English Premier League football

^
s'what it all came down to.
One quality striker, two chances, two goals.

Liverpool owned the football for a huge part of that second half and just did not have the cutting edge they needed.

Close game though, the Liverpool fans were great after the final whistle - kept right on singing!

Ya kept singing all the way through the night which has to be admired but being a ManU fan im just glad I wont have to be listen to em tomorrow morning in work;). Now the wait for next season begins. The ammount of money Premier League clubs will spend this summer is gonna be crazy. Theres alot of changes ahead.

I fell asleep during the second half...not bothered though, and i don't have much sympathy for Liverpool either, i don't see what's so heartbreaking about losing a competition you won just two years ago. You want to know real dissapointment? Be a Newcastle fan like me. :)

^Inzaghi wasnt interfering with play at the time the ball was played, he then came back onside before making the run on to Kaka's pass.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. But in a way he was part of that play - the ball was passed to Kaka, with Inzaghi as a potential subsequent option.

I find the current offside rule to be quite poorly thought out: if someone doesn't touch the ball, they're considered as not part of the play. But if they make a wide run in an offside position, and pull a defender away from the eventual scorer, then they surely ARE part of the play, even though they don't come near the ball.

But I take your point, and I guess under current rules it was a legitimate goal.

Enjoyed this mornings game a lot more than the FA Cup final on Saturday, a lot more open with much more attacking. Surprised Liverpool played so well and disappointed they couldn't convert that dominance... their closing down of Milan in attack forced a lot of mistakes, at least one of which they should have taken advantage of earlier.

Unfortunately the Champions League Final experience was somewhat ruined by Stan Collymore co-commentating on SBS's coverage... thank goodness I'm getting Foxtel soon so I can have an alternative if he's ever calling again. Was a fan of his as a player but he just talks too much.

I don't think it was nearly as bad as watching Damien Lovelock perform before the FA cup final...that was possibly the most abysmal coverage of any sporting event I have ever seen.

And how funny is the ad for The War of the Worlds which they play during all the breaks.........'An awesome martian fighting machine!'

Well, next season is already shaping up to be an interesting one.

News coming through today is that United have agreed terms with Sporting Lisbon and Porto, to sign Nani and Anderson respectively. Figures being quoted are 34 million pounds (though this is a total price that will include hefty performance elements).

This is a major coup. Nani, I expected. He's constantly said he's wanted to play in the Premiership. It's known that United were chasing him, it was just a matter of agreeing terms (oh, and fending off "competition" from the delusional North London "big club" that were also chasing him :D).

Anderson is more of a coup. He's reportedly attracted interest from Barca and Chelsea. He's just made the Brazil squad for the Copa Americana. And I hadn't heard much at all about him going to United.

Nani is a Portugese international with 5 caps and 1 goal. He mainly plays on the left wing and will be seen as a long term replacement for Giggs. (And hopefully company for Ronaldo).

Anderson is a Brazilian youth international who was player of the tournament at the FIFA World U-17s a few years ago. He's an attacking midfielder who can also play wide or as a striker, and would be a long-term replacement for Scholes.

With the earlier signing of Owen Hargreaves, United look to have a very strong squad indeed.

And with Mourinho stating that Chelsea will concentrate on the Champions League, could United pull off a second title in a row?

Why are we selling Scott Parker???? Good thing the other team i support is West Ham, but still...WHY??????!?!?!?!

WTF IS FERNANDO TORRES???!!

He must come and play in England, preferrably for ManU.

On Pro Evo Soccer 6 on my PS2 he's the best goddamn striker ever... almost better than Pele! Or Cryuff! (Yes I use the classic players because I don't like to lose!!! :o )

So, we're getting excited about how 2 or 3 trophies are possibly shared out between the 2 clubs who are vastly richer than anyone else. This is exciting? Interesting?

Not to me. Sooner it all implodes the better.

I support United. I want to see them win.

And yes, I found the last title race incredibly exciting. Sure, it was a two horse race, but when's the last time that three or more teams have been in contention late in the season? 1996 (Man Utd, Newcastle and Liverpool)? It hasn't happened very often in the past.

That said, Liverpool have got heaps of money to spend, Arsenal have got a great young team coming through, so next season could be quite competitive (especially if Chelsea are concentrating on Europe).

You may have perfectly good reasons for supporting United. EG, maybe you were born in Bournemouth...or New Zealand.

Do you think the supporters of Villa/Birmingham/Derby/Spurs etc want to see their team lose?

Interesting that your knowledge of title races spans all of 10 years. There was football before Murdoch you know. Competitive football. The Premiership is a sick symbol of the growing inequality in Britain and the World where the average wage of a Prem footballer last year was £1 million. Average. That's an awful lot of average Joe's with tennis courts and Lambourghinis. And no chance of silverware (save their precious jewellery). Average wages this year will rise to £2 million.

Do you think this will result in a more competitive league?

Or more tennis courts?

You are welcome to the shallow satisfaction.
