i'll have to agree that donnie darko is brilliant.
the cube is a wikid concept but the acting was baaad.
also LOVE the matrix and hanging out for the sequel and event horizon.
most recent movie ive seen was harry potter, the chamber of secrets. its not for kids eh? who agrees with me? mind u, i missed the end. i love it how u cant predict wats gonna happen. 8/10!

absolutely beautiful, moving love story spanning across two years, between a couple seperated by time and communicating through letters and a mailbox.
cinematography is amazing, storyline is convoluted; im amazed and in love with this film.
it's just topped kitchen as my favourite asian film.

I Saw Anger Management the other day... Definate rental... maybe even wait till a mate borrows/buys it then watch it when he/she does.
It takes ages to go anywhere, the end is kinda fun... but the whole movie is just shit, boring and tedious

Has anyone seen Metropolis? It's an Anime remake of the old German classic. It is one of the most visually impressive films I have ever seen. The animation is done by the people responsible for Astro Boy, and some of the people who did Akira. They're still screening it at the Astor.9/10

*the* second greatest french film ever (amelie's first, imo). wow, this film is the most erotic, weirdest, coolest, most interesting film. seriously, enough superlatives cannot be said about this. directed by bunuel and starring catherine deneuve (spelling?), and made in ...ooh sixty-something. '67 maybe.
anyway, it's so beautifully french, great dialogue, really *really* interesting story, very rich scenery etc etc. *SEE IT*!!!

just the same as *everyone* who's seen magnolia would have been, i was highly anticipating this film. hmm though. i'm not sure if i've ever seen a film in which i disliked the main character so intensely. sandler was ok -though i really don't think the role was as much of a stretch as others have made out- and emily watson was very good, but the story was very dull.
of course, the direction was *technically* awesome, anderson does some really interesting things with the camera, and colours as well. however, just chucking another *weird* film with good acting and direction at us doesn't make it necessarily good - the story dragged (even though it was short), the characters were quirky, but difficult to actually like, and that's about all i have to say

x-men 2 was nothing short of amazing... the action sequence with nightcrawler 10mins into the movie was probably the best choreography of CG and live action i've ever seen. totally speechless.
this episode had a better balance of action and developing storylines.
nice to see the sneaky reference to and cameo from other x-men characters.
storm is a babe.

vurt, i deffinatly agree wif u on xmen2, they went krazy on the detail in the movie (* i remember the metal clank after wolverine kills the chick in the pool* hehehe) i jst cant wait for part 3.

It's just one real solid action flick. X-men may be a leap year behind the Matrix in terms of inspiring visual and mental stimula, but man this was good. As che_m said, the attention to after details was nothing short of impressive. Plus how can you knock back a movie that has so many great and/or distinguished actors. Just like the original, it's a movie I will be watching far more than once.
Other movies I have watched recently,
* Monster's Ball (whilst on acid) - The last time I saw a movie that moved me so much was when I saw Happiness. This is one hell of a great movie and it's really well shot. Halle Berry was nothing short of outstanding. 5 Thumbs up.
* Gangs of New York - Really disappointed about this one. Great costuming, great realisitic set, ordinary casting (Daniel Day Lewis excepted of course) and far less than impressive script. I'm sorry but none of the characters or story line seemed even remotely interesting. SO DISAPPOINTED. 2 Thumbs up.
* Changing Lanes - Samuel L Jackson tries hard and Ben Affleck tries too hard. The rest, well it's hardly fascinating and barely worth typing up at all. 1 Thumb up.
* Catch me if you can - Loved it. I'm normally very critical of any Tom Hanks or Leonardo Di Caprio movie. But both of them did very well in this movie, in fact they were great. A great story too, had me fascinated for most of the entire story. 3 Thumbs up.
* Austin Powers, Goldmember (on acid again) - Actually a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I resisted for a long time on this one after I hated being part of the paying audience in the dreadful The Spy Who Shagged Me. The Powers girl was nothing short of stunning! 2 Thumbs up.
That's all I can remember for the moment. I'll be back later when May 16 arrives.

X Men 2 in tha house
X Men 2 - Get into it! Saw it last night with Melancholic and CuTiFuL.Man, that movie killed it! Never have I been so impressed with a sequal.The movie flowed quite well never dragging on for long.Oh yeah, DeathStrike, Fuckin Hot stuff! 
The only prob I had with that flick was the battle between DeathStrke and Wolverine was far too short.Through out the movie, DeathStrike makes little cameos here an there but is never on the screen for more than five mins.I felt like they were building something good and sure, the battle was good but not as nearly as long as it should have been to justify the hype.
Anyway, top movie.Cant wait for X Men 3 (Oh God!)

It does for action movies what a pallet of Cocaine would do for your life. Make it absolutely fucking sensational, with lots of explosions, incredible effects, insane action and weird people everywhere.
(And if you tried hard you could get rid of it in 2 hours, just like this movie
It just didnt stop, so much to see you get over loaded, never a second that isnt above average. Easily the best action sequel I've seen.
9 out of 10
And just around the corner itsssssss Matrix time.

yes i saw this at the dendy at martin place in sydney... was great... it was really interesting having the two styles of animation going at the same time... the 3D animation was amazing... some of the best that i have seen... and it was interesting seeing the 2D characters against that backdrop...
only thing that pissed me off was that the Kenichi and his uncle were in the city for the first time, but whenever they got separated, they would always find each other as soon as they were looking for each other...

This should not be reviewed as a movie in the same fashion that 'Bowling for Columbine' is imho a piece of film that challenges the way we conceive our day to day existence.
I have *never* been exposed to such an absolute onslaught of theory and questions, all challenging the most; instinctive, creative, religious, emotional, literary, historic and evolutionary concepts of our society and in fact the very barrier between life and death.
You could watch this in 10 minute blocks, then spend a week thinking about what has been highlighted in that short space of time, over and over and over.
Really made me sit down and force myself to concentrate in order to absorb what was being said.
If you ever enjoy a hell of a mental exercise this will definately be something you need to see before you live the rest of your life.

^^^ i think i might have already mentioned this in the thread, but meh. yeah, waking life is fucking fantastic. if you liked that, you'd probably enjoy reading sophie's world by jostein gaarder.
even though the two are completely unrelated, they both cover a great variety of philosophical topics, though in a basic way that us *normal* people can understand.
both are amazing
my movie review; just saw high fidelity, starring john cusack.
wow, i'm really not sure why i didn't make the effort to see this movie earlier. i think maybe because i'm so obsessive about music that any movie *focused* on music wouldn't live up to my standards. it did though, it was great. cusack was perfect in his role, and actually reminded me a lot of myself...maybe that's why i liked it so much. i'm not too sure what to say about it, but if you like music (or disfunctional romantic relationships from a guy's p.o.v.), go see it

Life as a House - Serious movie, about a guy with Cancer, living out his days the best he can. Loved it!

I saw The Ring last night and it's pretty damn freaky! After seeing supposed horror movies like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer I figured I was immune to scary movies so have pretty much avoided the genre for the past few years. But after seeing The Others the other week and now this, my faith in being freaked out has been restored.
