Swybs...

It's cool but I still don't see how it would be possible, the physiology doesn't make sense [unless the person had a freakish anatomy, double enzymes, etc.]...ON the subject of bags...Of course it matters on location, etc. but 100 mgs. is always quoted as the average size, on every site, journal, paper, etc...Here in NYC there hasn't been any "twentys" since 84...I think that I mentioned that "if we are using a 100 mg. bag as a baseline" but I could be wrong. In the end it really doesn't matter but I still have to ask "2 Darvons?"

I think benzos help, but you will still go through hell.. It helps alot with the anxiety part, but the coldsweats and the twitching doesn't stop which bothers me a lot. anway, yea it does help, but this is just me, with no benzo tolorence I took around 23mg of kpins and I was still feeling like shit and oculdn't sleep.. ?

I guess it could be of some help, but when ever I have detoxed in the past I use benzo's in conjunction with dextropropoxyphene or codiene(preferably dextropropoxyphene). Just try not to use either of them for any longer than you need to as, just have others have stated above- benzo addiction is a motherfucker of a thing. I have managed to stay away from smack after years of addiction but I am still heavily reliant on benzo's just to get me through everyday life. Be carefull, I guess thats all the advice I can give... and, good luck by the way.

depression from opiod withdrawls

i am a hydro/oxy/mscontin/fentanyl...whatever addict...im off them for a few days now and the depression is HORRIBLE....how longs does this last? it make me wanna use something just to chase the blues away...i wanna stop because i just had a son born and my wife is on the verge of divorcing me, but this depression is unbearable...:(

If you're through the physical bit (it can start the depression, purely by not getting enough sleep), then I can honestly recommend a short course of antidepressants (2-3 months), and the more you don't dwell on the opiate effect, and the drugs, the quicker the depression will go.

I'd say you've got a good chance if you've had a change in your life, such that YOU want to give up opiates , and having a kid is about as big as they come.

You will have moments when depression/craving will resurge, but the more you resist the craving, the less the cravings will come. You may need some assistance to help you sleep some nights, but if possible, tell your wife what you're going through, and why: having someone to talk to can make a hell of a difference (I'm assuming she knows you've got an opiate dependancy).

Good luck, and remember, you may even have a relapse, but as long as you really want to quit, you'll succeed.

Yes the depression from opiate withdrawl is just fucking awful. It's something you're going to have to stick through. It took me a good 7 to 10 days for the physical symptoms to subside, and the depression/psychological past lasted about a month. But everyones different... depending on what and how much you used. But it WILL go away if you stay off the dope. Perhaps a buprenorphrine or methadone treatment would help you. I'm really not an advocate for methadone, but it works for some people. And bupe... well I've only heard good things, but it is expensive.

This sounds more like a Dark Side thread..... :\

well i was never pysically addicted to any opiate(thank god, got out of that one by the skin of my teeth). well to help with the depression i noticed a few things helped.

lots of pot about 3 times a day.
as much sex as possible
exercise on a daily basis

yes weed may help, it makes me often feel bad if i take other (hard) drugs. It also provides you with both physical and mental relation and the stoned feeling that comes with it....but if you are in physical trouble i would guess it makes things worse...because on the other side cannabis often tends to intensify my actual mood....does this make sense? ;)

yea, the depression is horrible. I went 20 or so days without using (after using consistently for 7+ years) and continued to feel depressed (using only 5-10mg of percocet only on nights where I was so miserable I appeared suicidal). Unfortunately, I lost a close friend to suicide 2 weeks ago, and have been regularly using 10-20mg of percocet per night since then, which unfortunately, is not a good idea, since I was over the physical WDs (as long as it took) and yesterday, I felt a twinge of WDs, since I didn't take any...sleepless, pained-leg night, etc. All from 20mg of oxy after being clean for a long time. This shit sucks, and I plan on getting off again. T

The depression may have sucked, but waking up and knowing I could go a day without taking anything and not feeling incredibly ill and tied to drugs was a good feeling. Fuck, timing sometimes sucks. Anyway, the depression can last more than a few weeks, but remember, it gets better . . . I started feeling twinges of feeling normal, and had I had some weed, I think I would have been good to go. Smoke some weed, drink some beers, and try not to think about it. If you want to be clean from opiates/oids you can. It is tough, but def. possible, and ultimately, when you reach a certain point, it is the only way...

