🌟🌟 Social 🌟🌟 Gibberings ver. CCXIX - "what's new, c*nty chops?"

That takes the piss. Must admit I've been in Tescos totally hammered and not had any problems buying booze, but they give me the third degree when I try to buy co-codamol from their pharmacy.

Anywhere else, its the usual three statements:

Are they for yourself?
Have you had them before?
No more than three days use.

But these cunts go on to ask what I want them for and what symptoms I'm suffering with.
Yeah and have you tried ibuprofen and paracetamol first?

Fuck off. Like your 8mg ccs are gonna make much of a difference anyway...

Next time, try saying that Muhammad was a war mongering paedophile bum bandit.

Now give me some beer!! ;)
I'm already going to Islamic Hell for acknowledging the fact that there's no contemporary historical accounts of Jesus and the gospels are full of historical errors. Even Pope Benedict said that.

But because an Arab guy hundreds of years down the line has a 'revelation' it must be true.

@Bleaney You'll know my locality, but I'm lucky to be almost in the Heatons and the only takeaways are across the road, though we do have a halal butchers few doors down

The communal recycle bins are mostly okay, but when shit gets dumped it really does get dumped
Those drums of cooking oil especially.

They probably smelled alcohol on you and made a judgement call. Once they've refused a sale they have to stand by it no point trying to argue with them.

It's annoying, as is still occasionally being ID'd in my mid to late 30s but it is what it is. They're just doing their job, or doing their best.

If they smelt alcohol (beer) that was drunk several hours before brushing my teeth, then they have a remarkable sense of smell.

Yes, they're doing their job. Of being an officious fucking moron.

I had a rough idea where you live, although I didn't know you were so close to the hip and trendy, and prosperous, Heatons.

I can't keep up with the M.E.N. constantly trying to keep hyping up areas of Greater Manchester, with Stockport especially featuring strongly of late, with constant articles about the Heatons and other parts of Stockport being hyped as the New Didsbury, New Chorlton, or the New Berlin?! Which always strikes me as completely absurd. Yeah there may be a bit of a buzz about the area, and it's got some 'cool' independent shops and bars in the underbanks etc, and it is attractive, and things are definitely improving along many stretches of the A6 corridor. But why 'The New Berlin'? Does the comparison have anything valid about it at all?

I was mainly talking about the back alleys of residential terraced streets being plagued by fly tipping, in areas like Rusholme and Longsight, where large parts are in an appalling state, but when the takeaways are also guilty then shit gets serious. Vermin problems etc.

The councils should clamp down hard on businesses doing this kind of thing.

The New Berlin. I just couldn't believe that. They have a nice bus station and that's about it.

That shit's not gonna hit the target, honey.
Not playing devil's advocate to be a dick just trying to see both sides is all. I've worked pubs bars restaurants etc my entire career nearly 20 years and sometimes you have to make a call and decline a sale that later on reflection you may decide you didn't need to but once you've made that call you can't backpedal regardless of the rational (or otherwise) case the customer may make.

Declining an alcohol sale isn't a pleasant thing to do more often than not results in unpleasant confrontations we could all do without. It would be a lot easier if you could just abandon due diligence but retail and bar staff are generally trained to err on the side of caution if unsure because that's the safest bet for the licencee, as is backing up their staff when they make that call.

And yeah, it is frustrating when you know you're not pissed and not a risk to yourself or anyone else (or when you're trying to buy smokes on your break and you've left your wallet at work, ugh) but it is what it is; red tape, due diligence, the minefield of potential fines and local council bullshit you have to deal with as a licencee in 2025.

Just to confirm that a number of posts have been edited or removed. You know why. Generalising about entire populations based on the actions of a subset of them is virtually a textbook definition of racism.

Given it was mostly just anecdotal theorising I’ve issued no warnings but be in no doubt similar posts that cross the line will result in warnings.

That aside, that’s fukkin crazy, Perkins! I’ve literally been so fukked on geeb and ketamine I couldn’t fathom money whilst buying vodka before. Just had to proffer a handful of money and hope for the best 😃

Hey, I'm genuinely seeking further clarification on this, rather than trying to argue the toss. And I hope it goes without saying that it's about the policy, and not a personal issue with you.

So with my posts that got removed, if I'd added or began with some kind of clearly defined caveat along the lines of, 'I'm not generalising about the entire Muslim population of these areas, as I would imagine the problems I refer to are based on the actions of a minority of that population, which are unfortunately creating a bad impression of the areas as a whole' and then carried on to say '......but, the areas which are most densely populated by these populations have been documented to seemingly have the worst problems in the area for fly tipping', would my posts have been allowed to stand?

It was poor form and slack of me to use the embarrassingly clichéd old "I'm not being racist, but......" line, without further clarification, and maybe I was subconsciously testing these newish waters. We've all got to be up to speed with these now, as to how exactly things need to be stated, not only to avoid online censorship, but also to avoid causing offense, or coming across as ignorant, bigoted, or just not keeping up with things, in everyday conversation.

I tried to stay out of that conversation because it did skirt dodginess but what you said above is something that is often repeated locally, and in my experience sadly true.

The Underbanks does seem genuinely interesting and unique though to be fair. Historic unaltered attractive streets, that might be more appropriately compared to York, even if that would also be massively over flattering, with many independent businesses, a bit of an arty vibe, and a lack of those awful chain stores and identikit looking town centres. (Although the main indoor shopping precinct and immediate retail 'high street' surrounds is exactly that.) And The Heatons do seem to have a buzz about them as I already mentioned. Maybe that's what the local media is on about, I'm really not sure.
