^ other than seeing a lump or redness or any sign of a miss..
it depends on what it is that you're IVing.. if it's something with a rush it would be easy to know if you got it in a vein because you would feel a rush, if you missed it would be a slower onset and the rush (if you even get one) would be more subtle.
but if it's something without a rush.. you pretty much have to go by how long it takes to get the effect from the drug. so if one shot you get high in 1-3minutes and later in the day your next shot gets you high in 10-20minutes you probably missed some or most of it.

Anyone else in NJ have any better ideas for getting a set? Im not sure about NY and PA laws i have looked but haven't found much. That was a while ago so before this post gets to big im gonna go google that.

there is an exchange in paterson where you can get like 30-50 sets at a time for free and anonymously

I am not trying to derail and harm prevention facts, but i own a microscope and the pictures of the used needles are without a doubt exaggerated. Taking into account the set they used may have been of severely sub-par quality. I examined a standard BD insulin syringe under my microscope and after 10 uses it was still substantially less "hooked" or damaged then the picture shown for 6 uses. I feel like it would have taken another 5 to 10 uses to be that damaged, but i would rather not use one on myself that many times considering i am not a chronic IV drug user and don't "need" to use a kit that many times. At least for now. My buddy who has a corrupt psychiatrist that gave him a prescription for insulin syringes for IV drug use recently ODed (a few days after he got that scrip, go figure) and is moving down to florida to go to rehab and live with his dad. which means once he is gone my only way of getting a new set is to get someone going to the hood to buy one for me, since i live in New Jersey. 8) Anyone else in NJ have any better ideas for getting a set? Thats at least the 6th person i know going to florida for rehab.. why does everyone go there?

Go to a needle exchange? There has to be one in New Jersey, surely.

Or buy a box of 100 online.

ive seen some people get some decent size bruses off just a shot. some people are more prone to brusing then others. if it doesnt really hurt more then a normal bruse i wouldnt really worry about it.

Hey Darkz you still out there?

My worst case scenario from what you describe is blood poisoning - the line down your vein towards your heart, that is getting longer, is a classic symptom.

If this is the case - it's extrememly serious and needs medical attention.

Of course it might just be a bruise and you don't need to stress - but be alert for other symptoms of infection - fever, chills, pain etc

Let me get this straight. You stab yourself with a needle and are surprised your skin bruises under neath? Hah.

Did I hit a vein? Please help

Hey I just shot into my upper right forearm kinda halfway down when you turn it over there is a large vein going wrapping around the left of your right arm. I was told that this was okay to shoot it but the blood that filled the syringe was brighter than usual but there was no pain or burn. This is a vein right? If not I should probably seek medical attention soon.

Once the needle is in the skin, pull back on the plungera bit to create a tiny air pocket, once the vein is peirced a bit of blood will shoot into the rig. At this point you are in the vein. Now if a lot of bright red blood pushes the plunger back you have hit an artery DO NOT shoot, you will usually know because it burns and you won't get the rush, just pain and swelling. Once you are in the vein as described above you can take the plunge (so to speak) there is a huge very informative thread about this UTSE. Have fun and be safe.

yes, the forearm veins are fine to inject into - you would definitely know whether you hit a nerve (intense sharp pain) or artery (sharp pain, burning sensation when injected and swelling) from the intense pains associated.

is there any swelling or redness at the injection site? could you elaborate a bit more?

if there is i would apply a hot compress for 20mins to help the missed shot absorb and reduce the swelling, redness and possible bruising. have a read through here on how to treat missed shots.

Nope I think I was just being super paranoid for a second there cuz the bright blood scared me for a second but theres no redness or swelling and it looks just like a normal dope shot...thanks for clearing that up guys thought I was in a load of trouble for a second there.

I woulda used the search engine but that takes real long to go through and I kinda needed an answer quick. You can lock this post up now if you want mods, false alarm thank god.

That is common when you are dehydrated. I suggest drinking plenty of water before and after injecting.

Was there any pain? Inflammation in the extremities?

There was a lil pain about halfway through but that was prolly because the needle moved and I had to reposition it in the vein to get the rest in but it's all good.. there was just a little bit of minor inflamation prolly from moving out of the vein shortly but its lookin fine now.

Thanks all for replying so quickly.

does anyone have any special techniques for hitting these rolling veins? I have this really huge one that comes down my wrist from the side of my thumb that looks so giving, but I just absolutely cannot hit it! I've tried excercise, hot baths, tourniquets, it's just a bitch. I know that once in the past I managed to get it, but I had to tie like, a shirt sleeve into a tight knot around my wrist, and I'm sure that's not healthy..

Anyway, if anyone's got any advice, please share. I'm starting to feel that the once in the crook of my elbow are giving out, and I want to give them a break, but the only other place I can hit is in my bicep.