thanks for all the advice guys...seems i have to do something to help my W/Ds...i did some coke and it helped but thats bad to :(

i dont think coke is a great idea in this case, as when it wears off you'll feel even worse... unless you keep doing it, in which case you'll just get a new addiction which isn't much better.

first off congratulations i am in the same position, well my child is due next week. I decided to stay on opiates, well MMT until such a time i can reduce at a pace i can deal with. I too had major depression and even got diagnosed with bipolar. Its hard to say how long it lasts, with me 9 months later my moods were still all over the place. But i was on methadone for 13 yrs.

You could try things like DL phenylaniline, St Johns Wort, tyrosine, there are some others that i can look into if you like - these may help with opiate wd but arent scientificaly validated.

My biggest suggestion for anyone in a position where they are quitting due to family reasons (potential divorce primarily) is to get into couples counseling with a therapist that understands drug addiction, and doesn't just demonize it. If your spouse could understand what's going on a little better, and how they can support you through the transition to sobriety, it could not only make things smoother, but also show your S.O. your level of commitment to the relationship and help them feel included in your life.

There are a lot of ways to get through the w/d's (physical, mental and emotional). But, the hole that the drugs were filling is still there, you are just putting a band-aid over it. A Gestalt marriage counselor or couples therapist with a background in addiction, or something similar would be my first suggestion.

good luck.

I'm going through a similar situation with an IV Heroin habit right now. Basically once the sickness is done, which for me is a bad fever, profuse sweating, hot and cold flashes, horrible kidney pain, and constantly having to spit out the saliva that builds up in my mouth every minute, it becomes a night and day thing for me.
Thus meaning, I know a lot of people have this emotion of needing something to get out of bed in the morning. I am very much like this, my schooling is such a drag for me and really the only thing that got me motivated was shooting H. Along with this is night time, it is very hard for me to fall asleep sober because I am very uncomfortable and ansy.
I'm glad and happy with my choice to break the habit I built, because it was getting pretty serious. So to other struggling addicts out there, you are most definately never alone.

i too suffered the same sort of depression when trying to quit -- i went on bupe and my doc prescribed antidepressants, but i didn't want to go down that road. i did the bupe over about 6wks and during that time i bought multivitamins (with lots of B12), and some St John's Wort .. and it worked a treat. it didn't consciously elevate my mood, but i found i was no longer getting worked up and crazy over little things. when i would run out of the st john's i would notice myself getting all edgy and depressed again.

since being clean i no longer need the st john's, but if there's shit going on its always handy to buy a bottle.

hope this helps... ;)

You know, this might just be me, but the depression from opioid withdrawals lasted until I used again and the longest that the depreeion lasted about 2-3 months.

I was dependant for about 2 months before I decided I needed to stop, and the depression came in fits and bursts afterwards for about the same amount of time (at that point I got lofepramine from my doctor for my SAD) and that saw off the last of the depression. After the winter, when my SAD was no longer an issue, when I stopped taking the lofepramine, I felt reasonably OK. Don't know if the depression is of about the same length for everybody, or if it's related to the depth of addiction.

No, no, no, don't be doing cocaine if you're trying to quit opiates. you're loading your brain with seretonin then depleating it, making your depression even worse. I'd definetly stay away from coke...

I have the depression both using and not using.... depressed using because of all the money and the addiction; depressed not using because of every reason stated above.
I was clean for about six years and tried every anti-d out there. I hated them all.... they all left me really groggy and irritable.
I think one of the major aspects of addiction and using/relapsing is boredom. When I'm bored, the first thing I think of is using. I know it's easier said than done, but try to find something else you enjoy to fill the time you would spend high..... and a good start would be with your new baby boy! Set a good example! Even though he's still a baby, your being around will have a positive effect when he gets older, and at least he'll have a daddy and won't be a boy raised by a single mother.
There are a couple other things that helped me if you want to chat sometime. Just drop me a PM and we'll go from there. If not, good luck.... and just try to stay busy doing things, no matter what it is, other than using/abusing any type of drug.
BTW, CONGRATS on the birth of your son!
