one word - ADAPTATION
OMG - this movie is awesome. by the director (spike jonze) and writer (charlie kaufmann) team who brought you being john malkovich, adaptaion lives up to its predecessor in quirk, black humour and originality. nicolas cage plays dual roles as charlie kaufmann and his twin brother donald. charlie is a screen writer trying to adapt the book, the orchid thief, to screen whilst trying to overcome writers block and deal with lots of personal issues. in essense, kaufmann has written himself into his screen play and things just get weirder from then on....
an absolute MUST see,
bk :)

How High, starring Method Man and Redman. A very light hearted stoner flick, but it's piss funny, I've watched it at least fifteen times since it came out on DVD. Its about a pair of brother's from the hood, Silas (Method Man) and Jamal (Redman) that are trying to get into college. They meet over a blunt of some weed grown with the ashes of Silas' dead homeboy who's ghost appears to anybody who smoked his weed, he is able to provide them with all the test answers becaue he is in the afterlife with a whole bunch of "smart, dead dudes". They achieve a perfect score and are admitted to Harvard where they learn what it means to be black in a privelaged white institution, engage in all kinds of riotous pranks and smoke copious amounts of weed. Its like a cross between a Homer Simpson college movie and a funny black people's movie, highly recommended but only for stoner's, anyone else will probably find it just plain silly. Keep your eye out for the character I Need $, one of the unniest side character's ever created!

I saw Pi and Bowling For Columbine in the last two days. Pi was on a Divx that had Audio lag. I couldn't be stuffed fixing it, but I think I should have in the end. It was getting frustrating to watch in many ways.
Bowling for Columbine however was brilliant. A film that was nearly worth every minute of viewing. A real reality check on how our most "trusted" ally is living out their lives. Apart from the obviously staged opening scene, it presented a very balanced view. I have tended to be a little annoyed about Michael Moore in some ways. He tends to rely too much on sarcasim as a way of presenting an argument and he couldn't help himself in this film on a couple of occassions. But it's remains still to be the most relevant film I've seen for a few years. WATCH IT! WATCH IT! WATCH IT!

kitchen, which was based on a book by banana yoshimoto. just saw it again, for the third time, on sbs tonight. i love this film... had all but forgotten about it till i chanced upon it tonight whilst surfing the channels.
a tragedy, a comedy, a love story of two youths (one of which, has a transexual for a mother) brought together by death, struggling to find a reason to continue in an apathetic reality. a very subdued movie, subtle and beautifully shot with an excellent script and matching soundtrack.
do yourself a favour and track this film down.

Hells kitchen: a touching story about life and what it can throw at you. You learn about the tragedies and piece together the incidences, it is smart and results in an unlikely happiness. It is set in nyc, it is tough but sweet.
I give it 4 stars

oooh and Angelina Jolie does great.

well, considering i haven't heard a bad word spoken about it, i went and checked out michael moore's bowling for columbine at the kino (which, incidentally looks pretty nice...it's been renovated or something i think) on wednesday. nothing much new to say, but i'll echo the sentiments of everyone else - it was awesome, and is a movie that *everyone* should see, but like someone else said, the people that really *should* see it probably won't bother...
and farken...charlton heston doesn't seem like the nicest bloke :/
btw - to all the cube-haters, you're wrong :) it was awesome!!

went and saw eight mile today, and it was quite good. i'm a pretty harsh marker, but i'l lgive it a seven out of ten. going into it, i expected a *good* film, with some pretty good acting, an ok script, but one which was ultimately let down by a really predictable plot. but it wasn't like that. sure, there were predictable parts (if you think jimmy's gonna end up slitting his wrists, depressed, at the end of the film you're an idiot :) ), but there were at least two, maybe even three surprising parts of the movie. i'd love to go into detail, but it's a bit hard to avoid spoiler*ing* on a board like this.
anyway, the script was quite good, and eminem did a real good job for a first time actor. though he (as someone else mentioned) seems to have a limit of about three facial expressions total, his acting was otherwise above average imo. go see it, you'll enjoy it better than crossroads (yeh, i saw that too :P)
btw, is there a list of the tags for symbols (such as the stars above) to make them appear *in* your posts...i know the obvious ones like : + ) stuff like that...but i want stars :)

have just seen xxx
don't waste you time! this film is as bad as it looks, no wait- it's worse.. terrible acting, ridiculously perdictable and very, very unchallenging.

Saw Oceans Eleven, Bend it like Beckham, LA Confidential and Memento on the long weekend.
I had already seen the last two before, but they are still two classy flicks. Oceans Eleven was intriguing, but still annoying. It's what I call a fun yet-semi-brainless who-done-it. Bend it like Beckham was worthy 3-star pizza video, quite enjoyable.
In the next week, I hope my Event Horizon DVD comes in. I've been meaning to get a good jumpy movie for a while, I can't wait.

I lend my support to Bowling for Columbine... utterly brilliant film. I can't say much more than what everyone else has said, but do yourself a favour and GO SEE IT!!
Watched Van Wilder Party Liason the other night... good for a laugh... Ryan Reynolds, mmm mmm. Standard gross American college type flick, but fun nonetheless.

Saw bend it like beckham yesterday. it was a good way to finish the long weekend off, just to be able to sit there and not have to think too much. all in all a pretty good flick.

saw 8 mile and catch me if you can on the long weekend, i was suitably impressed with both.
i can't say that 8 mile was brilliant, and i was expecting a bit more than what it was considering a lot of the hype that has been going on about it, but it still was entertaining and i enjoyed myself.
catch me if you can was also good, nothing special, but it was fun, and i enjoyed it.
CB :)

^^^ me too.
Sean penn's performance was so brilliant it was heart wrenching.
Definately a thumbs up from me for 'I am Sam'.

here is two very wierd but exceptionly well made films,- It couldn't happen here, cinematographry mind blowing, and Delicatessen, very freaky, including a scene which is um..., progressive....:>
Oh those who saw run lola run see the directors other film Anatomie.
And three cheers for evil dead 1-2-3, it has a $50 deposit on it to rent it out!

Hey. Every 6 months, to relieve to the boredom (in a non-sexual way), i go and rent 3 classics:
Army of Darkness: Evil Dead 3 - Complete cheese and i love it!
Childs Play 3 - Pretty cheesy as well, but some classic lines
SpaceBalls - Funniest movie of all time
peace
