^ It's foul-tasting gunk mainly used to extract money from gullible hippies ;)

In herb garden news, got quite a few basil plants on the windowsill and a bit of coriander (also a few chilli plants). Mixed results so far. Chilli plants seem to be growing steadily but herbs are a bit "leggy" (is that the proper gardening terminology?). Lotsa stalk, not so bushy. Especially the coriander. Basil is a bit better as side branches are starting to become a bit more sizeable so looks like they still might bush out a bit. I'm probably doing it all wrong though cos have done shit all other than put 'em in bigger pots and water 'em a bit. But surely that's all plants need?

Dins tonight consisted of pasta (spirallytwisty pasta for the carb-curious) wiv spicy bolognese sauce. Put fuckloads of fresh Bird's Eye chillies (and some crushed dried ones for good measure) and a bit of cumin and paprika in it, innit. Have become horribly addicted to chillies of late - more so than usual - so always end up with shitloads in stuffs. Am sure it was those Scotch Bonnets wot pushed my tolerance so high. They've not had any in Co-Op here ferra while and Bird's Eyes just don't seem to have anything like as much kick.

coriander is really difficult to grow, it tends to start going to seed very quickly.

I just buy the living ones from the supermarket and plant them in the garden, they soon proliferate.

Ya. These were just live ones from the Co-Op planted out. I think I left 'em too long before repotting really. In fact I think I'd used quite a bit of it before I got around to it. Is only a first attempt so will probably just try again with a bushier specimen.

Dan: No pix cos I still haven't worked out how to get pix from phone to pooter. Technical assistance may be arriving sometime fairly soon though so will do if I get it sorted. Am strangely proud of me lil chilli plants cos those I did grow from seed. Tried last year but must've done summat drastically wrong cos they all died on me :(

Oh yeah, and most of the coriander and the biggest of the basil plants are just starting to flower. Is this a Bad Thing? Am guessing they might just die after that but actually don't know. Greenfingered I ain't.

pinch off the growing tips / flower heads and they will start to branch out sideshoots with more leaves.

pics from phone to pooter, that should be a piece of piss, comon shamby you can work that out

get the beetroot out. ive been eating a jar a day. drug abusing super powers from that shit

^ Ya, you'd think it would be dead easy, Colt. Definitely isn't though. Don't think the phone is set up right and have no idea how it should be set up. Was given me by MamaSham and she said she couldn't ever get it connected to pooter or intrawebz and nor could her more technically proficient younger children. Asked on here too and got plenty advice but none of it worked. As I said, there may just be a solution over the horizon sometime over the next few weeks so watch this space ;)

pinch off the growing tips / flower heads and they will start to branch out sideshoots with more leaves.

Thanks! Will do that now. Had a vague feeling that was what you're supposed to do but didn't want to mutilate my lil babies unnecessarily. Was actually gonna dig up the gardening thread and ask in there. Now I'm a semi-professional gardener and all that :D

EDIT: Done and done. Added 'em to the leftover bolognese sauce. Also, my fingers now fukkin reek of basil oil. Which is rather nice. Have definitely noticed the flavour is waaaaaay more intense now they've started to mature. The oil is literally oozing out of 'em at times <3

Well done on the successful growing Sham :) Stretching or getting too leggy can also be not enough light, make sure your window sill is south facing.

I've got Little Elf and Prairie Fire chillis on the go but I started them late so they may end up under a light.

I tried to germ some basil recently and failed, but was told if you buy the living supermarket stuff, cut the tops off and stick em in water they'll all root and you end up with loads of little plants you can pot on.

Unfortunately there is only one windowsill wot's practical to use for plantings pots in my flat, Ms Wicked. Actually two but both on the same side and not started filling the second one yet. No idea which direction they face but that side of the place gets plenty sun so should be okay. And if not there's not much I can do about it really. Am just pleased (and somewhat amazed) that anything is growing at all given my *ahem* mad gardening skillz :D

Got twelve basil plants from two of the Co-Op pots. Coupla others didn't survive my undoubtedly rough handling when repotting 'em. Should be plenty to keep me going if they bush out nicely. Although I suspect that having access to plenty fresh herbs will just mean I use 'em far more heavily and frequently so am sure I'll end up wanting more once I get a taste for it :)

Dunno which chillies actually sprouted cos I just sprinkled a few seeds from whatever I was using for dins at the time on compost and waited to see what happened. Would have to be Bird's Eyes and/or Scotch Bonnets cos they're the ones I use most often. Vaguely recall using some generic chillies (no strain specified but fairly big, fairly fat, fairly mild jobbies) around the time I was seed-laying and would be a bit gutted if it was those wot grew. Nine sprouted and survived and several others died early on so hopefully get a bit of variety :)

In munching news, bought a multipack of these in Spar t'other day cos were cheap on offer...

Currently munching an Eton Mess one. Is actually very tasty but the lil meringues are waaaaaaaaay too sweet and kinda spoil it. Not tried the apple pie ones yet.

Eton Mess one was lovely, Bogman. But those meringues were fukkin vile beyond belief. My teeth are still hurting. Wish I'd tried 'em first before mixing 'em in. Rest are getting binned and will stick to eating just the yoghurty stuff cos that was tasty. Apple Pie one should be a winner though. I have a minor fetish for "pudding" yoghurts.

ate rice, peas and sweetcorn earlier, tasted wholesome and super cheap. then cheese on toast, ripe stilton and brie. tasted rich and fattening and great :D Then consumed 30mg 3-meo-pcp rectally and I have a chaser of apple and mango laced with etizolam. And I had a skinful of gbl earlier, but that's worn off now.

oh tapenade is one of those great foods that i fell in love with just by looking at the word!
