Direct versus indirect ... isn't this still just odds?

remember what i said about "likely to happen" and "not likely to happen"?

I thought Van didnt even know his plane was stopping in Singapore ... or did I dream that?

'divine intervention'. God wants him to die :D

"No drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for ignorance, greed and love of power."

Apparntly yes.

Just like your lack of compassion will one day bite you in the ass where it hurts the most.

Im sick of arguing with you.

Vans lack of compassion didn't bite him on the arse, but it might sting a little around his neck! ;)

It disgusts me that you are deriving some sort of joy from the thought of a man hanging. Infact, i urge other moderators to think hard about this imbecile having moderator privlidges, being a HARM minimisation site and all.

I think I get it!!!

He isnt actually a real flesh and blood person to you guys.
Right ?

Its like a video game character, an extra on an action film, or some abstract idea about the way the world should work.

He sits in his cell, shivering, sweating, the lump in his throat feeling like its going to choke him.
Everybody has left now, his family in tears, the hungry plague of media, the guards just doing their job.
The lump isnt fear anymore, its just the residue of repeated concussive shocks - you're going to die.
The people out there are going to break your neck with a rope.
It doesnt even mean anything anymore, did it ever?
The idea of death is too large to fit in a human brain, maybe thats why it seemed so easy to get on the plane. It just wasnt real
First time out of Australia, guess my holiday insurance doesnt cover this one.
He stifles a laugh, cos when you start feeling again the tears start.
A laugh isnt worth that much.
Stupid, stupid, stupid ... what if, what if, what if?

Sorry it sounds melodramatic ... but thats my interpretation ... thats why i think its wrong .. fuck the law, fuck circumstance, fuck logic (its overrated anyway)
:(

In my mind if I condone it, then i am the one who goes into his cell, drags him out whilst he balls his eyes out, put a noose around his neck and does the deed.

It would mean a lot to me if you guys said you at least understood :\

x2

i would have thought that regardless of whether you agreed with the sentence, that you could at least show respect for someone's life enough to refrain from posting what are blatantly offensive comments in this thread.

but overestimating idiots has always been my downfall. :(

That is one of the most insightful and utterly abstract posts ive ever seen on bluelight.

Sorry to come so late to this thread. I'm sure this argument has been raised before, but i think it's important to add another voice to the tally:

The death penalty is ineffective as a deterrent, expensive to administer, and utterly inhumane. It is not a useful part of any rational and sane criminal justice system, and as such, should be called by its true name. Murder is murder, state sanctioned or otherwise.

My heart goes out to Van, his family, and all those who have suffered, and continue to suffer through the bizarre conception of 'justice' that the death penalty confers.

I think you need a little perspective on what you're saying Keystroke. You're joking about someone being choked to death with a rope. I can't believe you can't comprehend the problem most people who have a normal empathetic response would have with that.

Step back a second from your dick measuring in this thread and think about exactly what you're saying.

there are jokes about Michael Jackson, Bali 9, Corby, Paedophiles, etc, etc. It's only a matter of time until the Van jokes roll out, so calm down buddy. as I said, if Van wanted to minimise his harm he wouldn't of done it in the first place.

In all honesty, i havent been reading your posts in their entirity.

why should we afford you ANY credibility whatsoever in this thread when you admit that you haven't even been reading the "posts in their entirity [sic]" in this supposed debate? we shouldn't.

and kb since you keep making hyperbolic, rhetorically empty statements and little innuendos about my moderating but have yet to make one concrete statement about it, i'll have to assume that you're full of shit in that regard too.

just because there are jokes about these things doesn't make them tolerable.

THIS GUY'S LIFE IS GOING TO BE TAKEN AWAY DO YOU NOT COMPREHEND???
AND YOU ARE MAKING SICK FUCKING JOKES ABOUT IT?

there is a sick joke thread, go hang out there for the love of god.

Exactly.

I don't understand how anyone can get any sort of enjoyment or appreciation out of someone being murdered. That is effectively what it is - state sanctioned murder. A far worse crime than what was committed in the first place.

Shame on you Singapore - you disgust me.

Based on your reply to my last post.

No one forced Van to smuggle drugs, just as no one forced "the raver" to take what he believed to be ecstasy. the raver made the decision to take an unknown substance, he factored into account the good vs. the bad (feel good for a few hours vs eating an unknown substance, could seriously harm my body) and he went ahead and took it anyway. how is that anyones fault other than his own? the government didn't make him take it, he did it all himself. so it's his fault and his alone.

I'm not disputing any of that, but what you are saying in Nguyen's case is that because of these circumstances and decisions; he deserves to die.

Having applied it to Nguyen, reasonable logic - based on everything you've said in this thread (and I have read every word of every post) - leads to the conclusion that you would exercise an equal lack of sympathy to anyone who takes an illegal drug and dies as a result.

You cannot dispute that this is a fair statement based on everything you have written in this thread... which leads me back to the question I asked of you on page two of this thread that I posted over a month ago.

Oh sure they do.

People make jokes about everything - why not this? are you going to get on that high horse over everything that isnt perfectly politically correct?

and 1234: its more to do with the fact that you blather on incessantly over the most trivial of things that i havent bothered my time to read you fully.

as for my comments regarding your moderating, well, as i stated before: the proof is in the pudding :)

and for the record, slick: i havent at all used rhetoric or hyperbole in regards to your moderating. so you can "sic" any and all the words ive incorrectly spelt all you like :)
