I lived in Philly for two years, and I'm in the process of trying to move back right now. Jim's is still there...I have to agree with you, their cheesteakes are ALOT better than either Pat's or Geno's.
Haha yeah, South Street is pretty ghetto...I've scored weed there a few times from random guys walking by. The street is definetly not what it used to be.
I love North Philly too actually. The Puerto Rican neighborhoods in the north east in particular. They're just so lively and interesting...oh, and the dope is excellent. haha. but yeah, I've definetly just hung out there from time to time...you meet all sorts of interesting characters doing that. Gotta love the convenience of those el stops.

I was referring to the Starbucks on South St I'm not sure if that's still there.Shit, I feel like going to Jim's soon, and the weather is starting to get nice... Yeah, I'm talking about the PR neighborhoods too by the way.

Most dangerous city? Ranking says Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. - For the second year in a row, this destitute city has been named the nation’s most dangerous, according to a company’s annual ranking based on crime statistics.

Last year, the distinction seemed to hurt city boosters’ feelings more than it harmed revitalization efforts. This time, city leaders are offended by the ranking, calling it unfair.

“We’re doing so many nice things now. It’s unfortunate that somebody always wants to bad-mouth Camden,” Mayor Gwendolyn Faison said.

The city took the top spot last year from Detroit, which remained No. 2 in the most dangerous city rankings, to be released Monday by Morgan Quitno Press. The Lawrence, Kan.-based company publishes “City Crime Rankings,” an annual reference book.

Camden, a former industrial city across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, is known for a history of corrupt politicians, drug-dealing and murders. It has been among the top 10 in the most dangerous city rankings in each of the eight years Morgan Quitno released them. By most measures, it is also among the nation’s poorest.

Downtown investments
New Jersey has poured $175 million into the city to spur development projects and take over parts of its government, the city’s aquarium doubled in size and a new library and technology center were built. Tourism continues to increase along the river, home to the aquarium, an amphitheater, a minor-league baseball park and a retired battleship.

But about 100 fewer prospective students than expected attended Rutgers University’s downtown campus last year, something Provost Roger Dennis attributes to the crime ranking and a serial rapist who assaulted women near and on campus last fall.

Police are now using computers to try to track crime trends, and more officers are patrolling the city’s neighborhoods.

Authorities say that has helped drive down the most serious crimes by 18 percent in the first 10 months of 2005 compared with the same period a year earlier.

Some residents say their neighborhoods feel a bit safer.

“I haven’t heard that many gunshots,” said Gracy Muniz, 22, a mother of three who lives in North Camden.

Critics note that Morgan Quitno’s ranking is based on data from last year, when the city of 80,000 averaged a murder a week. Murders from January through October were down by 45 percent compared with the same period in 2004.

Top 10 lists
Scott Morgan, president of Morgan Quitno, said Friday that while the numbers may not be perfect, they are one of the only ways to compare crime in different cities. Below are the top 10 lists compiled by the publisher.

1. Camden, N.J.

3. St. Louis
4. Flint, Mich.

true that, but none the less, i have been to camden, and i would still rather walk around there than detroit.... oh shit flint is in the top 10 too huh.

top 5 actually, way to represent michigan!

Copenhagen, DK.

We dont have any ghetto's, we have low income housing projects in the outskirts of the city, where mostly only immigrants live that run around stabbing each other on a daily basis. The area next to the central station is probably the dodgiest, that's where all the drugs are sold and all the drug addicts and prostitutes hang out 24x7. I've seen people getting beat up and rolled there but if you mind your business your straight..i've been coming there since i was a kid and i've never really been bothered...worst i experienced was being sold bunk shit and almost getting stabbed cause two dealers where fighting over me and my friends money.

Haha Flint? My grandparents live in Grand Rapids, pretty close to Flint. It seems so nice out there I would've never expected Flint to be in the top 5. But then again I haven't been in Flint in a while.

