EADD Music Production Thread: Side B

There's at least 2 tracks playing over each other for ages at that point so I'm not sure if you're talking about

Harvey McKay - McGurk Effect

or

Pfirter - The Dub Track (Len Faki Remix)

or something else that isn't written on that tracklist.

I suspect you mean the Len Faki remix, which is an absolute beast %). Some guy's comment on the Youtube video - "This Track Is A Techno Panzer" haha.

Can someone tell me what equipment I need to make hip-hop beats or dance tracks to a high quality I know I need a music programme like Reason etc but do I need a midi keyboard, synthesizer and a drum kit thingy as well or is it possible to make a radio quality tune just using the programme? I remember that one hit wonder track Never be your woman by White Town apparently the chap made it in his bedroom and sent it off to a producer who turned it to a hit. He must have made a tidy profit off it. I wouldn't attempt it just for money I like the idea of making music and am always thinking of cool tunes in my head.

you should do a hip-hop anthem for UKIP.

yeah you can do it with reason. get a cheap usb keyboard controller otherwise you'll be boreed to fuck mapping out the sounds with a keyboard.

if you want more hardware based classic hip hop producing get an akai mpc1000 or mpd16 or something

Damn right first on the agenda will be making a beat for MC Farage's up and coming EU diss track

Cool yeah I think a physical drum machine would be much better. Apparently some programmes are more suited to a specific type of music.
What is difference between keyboard and keyboard controller? I'd be looking to get one that works with computer of course. I thought that was what midi keyboards were like ones that you can link up to your pc?
I had a copy of reason many years back and found all the knobs and twiddly bits kind of overwhelming and hard to understand the function of so I guess if you get a physical synth, drum kit and keyboard it saves fucking around with the mouse as much etc.

well if it was a straight up midi keyboard you couldn't plug it into your computer, unless you had a midi sound card. you'd plug it into another midi device, like a synthesiser. most keyboards are midi/usb, and most people just use the usb into pc, it's faster, and powers the keyboard.

i recommend learning about synthesisers, what ASDR is, what an LFO is, what the different waves do, what a filter does etc there's good information on the internet and youtube.

Ahh I see so keyboard controller it is I think. I'm not very good at this technology lark. Would you recommend getting a physical synthesizer rather than using the onboard reason synth etc? Does it make much difference? I'm on a tight budget so I think I'd probably just get a drum kit and keyboard.
Also if I turn into Dr Dre does it matter if I have a fake version of a music programme or can you release choonage on the copy version? I'd probably just get a copy of a programme at first to play about with then if I get good enough to make money from it, buy the official one just out of respect for the company that has helped me.

I'm sure I once heard a rumour on here that someone paid for a copy of Fruity Loops 8o

Mental.

I actually have a legit copy of Traktor now haha. I never thought that would happen. Get updates without having to go torrent hunting %) I did still get it for free though lol.

Which reminds me, MailMonkey I swear down I will get that Mixtrack posted in the next day or two. Had a bit of a mad one at the weekend.

i'd recommend starting off on the reason one, learning what everything does. i guess it wouldn't make too much difference for a beginner, tho hardware would be more time consuming.

cracked software is fine.

i just did this last night/today on reason. first time i've managed to make a song longer than 1min haha. think the mastering's a bit off, it's not finished, but any comments, even to say it's wank?

Suggestion - Can we change the title to be like Production/DJ thread (or something a bit better than that, you know what I mean). I always feel like I keep posting in the wrong thread, but don't feel the need for a separate one.

Anyway, planning to set up a new account somewhere to upload mixes n shit. I don't want to use my own name, for obvious reasons, but I don't want to just use ptch or some other random shite.

So... embarrassingly enough I've been sitting here trying to come up with some sort of "DJ Name" (feel like a fucking bentshot even typing that haha).

So far the two sniders I've came up with are 'Three-57' (or some variation on that). It's to do with the postcode of a place I grew up. I feel there needs to be some reason for the name, no matter how shit. Sounds like I'm going for .357 as in Magnum though :|. Other one - 'Section 415' as Section 415 of The California Penal Code includes "(2) Any person who maliciously and willfully disturbs another person by loud and unreasonable noise."

Section 415 would make a good name for a label I think, shit name for a cunt that pretends to be a DJ though.

Hahaha, they are both fucking rubbish. How the fuck do cunts figure out decent names that aren't fucking ridiculous or just just DJ *my name*?

all names seem ridiculous until they're actually being used. My pal is 6. He gets called 6. Stupid, but it becomes second nature. I'm fucked off drugs, I have to admit it's nice.

Just spent the afternoon making a tune and have upped it to my soundcloud. Haven't done this in ages.

^whats the link?

i've just got ableton after using reason from the start. recommended by a mate who tears it up on an mpd, i just got an mpkmini. seems good, but am frustrated by having to learn a whole new program and controller.

Basic question. This thing I'm going to be DJing at, they'll have "proper DJs" on as well. As far as I know they're both going to be using Traktor as well but likely off timecode vinyls/cds. So they'll have some sort of standard club mixer (DJM-whatever or someshit). I'll be able to just plug an S4 into a channel using 2 standard RCA cables, aye???

Edit - Oh aye, if it's in the part of this club that I think it is then... Funktion 1 sound system %) Yas! That's going to toe the baws aff the KRKs that I normally play tunes through.
