just an fyi for yall cuz i couldnt find a more appropriate place for it:

dont use a dirty sock to stymie blood flow after injecting, even if you're bleeding all over yourself. i did that the other night and my arm got infected and theres been pus coming out of the injection site for the last two mornings, kinda gross, hopefully the shit goes away

I'm going to move this to the injection complication mega thread. We typically post stuff like this in that thread, so that you don't have to make your own thread. :)

If you felt like you needed to make your own thread, that's OK, but it'll eventually get merged.

Sounds somewhat like a missed shot and/or a histamine reaction more than an artery shot; I don't think you need medical assistance unless you experience pain or inflammation beyond 2-3 days.

8o gross! You need to get medial assistance if it's inflamed and there's the presence of pus.

It's imperative you use a clean piece of cotton or toilet paper after injecting, next time you're going to IV.

Im guessing it all turned out fine, considering the OP hasn't posted in a couple days. Either that or they died...which is severely unlikely.

Ive been told by an IV using female of 2 years that when she misses a shot in her hand, it gets all swollen and a slight rash like you described and takes a few hours to go away.

I personally wouldn't risk it, but its definitely either a miss or an artery shot. (or a missed artery shot! 8o)

everything turned out ok. the rash and swelling went completley down and my hand is back to normal. I only IV'd maybe 4 units and i think if i did more it would be a worse situation. thank you all so much for the help!:)

I am not trying to derail and harm prevention facts, but i own a microscope and the pictures of the used needles are without a doubt exaggerated. Taking into account the set they used may have been of severely sub-par quality. I examined a standard BD insulin syringe under my microscope and after 10 uses it was still substantially less "hooked" or damaged then the picture shown for 6 uses. I feel like it would have taken another 5 to 10 uses to be that damaged, but i would rather not use one on myself that many times considering i am not a chronic IV drug user and don't "need" to use a kit that many times. At least for now. My buddy who has a corrupt psychiatrist that gave him a prescription for insulin syringes for IV drug use recently ODed (a few days after he got that scrip, go figure) and is moving down to florida to go to rehab and live with his dad. which means once he is gone my only way of getting a new set is to get someone going to the hood to buy one for me, since i live in New Jersey. 8) Anyone else in NJ have any better ideas for getting a set? Im not sure about NY and PA laws i have looked but haven't found much. That was a while ago so before this post gets to big im gonna go google that.

Thats at least the 6th person i know going to florida for rehab.. why does everyone go there?

Cuz florida's the shit mane =D

I've successfully abstained from IV'ing dilaudid for 5 days after using daily for 5 days. I gotta say I'm liking not getting addicted. I wonder how long before I just end up as a full blown junkie again.

Is 5 days enough for your veins to properly "heal" anything? I was using 31g syringes and filtering the dillies as best I could without a micron filter. Only thing I have is this fading bruise on my right arm, but it doesn't hurt or anything, it's just a dark spot.

something strange happened to me a couple nights ago when I was shooting up coke.first five or so shots, I was getting the usual rush. (a little crappier possibly, it wasn't great coke). Anyway, when I stuck the needle in for the sixth shot, I regestered and injected. No rush. I tried this a couple more times, same thing. I also made sure that I was in the vein because I pulled back a little after the substance was injected. For the last shot, I tried a different vein, and sure enough, I got the rush. It's been a few days and there hasn't been any real damage to my veins as I have I.V'd since them and gotten good results after a brief break, but does anyone know why this happend?

bruise along vein

i shot up in the crook of my arm with a needle i used about 2 other times. (i know its bad). basically the shot went fine didnt miss any etc. but now there is a bruise along my vein...well idk if its along my vein actually but its a long and skinny bruise that i think has gotten longer but its probably just me tripping. this isnt anything to worry about right?

the only reason im posting a new thread is because im wondering why it went along my vein...it seems kinda weird. i tryed using the search engine but nothing matched. any help will do. thanks!

That's common when you're injecting in one vein most of the time, little bruises will collect and become a line of bruises, especially on veins that bruise easily.

If there is no inflammation, no pain, no discoloration, and no missing vein all of the sudden, you should be fine. Bruising is natural when blood stains the skin.

Is this reassuring enough for you? Do you mind if I close this, or would you like me to send it to the injection complications mega thread?

I find that applying pressure to the injection site (for around 30 seconds) tends to curb bruising unless your really abusing a vein, then bruising is unavoidable, rotate injection sites is the only advice I can give or at least take a break. And don't re-use needles.

do most people here shoot with a tourniquet? I always did for a couple years but recently with my improved technique (thank you Bluelight!) I can do it easily without one, and my arms look like they were sculpted by michalangelo!!
