Then why is its extremely similar in effects chemical cousin (Ritalin) widely prescribed in clinical dosages worldwide whereas meth and coke aren't?
Must be some reason why that choice has been made in the past.
Coke doesn't last long enough, meth lasts too long?
You make a good point though. Probably something to to do with the stigma against those two drugs, and the abuse potential also....I could abuse coke and meth for days whereas the thought of doing that with ritalin makes me feel a little sick.
Meth (as desoxyn) is available on prescription in the US.
Instinct isn't really the best thing to go off when choosing what drugs to use at what dosages anyway. Maybe it's just my sensitivity to the negative norepinephrine-related effects I seem to get with ritalin and it's friends. Feels like such dirty stimulation to me, compared to the amphetamine class which make me relaxed and feel 'right'.
I guess all stimulants are potentially very dangerous if you have a heart condition

(even at therapeutic doses)
My craving for stimulants has risen massively since coming off opiates. I've got probably 5 grams of ethyl sitting here and I'll likely end up still have it in 3 years...or I'll end up flushing it.
Wouldn't mind trying dexmethylphenidate, have heard it has less of the physical stimulation related side effects. Lisdexamfetamine also interests me as something that's a bit smoother than dex and not quite as euphoric. Would be surprised if we don't have these meds approved here in the next few years.
Funny story - I looked into getting some extended release dexamphetamine made up by a compounding pharmacy. The lady did some research for me and said it's much more effective made up with pure dexamphetamine powder rather than the crushed up 5mg tablets...and proceeded to quote me on a 10KG tub of dexamphetamine! She said since not many people use it, that I'd have to pay for the raw ingredient and the smallest amount they could get was 10kg tubs

lol It was a few thousand if I remember correctly, said they'd go halves with me and I'd need a private script.... unfortunately didn't have the money available to try out something that might not even work well. Can report that slow release tablets made from crushed up standard release tablets don't work well at all...I needed like 3x the dose.
Don't know why Dexedrine Spansule's aren't available here...even if not covered by the PBS, surely they'd still be useful.
Sigh...had a small toke on the pipe from a mate. Sorry for the overly wordy post.