I see Detroit is still one of the worst. Big surprise

I proudly represent Michigan and all it's ghettos. =D

well pittsbrugh dont have bad people i mean in some parts yes its bad but you will have that in any city its just the cops you gotta worrie about....and when drug sales and use goes up so do the cops

... so at least here, they really don't have any right to bitch or complain about conditions. The only thing I can think of is that they just enjoy/like/ or are genuinely content beeing where they are at.

it is unfair to say that the families living in the ghetto are genuinely content with living there, and I think it is flat out absurd to assume that they enjoy living there. if you could shed some light on that topic, as well as your statement on low-income housing hoods being economically equal to other surrounding hoods, that would help me out.

I'll tell you why I don't agree with hood rats being content about their situation. why do you think so many homies are working the blocks slingin' product? why do you think every female you see is wearing a mini-skirt and always asking you if you wanna go out for a date? they are trying to make money so they can move out of the hood.

also, think about the other people who live in the ghetto. the normal people who could be your mom, dad, aunt, or uncle. people with families and who work shitty working class jobs or live off of that 1st of the month check. they don't want to live where they do. they want their kids to grow up in the safest area possible. obviously, you have not seen the decadent severity of the hood.

really people i dont know when it became cool to live in shithole USA i know im fucking glad i dont live in a getto and 1/2 of the ppl that posted on here prolly dont even know what a fucking getto is and would prob get shot tryin to cop your drugs in the city....im guess most of you havent been to a city where there are bad "hoods" bc its not pretty its really fucking sad and for people to just sit on there ass in there nice homes all warm and safe and talk about something you havent even seen and if you did im sure it was from a car and the doors were locked....its not cool its not fun its fuckign sad that people have to live like that for the rest of the world to look down on and brag about

Location: Burlington, Vermont

There is no ghetto to speak of in this tiny city. It is like in the top 5 in most liveable cities.
The north end is the shadiest part of town, and it isn't scary at all. This makes it very difficult to cop anything. You either need to know someone personally or you have to travel. Because there are no hoppers on the corners.:(

sonofabitch...
i could have swore i just saw a report on the news like last month about that

c'mon b-more lets get some more kills in huh?
hahahaha

I'm going to try to ask without stepping on your toes. You really wear a vest and bring a gun with you to score? I'd think that would bring about more problems. My sweet home Chi-town not that bad. If you get robbed buying dope it's usually by fists.

I just wouldn't bring a gun so you don't catch more charges if the task force and whatever is out that day. I was in Chicago yesterday and my friend dipped into an alley to spark a blunt, and I saw the huge task force police van parked right down the street. Guns are perfect if you're in the suburbs and need some protection, since you can get them for like $50 if you don't mind them having a few heads on them, but bringing them to the ghetto (unless you're black) is asking for trouble.

^^^

Yeah but what if you got caught with one? Also if you use it to "scare" someone and get caught that a sure fire way for an assualt with a deadly weapon charge

Seriously, I still love baltimore despite all that bullshit. Although I'm trying desperately to get out, it will always be my homebase

Detroit

I live about a half mile from Detroit. I am sure you are all aware of the famous road 8 mile. Which is the borderline between Detroit and the suburbs. The area I live in, isnt really ghetto, its more, white trash. I have been to the ghetto, more times than I would like to admit in order to score some drugs. I have also been robbed at gunpoint, and ripped off numerous times. Now that I am older, I have found more reliant, more trustworthy dealers that live in the suburbs. Detroit is pretty ghetto. We dont really have gangs here, but there is a mountain of abandoned house, dog fighting rings, your normal ghetto porch monkeys, and of course prostitution is huge here. I will go almost anywhere in Detroit, except "Cass Cordidor". I have been down it once, and it was scary, I mean, really scary. People yelling at us "white kids" telling us to get the fuck out of there, and blahbalbhalbh, guys coming up to our car...everything...

When I was younger, I had no problem going to the ghetto to get my supply of drugs...these days, I think twice. Man, the things you do when you are young and dumb ;)
