Cracking speakers.

I don't have a load of wires, just a couple of RCA cables. I'm sure it'll be fine. Going to find out from the other boys that are playing, I'd imagine they'll have a stack of different cables anyway.

Tidy, I have 5" actives, balanced cable runs from audio device to mixer to speakers, proper stands etc, it's just enough to produce with. Awesome for watching films with aswell.

Mine just sit on a chest of drawers, with the S4 controller & a laptop raised on a stand between them. Cheap ass RCA cables running from the S4 to the speakers (they're the powered version). Definitely not making the most of them but fuck it, they still sound amazing & I'll get them set up properly one day.

Been battering away at this for a couple hours now. Still not happy. Just been messing about the now, trying to see what works & what doesn't. Some of this definitely doesn't work & I think Ebeneezer Goode will need to go or I'll get booed lol. I think the Villalobos mix of Sneak will need to go an all, for some reason Ricardo's own productions don't really work when I try to mix them. Easy Lee is one of my favourite tunes but I'm fucked if I attempt to put it in a mix.

Anyone got any suggestions? ie, "Get rid of that, it's pish" or "Swap that for this" etc? Sometimes I find you get a bit too into it & it's hard to tell what's actually going to sound good to other people or not (I also don't want to record anything & send it to my mates, I'd rather they didn't know in advance what I was going to play). Not recorded btw, coz the phone kept ringing during it.

Gonna give it a break for a bit & watch some of the TV I downloaded yesterday.

2001: A Remix

Wasn't going to be a remix but I got lucky with a sample of 2001's theme tune. Same root note and almost the same key as the song I was trying to flesh out. So yeah. Remix.

^Is that Bladerunner I hear or do my ears deceive me? I like that minute, wish it was longer.

New software is a start. Ableton. Reason. Something like that. I'd go with Fruity Loops for ease of use tbh, but you might be better just getting stuck right into one of the more difficult to use ones. I got too used to the ease of Fruity Loops that whenever I've tried to tackle Ableton etc I get sick of it before I've even laid down some decent kick drums.

yea, read the tutorials in ableton. my mate just introduced me to it, he uses it with an akai mpd and it's awesome. good for making live tracks, can make mixes too. i recently got an akai mpkmini and getting the midi working right was a headache. i'm used to reason, which is supposed to feel kinda like a real studio, visually, how you route things and operate it. ableton feels like a totally different concept, not trying to be a studio in a software program. it feels like i understand how the sounds are created, and what everything does, because there are a lot of visual descriptions. i'm slowly getting it. the tutorials are helpful, and there are loads of tuts on youtube etc. ableton works really well with my mates mpd.

new programs are always frustrating to learn to use but it's worth it in the end when you make that first banging loop or whatever.

Ableton is rubbish, the interface is bloody ugly. Avoid reason because of the lack of vst support.

FLStudio is the way to go, with cubase if you are recording vocals/live instruments. Logic is fine but means you have to use a mac which is bullshit.

Anyone ever tried the Korg iMS-20 on the iPad? Just got it there and it's a cracking bit of kit, can store loads of patterns, loads of options to make cool wee sounds. Never used anything like this before so at the moment I'm just making shitty bleeps and patterns, could definitely produce something decent off this though if you stuck at it. Need to learn how to get some 303 on the go.

Next thing for me to get is a decent set of speakers, I honestly don't know whether to get just a decent set for my room or save up and try and get a decent soundsystem on the go, it's a long way till summer and dry outdoors anyway.
