Just how bad is the "Ghetto" in your city.

lol all amateur ghettos that wouldnt last 5 minutes in the deep south A.

I live in the most dangerous city in the world (Medellin, Colombia), or at least -was-, and while ive never had an issue yet, its hard to find somone who hasnt. Ive heard some of the craziest stories of escape from FARC kidnappings and shit like that. I know a guy whose missing both his hands cause he didint pay a $160 debt to the cartels, they even cortorised (SP?) his wounds so he wouldnt bleed to death while they gave him a firm blunt force beatdown.

In Medellin you got good city... then 100 feet away in any which way is nothing but slums to the hillsides. And no matter where you are, your always being watched by lookouts, your always being sized up by kidnappers, stalked a block away by street muggers. Everyones
watching you at all times in public and the second theres a chance, shit goes down. Thats why unless you have bodyguards and your wearing a vest you should never wear anything expensive anywhere in public. Dress like a broke ass colombian.

Colombia corruptions so thick that they even have access to your bank account balances and other such information usually the second you enter the country, 'they' usually being the FARC and their freelancing kidnappers.

Oh and murders... I could take you for a walk through the slums and guarantee youd see a dead body sometime during that day. Its gnarly lifestyle them south americans live. You think you've seen ghetto, you aint seen nuttin.

How bad is Colombia? I always thought that it would be interesting to visit, especially Medellin. (Yes, I know I have an odd taste of travel. Amongst other places, I'm spending two weeks in Palestine this summer.)

But to answer your question, my city's ghetto is a joke. I work at the soup kitchen there once a month, and I've never had a problem walking around there at night. A couple of blocks down the road, and you've got a hookah bar, an Indian restaraunt, an Ethiopian restaraunt, you get the idea. I've had plenty friendly encounters with the locals, and I don't think it's possible to cop there.

There is not much of a ghetto in upstate NY but i recently traveled to san diego and it's funny how many people just think all of NY is the city no matter how much i explained about the northern part of the state.. We do have some ghetto in albany and surrounding small cities, but no where near a real ghetto. Ive lived in boston and philly and san diego. Philly seemed to me to have the worst ghettos. I laughed at what people in San Diego thought were ghettos. I guess it all is your take on what a ghetto is exactly.

^Not necessarily. I'd say the cities are destroying the people, and crack usage is just one symptom.

I live in melton sth. australia its called the hood by everyone who doesnt live there are scared to cross the tracks i live across the road from where everyone meets to sell drugs and stolen shit.

Detroit is fucked up not so much in the crime sense but more just run the fuck down. Which makes the stuff that does occur there twice as devestating because its just piling shit on shit and just stacking misery on misery and it all just explodes one day...

^Yup, you know those darn black people always trying to turn normal good nice white areas into ghettos. 8(

Please. :|

Anyways JenniD you laughin at what they call the hood in dago?

Iuno i never been there but word is the gang shit out there aint to be fucked with...

There is gangs on the eastcoast no doubt, but it aint like it is out west here.

and gangs dont make a hood bad but im just sayin, Compton dont look near as bad physical appearance wise as Newark or Camden or areas of the city in NY but its just a different kind of hood...dont mean they aint hard

Good point. I was copping dope in the most dangerous city in America but to be honest it did not seem as bad as I thought it would be.

My city is really segregated but we have a terrible downtown/slum area. I've actually never gone down there but there are shootings and murders. Alot of it seems to be gang-related. I'm not sure. Its really weird because alot of the stuff almost seems "hidden" unless its a murder. There are worse cities, but our city is relativly small for the amount and types of problems we have. You cannot walk downtown without getting asked for money (by crackheads, I usually can tell the difference), and it can be dangerous at night. This is just downtown though, the slums are farther west and east. We also have alot of people coming from Chicago and other areas to live because so many projects are being taken down, I guess we get paid to have people move here. I work in the same building as our probation office and general assitance office so I get a good view of it I think. Crack is a huge problem here and alcohol. Everything is avaliable though, I don't know where to go nor do I want to.

Also my city rountinly makes the lowest spot on money magazine's worst place to live... ahh well, I'm not complaning. It could be worse.

Chicago, IL

The west side is pretty degradated. There's not a lot of violence considering how messed up these neighborhoods are. But the drugs really mess these people up. I could never imagine living on the west side and trying to kick a crack or heroin addiction. You cant go more than a block or two without hearing "rocks and blows". I dont go to the south side of the city, but I hear its even worse.

