It's very hard to do opiates regularly and not get addicted. I'm sure a lot of those people who answered that they aren't addicted actually are addicts. I'm not saying it's impossible to avoid becoming an addict. It's also possible to play real life Frogger and run across a major road, but it's not that bright.

I think a lot of them might be opiate addicts in the making. I was in that category for a while, prided myself on how I was handling an addictive substance and only using occasionally.

been using for roughly 4 years. used ALOT of tramadol and codeine, been thru a fair few box's of oxycontin20s and done heroin a bit, morphine and dihydrocodeine as well but to a lesser extent. ive never experianced withdrawl symptons, i think its the needle that makes it so addictive.

Same with me. I would dabble in various drugs but didn't have a steady connect except for weed. Once I found some great connections, things just went down.

I've met people that spent well over $300 dollars on drugs each day. Some of them were just people with money that didn't give a fuck how much their drug of choice cost. I think one woman in rehab was in an escort service.

I fell into that category. Believe or not, it's actually really easy! when you are increasing physically dependent on something (*cough*heroin*cough*) and in my case, liked it to combine it with a certain expensive something else (*cough*cocaine*cough*). Sustaining the habit pretty much almost means doing... things...not...good...which may or may not be considered illegal ;).

Dunno about anyone else, but when I was a real junkie my mantra was "Get high or die trying." You don't really give a fuck about life or any part of it, except said drug. This also includes money. "You can always get more...some way" was my quote for that.

^ Same here. All you care about is getting the drugs to get high. It's a horrible feeling realizing that you can't get a hold of any drugs you want.

But it's like fucking Christmas when you finally get them. Wait, I take that back. I have never been that happy on any Christmas, even when I was a kid.

Yes I've tried opiates wayy more than 5 times, from hydrocodone cough syurp. next lortab 10mg, along with norcos. Morphine sulphate 60mgs, next 100mgs, and off to 200mgs. Next few months I messed with Oxycontin I've only had the 80mg's the ''green monsters''.and now I'm on hydromorphone (dilaudids) I go through about 10 4mg's a day over the course of the entire day. Yeah I hate it, I'm hooked.

ADDICTION VS. PHYSICAL DEPENDENCE

Most people do not know the difference between addiction and physical dependence. I think many believe that they must be physically reliant on opiates/opioids in order to be addicted, which is not true. If used illicitly people can become addicted long before they require the drug to function normally (or function at all). Addiction can occur without dependence ( think people who get cravings but don't everyday) and dependence can occur without addiction (anyone properly using opioids prescribed by a doctor).

Fortunately, I knew the difference. Unfortunately, I denied the truth. Good luck to the Other Drug crew.

My choice was: 3. Yes I have tried opiates more than 5 times and gotten addicted

I am prescribed both Tramadol and Codeine for a chronic back injury and couldn't imagine a life without any opiates to help me function normally. Compared to other opiate users here on this forum my habit is nothing but here in this country getting MS/OxyContin or dope is virtually impossible unless you are in serious pain or have certain diseases (or good connections in the case of dope). There's lots of crack around though. :| :\

I had the pleasure of trying Morphine and OxyContin as well as Kratom though, some good memories there. =D Time to get me some Kratom again for the holidays. :)

Peace o/

You should devote your brain to science, people like you could help other addict prone people.

Do you happen to also be generally very happy and motivated?

Yeah, I think a big reason I haven't become addicted is that I don't let my drug activities interfere with shit I believe I *have* to be doing, (music/work...which are nearly one in the same).

I am generally happy these days....it's taken me a few years to get to this point, but I did have a fairly depressive mindframe for years, until I was 23 or so...

But if I weren't motivated to move forward constantly, I'd be stuck in the same situation and that's scarier to me than addiction.

At the same time though, I just get a point where I don't want to be fucked up on anything anymore and just stop.

What changed you, any life style changes? sounds like me, so I'd love to hear your story if theres any advice I can take from it.

I find opiates lovely, moreish. But not addictive, like tranquilizers. Morphine/Heroin are probably the most most seductive opiates I've had an infatuation for. Indeed, it's a sad feeling to have opiates withdrawn from you, but I personally find other things far more addictive/needy/dependance producing.
Temazepam/Valium (yum)
Music
Soda
Chocolate shakes
Masturbation

Actually, Ketamine is far more addictive to my brain than opiates usually.

My habitual use of opiates started with hydrocodone, which I had a prescription for numerous times for kidney stone pain. When the prescriptions weren't enough, I'd go out and buy oxycodone, hydromorphone, morphine, methadone, etc. I have experienced physical dependence quite a few times, with some pretty horrid withdrawals. I have yet to try H, although it will probably eventually happen. I am not currently taking opiates regularly, but take benzos everyday for anxiety.

been fucking with opiates on/off for about 3-4 years now. Started with oxy, then very moderate amounts of heroin. Recently I got a good dope hook up and started using weekly (daily alot of times with 3-4 day breaks, then daily for like 2 weeks.) Stopped using all opiates right now and am letting myself clean out for about a month. I would consider it a addiction but not physical because I always stop before it gets out of hand. Except for the last time with the dope I've never had any sort of withdrawal aside from depression.

I do opiates occasionally and have yet to find myself addicted. I've tried many powerful opiates, and even IV'd, but so far so good.
