The Ring Trilogy

Im sure alot of yall have seen the American version of The Ring.
Its not without its charm but having seen the original japanese vesion first, you can really see the western methods of scare tactics come out.

The Ring saga has now become a trilogy Yay!
Ring, Ring 2 & Ring 0 (the prequel) are all available on video. What I loved about these movies was the difference in how fear was applied to the film. From the sound track to the directing. It all contributed a unique feel of horror. It freaked me out thats for sure. Its great to get a taste of the Japanese culture.Thats why I loved these films so much, because they brought something new to the table. Some may argue that the films were hardly scary but I believe that is only because you are looking through the western looking glass (Generally speaking). Its a different kind of scary, thats what makes it exciting.

Personally, Ring was my fave. Im sure you all know the story.
If not, here is Ring in a nutshell :
There is an urban legend about a video tape that kills you if you watch it (Kinda like my mums home made porno 8o ).
Its not the actual tape that kills you tho. After watching it, the phone rings and someone tells you that you have seven days to live.Sure enough, after that time, you die but leave no identifiable cause of death.
A reporter whose niece had recently died from watching the tape, goes out to investigate the myth of the tape and discovers more than she can handle...Ooooh!

If you like, Check the other two films as well. Ring 2 pretty much picks up where the first left off. Ring 0 explains how the horror of the tape came to be. Fuckin loved them.

-Peace

I know this is gunna kind of sound weird, but I only watched the usual supects for the first time, like last week... Every time I saw it at the video shop, I would just walk past it for some reason. Then a friend insisted on me watching it and lent it to me. All I can say is wow... It is one of those movies that finishes and you just sit there and go... fuck. I guess everyone already knows this... it's not exactly a new movie. If you havn't seen it though, do so quickly.

Other movies watched recently that have had the same effect on me are..

Bowling For Columbine
Human Traffic
SLC Punk
Memento

And more which I can not think of right now :D

The Rules of Attraction

I really dont think this title deserves to have points about it explained, suffice to say that it will take you on the same emotional roller coaster the director presented in Requiem for a Dream.

One tiny point - this film has one of the most amazing camera shots I've seen in a film, definately watch the special feature 'Anatomy of a scene' if you get the dvd.

To quote the director from Anatomy of a Scene - "In a world of disconnection, I wanted to visually illustrate connection - the real journey is watching where you have already been - and knowing whats coming...."

9 / 10

body heat
saw this film today, and though i thoroughly enjoyed it, if you're at all familiar with the film noirs of the 1940s and '50s, this movie won't surprise you in the least - the plot is lifted straight from that mode (or genre, or whatever it is we're calling it these days :)).

the acting is quite good, especially william hurt, who plays the role of the dumb as a doornail ned racine to a tee. kathleen turner (and, if the other comment i read on imdb is correct, in her first role) is also quite good, as the updated femme fatale, but we never really believe that she loves ned, do we?

derivative it might be, but it's certainly a quite enjoyable film, even for those noir fans like me, who could pick the film's ending about three minutes in. the symbolism (harking back to the '40's noirs again) is often amusing, and even borders on parody at times - hurt *literally* throws himself through a window to get to turner...having seen her body though, who wouldn't :)

all in all, this is an enjoyable flick, and if you're not noir-knowledgable, probably quite thought provoking too.

six out of ten.

Now heres me thinking that after not stepping foot in the cinema's for a month or so, the box office would be on fire with new quality...

The Italian Job

Watch the start and the end, fast forward the middle. Great cast, some awesome action moments and scenery - but then it really slows down imho.

8 out of 10 for the action scenes, but a 6 overall.

(Was a little too harsh first time round, must have been that time of the errr.. night?)

Excuse me, i believe you have my stapler

After hearing heaps of good reviews i got out Office Space on the weekend and all i can say is what a fuckin classic!! hehehe for anybody that's ever worked in a cubicle office, it's all just so true

"PC Load Letter?? What the FUCK does that mean?!"

lol

I watched 15 mintutes last night and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the movie. The first half hour is a bit sketchy in a way that progresses the story nicely. The middle of the movie is quite unexected and from there on in the movie takes off at breackneck speed and will keep you hooked until the end. I found the movie was a well needed criticism of the American media (guess ours is pretty bad now too) and the ending suited the overall style of the movie. I would definately recommend watching this movie at least once.
I also watched Pirates of the Carribean a while back and while it was nothing special it was enjoyable as there hasn't been any other pirate movies of late. Johnni Depp's character is pretty funny...

What a classic movie. Unless you've taken in Zoolander and Office Space on DVD in the last 12 months, DO NOT pass GO, DO NOT collect $200. Essential viewing.

I thought Pirates was pretty cool. Johhny Depp's role is HUGE, hilariously over-the-top and much larger than I had originally expected. Great one for the kids and plenty to like for the adults. Go see it if oyu have an hour or two to waste.

I would have to say that what I actually saw of 'TheHours' was pretty fucking amazing. Lovely, some would say exceptional acting, and an intrigueing story-line. Pity I only got to see 20 minutes of it....:(

Did you manage to watch the rest, Gen? ;)

Pirates of The Caribbean

I LOVE THIS MOVIE

It is a movie to watch if you want to have some fun and a laugh.

The thing I love most about this movie is Johnny Depps eccentricity. His character is over the top, but he plays it so well... he makes the fucking movie... oh yeah, and he is drop dead gorgeous.

Ok, absolutly the worst movie i have ever seen would have to be xXx with vin i love myself diesel, the only good part was when they got dropped off the plane and they were surrounded with coca plants hehe..... :)

dick smith powerhouse has human traffic on dvd for $13. Nice onnnnnnnnnneeee bruvvvvvvvvvvvva

I saw 28 Days Later the other night. Absolutely one of the scariest films I have ever seen. I walked out of the cinema with my whole body aching from being so tense for 2 hours. A great film, but don't bother bringing popcorn - you won't be able to eat it.:\

I'll second that. Thought it was brilliant actually. No surprise it was directed by Trainspotting dude (Danny Boyle).

Never can understand what people see in that movie, after I saw that I wanted that 90 minutes of my life back.

Saw Old School recently. That movie just rocks my world. I live about 3 minutes from a uni and have older age uni students with me in my house, so I can relate to this film in a major way.

Re-watched the Matrix Reloaded for the second time and it made far more sense this time. Apart from about the fifteen to thirty minutes mark the film rocks.

I'll second this... The day there is acting in a Vin Diesel movie I will eat my shoes.

Well i saw Rules of Attraction on video, and that was just a really wierd movie. I enjoyed it, I think. But the cineatography of it all made me feel insane, just because I was tired I think. It's not really too involved I dont think, and it makes for some good viewing :)

I also started watching Road To Perdition after hearing rave reviews but I thought it was boring as fuck (personal opinion of course)