I think the only ghetto I see/go to these days is Crown Heights in Brooklyn. I'm like a light-bulb when I go there, but I stick mainly to Utica Ave, and it's actually not that bad.

thats not what were saying, but at least as far as atlanta is concerned, Atlantas ghetto IS for the most part black. its just how it is down here in the south. Sure theres rednecks everywhere too and theyre ghetto in their own rites, but as far as atlanta's city ghetto, its pretty much all black.

what he said.

i grew up in dekalb county and it's pretty black ghetto. but then you move on to gwinnett county and that's mostly asian and hispanic ghetto. downtown is pretty bad....all your projects, soup kitchens, homeless strewn about all over the place. you don't walk in parks by yourself, you don't walk the city in certain parts by yourself - but that's every large metropolis, right? but i'm not 'afraid' by any stretch of the imagination. i went to a high school with large factions of the bloods and cryps, got beat up during the rodney king riots simply because i was white and alone in a less-frequented section of my school, got continuously picked on and harrassed until i graduated, but i still ain't scared. there's just some places you dont' go and i know where they are, or there's some places you shouldn't go but if you carry yourself well, you aren't gonna get fucked with. i know that too.

what i am really interested in is this new "ATL" movie that will be out soon. that outta be good for a laugh. it's basically trying to portray atlanta as this huge thug city, comparable to south central or something like that. and it's totally not like that at all, just sensationalized for hollywood.

Ive been to Cali, Manizales, Medellin, Bogota, Barranquilla and Cartagena and out of them all Medellin scares me the most, but traveling the country roads between Manizales and Medellin scares me even more as thats where the majority of roadblock kidnappings occur.

To travel to Colombia if your white you need to have good smarts. If your going between cities through jungle roads you want to travel during noontime, I would never, ever under any circumstance drive a country road in Colombia once the sun sets.

I swear 50% of the population works for the cartels wether moving drugs or laundering money, or the guerillas kidnapping and extorting. So outta every 2 people you meet, one of them is most likely involved in illicit activities. Means you gotta watch what the fuck you say around people. Never talk bad about the country cause the people here are extremely passionate of their land and will literally kill a gringo if they hear you badmouthing it.

Drugs are cheap as fuck, im talking $1 grams of cocaine, and heroin/opium is pretty prevelant as well, and cheap. Cost of living is cheap as fuck actually. You can get 3 story 5000 sq ft mansions for 250k USD, a house that in the USA would cost you over 10 million. Having $10 US in Colombia is like having $100 US in the USA, in terms of buying power it will have there.

Violence is outrageous. This sums Colombia up pretty damn good;

"Colombia, where daily life has devastating consequences: 30,000 murders per year; seventy-five political assassinations per week; ten kidnappings a day. As the conflict gets bloodier, international pressure and influence mounts: Worried about the FARC's strength and its role in the drug trade, the United States has recently sent close to two billion dollars in aid to help the Colombian government fight FARC."

But on plus sides, incredibly beautiful country, and the woman, oh man the woman, thats what its all about, olive skin and plump asses.

We dont have a ghetto. Although the somalian and sudanese immigrants are doing their best to turn it into one.

That's bullshit....African refugees are mainly in the Flemington/Kensington towers...The quietest Commision towers in Melbourne.Collingwood is white dominant and i find those towers the worst(I had my cheekbone fractured with a handgun there...fun times).
Housing commision towers are the main places to score H in Melbs, but if your not part of the "scene",you won't be bothered. There might be alot of drugs openly sold but they aren't ghettos.

For those that don't know the towers are 20 story low income housing scattered around Melb's...mostly innercity.Sometimes it's one tower(about 2000 people) and sometimes there is up to eight towers!!!! on one estate!8o

LMFAO!!!! ahahahhahaaaaa. Im actually laughin my ass off out loud as im tryin this.

EIGHT!!!!

LOL. come to america, theres a damn lot more than eight towers lol. that shits tiny compared to some of the PJ's here =P

and it aint like the "badness" of a project is measured by how many buildings there is, but just that becaue theres so many of them here, maybe in australia its like "whoo the projects its a huge apartment thats low income" and 2 or 3 complexes in a city here theres 500000000 of em is all.

i beg to differ. I live in Newburgh, NY and it was mentioned before that there is a definite "ghetto" here. granted there is also a nice part of the area, but a good portion isn't exactly the place that you would want to be....

no doubt BBK and LK is running that shit lately from what i heard newburgh is definately growin as a hood of its own

Perth doesn't really have a Bronx per se, but we do have some pretty fucken shady areas that you don't go to unless you're from around there.

One night, while waiting for a friend in said area, me and the chick I was with were accosted by a bunch of thugs, not that we were actually doing anything other than sitting in a car outside a petrol station, but they came up and started crapping on about this being their turf and we didn't belong here and shit. Fucken Bronxites...
