chopped_chimp said:I fly back to NZ about 4 times a year, however I just had a look at the availability and prices to get back over Christmas and it looks like it'll cost about $850 minimum to fly to Wellington from Brisbane! And to top it off, most of the available tickets fly through other city's, making the trip about 12 hours. What a fucking joke! For that money I could go to Fiji, or Bali, or Thailand, or even stay in Queensland where I'd be much happier anyway...
Do you think if I wait till next month there will be more flights released? Anyone know any good tricks?
I purchased tickets a little while ago (around 6 weeks) and got return flights for two from Sydney to Christchurch for $950. This is flying on Christmas Eve and returning on New Years Eve, flight in Virgin (Pacific) Blue, flight back Air New Zealand.
Unfortunately I think you've missed the boat on the cheap fares. I searched all of the airlines and all of the days (as I was fairly flexible). It was also made cheaper as I paid for the return flight in Australian dollars but it was quoted in NZ dollars so I made a currency gain (I think that is really only possible with Air New Zealand).
Just to give you an idea, I did a quick search in December, and came up with airfares totalling over $1,000. Fuck, you guys get screwed flying into Wellington. Christchurch/Auckland is so much cheaper (as Jetstar/Pacific Blue fly there).
But perhaps flying from Brisbane is more expensive (although surely not that much more).
Try using www.hot.co.nz - it has the best/most innovative online booking engine in the world. So it will allow you to compare a number of airlines. The only disadvantage is that it only allows you to search flying out of NZ and back from Australia. But you can play with the dates to still get the best flights.
