Sounds like you missed some shots which would make it swollen (especially if there was a shitty cut in it) and the coke sitting inside under your skin is causing some numbness.. Or like someone else said, maybe you hit an artery.. I would deff get it checked out. :\

I've been in a situation before when I had to go to the hospital for something similar. I had been shooting coke all day and night, and I couldn't hit anymore veins. I had a tie around my arm for so long that the blood coagulated and one of my veins got really fucked up. On top of that I had been using an old rig like a moron and I got all infected too.

I live in New York, and when I went to the hospital, they did not call the cops, and I did not get into any sort of trouble. It's a real good thing I went too.

The way I see it, you shouldn't really deprive yourself of help if you think you might get in trouble. Getting arrested will not be as bad as losing a limb, and man I've seen people trying to inject into their stubs, its not pretty.

Good advice.

I think the OP either missed shots, or hit an artery. Either way, swelling and pain is the last thing you want to experience when IVing.

I would also urge the OP visit the ER.

When I IV'd for the first time I used a really shallow angle. Is this because it increases the margin of error for IV'ing, as opposed to using a more acute angle? Why do they say do this, just curious.

It's because when you get the needle in the vein, you want more "room for error" as you brought up; you want room for the needle so that if it "slips in" a little bit, it won't puncture through the other side of the vein, which would cause more vein damage, more of a pinch in the vein (which will lead to thrombosis quicker if you're an every day IV user).

With a steep angle, you can get it in as well, but if you "Slip in" too far, it might puncture through the back, hence why a shallow angle is preferable.

You basically have the right idea.
 
I just want to personally thank this thread for making my technique a lot better. I've been I.V'ing for a little over 3 years, and no one really ever showed me how to properly hit a vein. I had kind of gotten the hang of it, but I was constantly slipping through, which really does sometimes leave bruises, and also wastes some of the shots, as well as lead to worse thing.

To be honest, I always thought harm reduction was kind of bullshit, but I'm really starting to see the light here, its a nice board, because you obviously cant ask your mother these kind of questions.
 
hm think I just did something potentially dumb. I just found an old cooker that had a lot of residue, and a bag that had a quarter of its contents still stuck to the wax. I scraped it all off, through it in the cooker, and shot it up. My question, this cooker was probably two months old, do you think I just shot up a bunch of bacteria?

no question about it, yes you did! and there's no way to say if it could be ignored, blood infection is really really bad! i would go and se a doctor right away!
 
Missed Shot of Heroin - Swollen Hand and Rash

i missed a shot of black tar heroin and it burned like my hand was on fire. i registered and everything. my hand is now swelling but not very much and i have a mild rash. i've shot this dope the last week and this has never happened. I stoped the shot after i shot about 10 units. Should i be worried or should i go to the hospital? I am not new to IV and this is the first time in 2 years of IV this has happened. I dont think its to serious but i would like to know what went wrong. maybe i hit an artery? Thanks in advance and hello everyone. this is my first post. I did use the search engine and i didnt find anything that was very comparable to this so please dont tell me to UTFSE. cuz i did
 
fuck. its not hurting anymore and the rash is decreasing. i didnt inject the whole 50 units i maybe did 10. you are 100% sure? if so i will take your advice
 
i can also still move my fingers fine and i dont feel a burn at all. do you think i will be safe going in the morning? i have no ride to the ER and i cant have cops comming to my house. if worse comes to worse ill get a friend to take me. thank you so much for replying fast though
 
Still a little concerned. swelling stoped but i still have a rash. I think im gonna go to the hospital tomorrow morning. there is no way i can have an ambulance come to my house. my brother is on probation and i have enough dope to put me in prison plus im on informal probation. but if more than one person thinks its the best idea i will try and get a ride right this minute
 
Draw around the swelling with a marker or something, and keep an eye on it. If it grows or anything, then get to hospital... I hate giving advice in situations like this, you may have hit an artery or something if your hand is swelling? Where did you do the shot? When you registered what did the blood look like?
 
the blood looked dark but i didnt really pay attention, which is very stupid i know. i shot in my wrist because i was giving my forearm a break. im gonna mark it right now and go to the hospital right in the morning. thank you so much for the quick replies
 
Usually arterial blood is bright red and frothy. You may have just missed, still there can be complications from this. Keep an eye on it and if it seems to get worse, seek some kinda help.
