No, that's not the case. I was a gymnast (i know, i said that before) and i have a trained eye. If an American gets a low score because they made mistakes i.e., Balance checks, stepping out of bounds, not sicking a landing, changing a routine or pass than yes..they should get a low score but if you were watching last night the Chinese were getting higher scores even though they were making more mistakes. A good example is the beam: Chinese girl made about 5 balance checks, American girl made 1-- Chinese girl gets higher score. Yes, she had a higher start value BUT the mistakes should have counteracted the higher score.

And i even said the Chinese men deserved their gold, they didn't make mistakes, the American guys did. But, with the woman's there were inconsistencies with the scoring. You make mistakes you get 10ths taken off period and the Chinese were not getting 10ths taken off. It was clear as day.

I think the Chinese girls are brilliant gymnasts and if they deserved a high score than they should get a high score but if they're making mistakes and not getting anything taken off, I'm sorry.. something is wrong.

Heck.. i think it's great when someone gets gold in their own country, it's a beautiful thing but fair is fair, rules are rules, age limits are age limits... mistakes get points taken off, it's simple as that and it was clear as day that this wasn't happening. It was MORE than obvious! It was painfully obvious actually. Which amazes me.

And I will agree that the scores on the balance beam were not accurate, if only evaluated on technical aspects. Isn't there a qualitative part of the scoring? Asthetics, grace, etc.?

I honestly thought one of the best floor routines was done by one of the Russian girls.

Now I'm having fun watching trampoline! I never even knew this sport existed. Maybe there should be a doubles event on the same trampoline......except they are from competing countries. 1st one to launch the other off wins!

I've had much practice at that sport. :D

Yea, Russians are very strong gymnasts.. their bodies are like horses (that's a severe compliment). They work very hard. And i agree, that one Russian girls floor routine was amazing but they didn't fair so well on some of the other apparatus and that's why they didn't medal.

As for the scoring.. Aesthetics and grace can influence a judge but they are only suppose to use difficulty and start value. The gymnast gets a start value and as she does her routine 10ths get taken off. As for the difficulty, if a gymnast does a riskier routine and they pull off the riskier tricks than they get higher scores, if they make mistakes in the higher risk tricks of course they get points taken off. But, yes judges can be influenced by grace etc. Gymnastics isn't only about doing the riskier tricks, it's also about how the gymnast flows in between each trick, how she transitions.. how her arms flow, her legs flow.. if her knees bend to much.. etc all that plays into it. But mostly it's difficulty and start value.

There have been some controversy's with this. Gymnast willing to do riskier tricks to get higher scores but the Olympic committee and coaches DON'T want their gymnasts doing these higher risk tricks because they are dangerous and they can get severely hurt. But, sometimes the risk is worth it.. the Chinese seem more willing to take these risks (routines with higher start values and difficulty) and i think this is also why they got the gold but they made a lot of mistakes and those mistakes (balance checks etc) should have counteracted a lot of those higher start values and that clearly wasn't happening.

The individuals are going to be very interesting.. specially now that the US girls have had a confidence boost. OMG it is going to be so close. I think it's going to be a nail bitter just like the All-Around event was. I'll be jumping out of my seat each time a US girl sticks her landing!!!!!!

Badminton: Men's Single Final
Malaysia vs. China

It will be on in about 20 minutes!!!! I am so excited. If Malaysia wins, it'll be the first gold ever by a Malaysian.

Our hope: Lee Chong Wei (world No. 2)

vs. Lin Dan (World No. 1)

I can't believe Grant Hackett didn't win the 1500m! It's a shock to the aussie world for us not to win this event

can you believe how fast the Jamaican, Bolt, (i think) ran. I was so happy for him and that he won a gold medal for Jamaica
the only this i didnt like about him was his poor sportsmanship
he was celebrating even before he crossed the finish line
oh well, good for him :)

Yea, that's not classy.. at least to me.. not how an Olympian should be acting. Celebrating before he crossed the finish line BUT i know he's excited and adrenaline is pumping, it's hard not to celebrate but still he should have refrained a few more seconds. But, Congrats to Jamaica!!they have some super fast runners. I have a friend in Jamaica, well ex-friend and she's very happy. His name is Usain Bolt, they call him "lightening" over in Jamaica.

I'm watching Women's basketball right now USA-New Zealand and USA is kicking their arse!!!! Damn that Diana Taurasi can play some ball !!!!

RPG

yeah his last name goes perfect for him lol
its understandable that he celebrated
if he didnt celebrate though he could have easily ran that in probably 9 seconds. but he said he didnt care about that, he cared about bring the gold home. im happy for him but he showed bad sportsmanship.
Im happy for Torres, she did a great job

I'd be pretty excited if I knew I was bout to win a Gold Medal at the Olympics. I don't think its bad sportmanship at all.. They are sprinters, they are jocks that can run, there's always going to be some show boating.

No no, not bad sportsman ship. I was an athlete so i know how it is. As a teenie bopper I was in many gymnastics competitions and when you know that you have the highest score and are going to get the blue ribbon, the tallest trophy or the gold medal sometimes you jump the gun and celebrate. Damn, i have no idea where my ribbons are.. i have like 20 of them. No trophy's or medals though.

So i understand why Bolt did that.. It's not like 100% classy but at the same time how could you expect someone to hold back ya know.. this is an opportunity of a lifetime!!

And yes Torres did AMAZING!! I was so hopping she'd get the gold in the relay last night but a 41 year old getting silver in a swimming relay is FANTASTIC!! She's has a lot of medals, she's been to 5 Olympics over a 20 year span, that alone is an accomplishment.

And how about Micheal Phelps getting the most golds.. The Olympic committee even gave him a special medal... they don't give those out very often. I was all teary eyed when our national anthem was playing. I'm such a sap for the Olympics.

And i love to see smaller countries win.. like the Romanian getting the gold in the woman's marathon.. she wasn't even a contender and she passed Kenya, America, Great Britain and China and flew home to the stadium. That was great to see!!! It's not just about one's home country winning. Yes, it's a stimulating feeling when our own country wins but it's really nice to see countries that rarely win-- win.. it's about the sport, it's about the world comming together. I always get chills when i see them shake hands after a competition-- different countries shaking hands after a competition.

And America kicks New Zealand butt just now in Women's Basketball, but that was actually expected. The two countries that will give the womans basketball a run for their money is China and Australia. The last 3 Olympics it was USA/China for the cold and each time the US wins by like 30 he he. I can't wait for that. I better not miss it, I'll be one pissed off girl!

As a track runner if i was up against someone like that I would not appreciate someone reacting that way. Although he did set a record and get the gold and i dont blame him for being excited he could have waited until he crossed the finish line. Im not saying it was bad sportsmanship, I'm just saying it was poor. I'm still happy for him though

Anyways did shawn johnson compete again today? I missed out on that but i saw something on the news online. It said, Johnson Denied Gold Medal Again. Thats too bad, she's a great gymnast IMO
