Sweet. yeah i dont know the whole gymnast schedule. What time do they start tomorrow? I'm hoping school is canceled cuz of this hurricane so ill be able to get comfy and watch :)

It depends on the gymnast. I had A growth plate disease which was the main factor of my quitting Gymnastics at 13 years old. At 12 i started having severe pain in my knees and than i had to be put in a cast for 12 fricken months and that ended my Gymnastic career!!

Everyone grows at a different rate and some people do well after their growth plates close. Conditioning is very important during this change. IF you condition well your growth plates kinda learn before they close and therefor your ok. But, yea some Gymnasts lose a lot after they go through complete puberty. and some people grow slower.

So it's hard to say. Experience can sometimes make up for growth plates closing.

The top 3 girls were really impressive. Guo, Wu Minxia, and Yulia Pakhalina. I hope NBC covers the medal ceremony for this event......

They should take it away from London just for that shitty logo. Ugh.

2016 is still in the decision process.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Summer_Olympics#Candidate_cities

There's the article on it. Chicago still has a chance.

I bet the US will get the Olympics again in your lifetime that's a long time for it not to be back here again. :)

LOL that logo seriously looks like one stick figure banging another stick figure in the pooper... (No offense England, but it does.)

Phelps and his 8 gold medals (I think he currently has 17 Olympic medals in his possession, absolutely) are absolutely astonishing.

Anyone see Shawn Jackson getting fucked over by the judges in gymnastics? And who could forget about the age scandal surrounding the Chinese gymnasts?

You mean Shawn Johnson.. and yes, she got screwed by the judges. She is a brilliant gymnast. I think she has a wonderful future ahead of her and she's got a great personality on top of that. Like i said before.. keep your eye on this girl, she's gonna take the 2012 Olympics by storm!!! I just got a feeling about that girl. I love watching her routines in tumbling and her vault.. she's such a powerful gymnast. She's really good on the beam too! I think bars are her weak spot.

I can't wait for tonight. It's gonna be a good showdown between US and China. I'm sure China will take the most medals but the two US girls WILL MEDAL.

BEST OF LUCK GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Usain Bolt.

Phenomenal.

Just WOW!

I'm all for the show boating there... it was just such a phenomenal performance, to be be streeting the field by about 5 metres with 30-40m to go... when you watch the head on shot, you can see him looking over at Asafa Powell (and all the others on his right) ever few metres, then he realises that he is so far ahead, he just went crazy :) he slowed up on the line and still took the record. You can tell that records don't mean all that much to him, but you can definitely tell that Olympic gold means a HELL of a lot to him.

He is just such an amazing athlete, I'm really looking forward to the 200m now. And, unless they have a baton problem, Jamaica are going to DESTROY the 4x100m relay... I mean they had 3 in the 100m final... It's going to be fantastic to watch :)

These Olympics have been awesome to watch so far :)

I agree.. this Olympics has been one of the best in recent years. Much excitement, phenomenal athletes. The athletes are stronger, healthier and more emotionally stronger. I don't know what it is.. better training, coaches getting the newest training equipment and using the newest techniques. They say the those newer suits the swimmers are wearing "the lazer suits" have a lot to do with the records being broken. I hear somewhere that NASA actually had a hand in making them. But, i also think the athletes are just better now, stronger! But the suits do help.

Also the technology being used at the Beijing Olympics is the best it's ever been. The runners have micro chips in their shoes that show on a computer screen exactly where they are. In swimming there are now touch-boards that get the swimmers time down to 100ths of a second.. now that is amazing. There is no more replying a video over and over to determine a winner (although they do still use video for some of that) But it's all on computers now. They can play back a Gymnasts routine 2 seconds after she's finished her routine. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I don't know yet. 15 years ago they couldn't playback a routine that fast. It seems to be causing some problems with the judging though.. but i think that will be ironed out by London- 2012.

This is a fascinating Olympics to say the least-- on all realms of it!

WHAT IS THIS "ME ME ME!" that keeps showing up in my god damn posts.. it's driving me crazy. I type a reply or a post, i hit 'reply' and i reread my post and there are these "ME ME ME's" showing up in the middle of words or sentences. What the heck is that?

I honestly don't think Shawn was better than Nastia in the individual floor exercies tonight. They did get the gold medal right, however. That Romanian girl had it all, grace and great tumbling. Every landing was on perfect balance and feet together.

The one thing which I think makes Shawn not as good is that she lands one leg in front of the other, and bent. If she would land em like the other girls, then I think she could be up top.

She only lands like that with her vault, it's a habit she didn't pick up till the first day of prelims.. why she picked it up than and not prior i don't know, she's been doing that vault for 4 years and all of a sudden at the Olympics she starts taking a step forward and to the side on her vault landing. Yes, Nastia is good. They are both good but Shawn has that spunk, that spark! Nastia is more of a consistent gymnast but Shawn has something... it's that certain thing that comes around only once every few Olympics. I can't put my finger on it. She has that 'it' thing. In the Gymnastics world these girls are often talked about and looked up to. Those girls with the spark in their eye.

I think that link the I had earlier was the results for Shawn Johnson. I think 2012 will be her year.

WTF is going on with the US track runners. Every time I watch they make such a big deal of the US runners and all have not qualified

Way to go Jamaica Gold, Silver, and Bronze
I'm happy for them
