melbourne shuffle

When (if) One Perfect Day is released in 2004 it should be the first full length motion picture to include the Melbourne shuffle. A friend of mine found it rather amusing (the shuffle inclusion) at a recent preview screening.

i know what you are talking about with the hopscothc dance.
ive seen a group of about 7 people do it at Home (syd) - hard house/trance and it looked absoutely awesome. they had the right energy, some had lights, and moved great.

I had a look at thatvideo of the shuffle. It has some pretty fine foot work. It is quite similar to the hopscotch except instead of picking up the foot it shuffles across which I guess is what makes it unique%)

Are there any non-*.wmv clips of dances?

My shitbox WMP somehow won't play its own file type.

I just checked out the basics video. I'm from Adelaide and this is pretty much similar to how I dance except that I lift my feet up more, cos yeah, you can' slide here, add some wicked hand movements that go to the music and you have it. I never practice this at home, just give me some loud Drum and Bass and it just sorta happens.

^^ One Perfect Day

Yeah, my mate was filmed for the flick, was at Godskitchen, i think... Interesting to see what footage they use

apathenol, the dude with the white gloves is my friend Frost-E from Canada.

He's the 1st person I met doing liquid in Australia, and is pretty damn creative at it. The 1st liquiders did use white gloves so u would focus on their hands. And in liquid, it's popular to imitate liquid moving, and building objects. So dat's why it kinda looks like miming.

If anyone is heading to SummaFieldayze on the Gold Coast this Saturday, keep a look out for a guy with a 'Jason Voorhees' mask doing some liquid. Datz me, and feel free to approach if u wanna learn da basics, or just for a chat.

peace.

When enough people be there then 100th monkey occurs to those dancing and witnessing(if they want to).
It of course then transcends/evolves to new intricate and very beautiful patterns, designs and funk/flow/brilliance and prodigiousness. They that expound/witness these new evolutions may be transformed by the brilliance of the *light shimmering of the brook.

or

dance how ya wannna dance its all just the latest& so what how ya move its just prancing till ya get ya treestump.:\

Aaaargh! 100th Monkey!

I think there needs to be a sub-tenet of Godwin's Law that applies to Sheldrake-isms.

Back on-topic for a moment... are the shufflers in One Perfect Day any good? You realise you've made me go out and see it now, you bastards, and I was going to skip it on general rave-wagon-movie principles...

Joel, getting his shuffle on for the first time in a while at Belfast tonight ;)

Yeah I've since been able to talk to him... and it looks like miming because he was miming.

Hey Joel, how was Belfast. We made it all the way to the outside but the couple I came with were hosting WWIII domestic styles so did not venture in. I hear it was way cool.

Re: oneperfectday - well there were many talented shufflers but I do not know who made it on as they had selected dancers especially for the QBH gig who did not shuffle at all. The crowd shots at the salt mines and PVD should prove more fruitful.

from a Melbourne based dance/rave movie it should be quite a specticle. I just hope they havn't over killed it with ausie melodrama... home and away/neighbors styles

I hear it was way cool.

Belfast was really good - I hadn't had a really good dance for quite a while, and overdid it somewhat (to the point where I spent the next day at Sunshine People lying on the grass, my back and legs having stiffened up due to the unaccustomed hyperactivity). Bolland was excellent - the only disappointment was discovering that Andrew Marsh's set had become a vs, with some guy none of us knew and didn't like that much. Pretty good-sized mixed crowd in a very good mood... didn't even notice most of the QBH annoyances.

Speaking of Belfast though, and speaking of shuffling, for the first hour I thought I'd broken my shuffle. It was really weird; it felt off-balance. So I got some of my friends to play shuffle doctor... turns out it was too much breaks in my diet last time I went out, and I'd somehow acquired a move with an extra half-beat that had seemed perfectly OK at the time, but which was cumulatively knocking me out of kilter back in 4/4 land.

Once they pointed out the offending section, I could excise it and really flow for a long time - had a little crowd of (mostly non-raver) onlookers at one point, which freaked me out when I noticed.

I also ran into the Zolts, which was a beautiful surprise. Those two need to get out more dammit!

the floor at Belfast was swarming with awesome shufflers. was so much fun just kicking back watching the guys in the corner doing some robot movements with shuffle action. so very cool.

Dammit, that vid and all this talk of shuffling has given me the worst craving to go out dancing!!! ARGH!

There have been plenty of short obscure ads for oneperfectday on Foxtel.

Has anyone noticed them on mainstream TV?

That film better not be going straight to pay TV god damn it. All that effort better make the international stage.:X
