How'd it go Damien?

I got my road test waiver today--going down to the DMV tomorrow to get my license at last. :)

Then the long 7-month wait as I make payments on my first bike. I'll have it in April for the start of the 2009 season--something to really look forward to, though!
 
so what bike are you getting?

and don't talk about 'seasons', you big girl's blouse. you can ride a bike all year round. :p
 
Kaswasaki Vulcan 500. After some looking around it's the most bang for the buck at a time when child support and paying lawyers for acrimonious divorce hearings is taking a front seat. :(

There will be a lot more cash flowing when I buy the sport bike in a couple years.

BTW, the "season" thing is really more to do with NYS registrations all expiring on April 30. I grew up in Buffalo, so riding in January--with or without heated underwear--will be the same as in July as far as I'm concerned, sucka'... ;)

i had a loan of my mate's Yamaha Virago 535 (very similar) when i was learning. i shouldn't have been riding it before i passed my test but it was a great help.
 
Well my "road time" has amounted to about 10 hours in a parking lot. I know me--if I don't get a genuine n00b bike to start with, I'll be pushing daisies within a month... :D

But where I live right now--I'm surrounded by beautiful hills and lakes. It's all so amazing and I can't wait to go on little motorcycle trips a few times a week. A very therapeutic device for my otherwise fucked-up life, lol.

sounds great. same here - we have beautiful beaches and cliffs everywhere as well, and there is no better way to view things that are off the beaten track. you are far more likely to explore places by bike than you are in a car.

what i like to do is stick a 1:25000 map in my tank bag (i.e. one with loads of detail) and just explore (on my own). it's amazing how much you can find on your own doorstep. i regularly find things nearby that just blow me away, and it amazes me that i haven't seen them before after living up here for nearly all my life.

my favourite thing to do is go up abandoned farm tracks & forest trails to see what's at the other end. something that you probably wouldn't do on a sportsbike... so i'm hoping you see sense and get a big trailie instead. ;) they are so versatile, you can do anything and go anywhere with them. they are the fastest growing sector of new bike sales and have been for a couple of years, in the UK at least. :)

they do have looks that only a mother could love, but you can't see them from the rider's seat. and after riding 14000 miles on mine since new (3 years ago), i can't imagine ever selling her. <3
 
Felix, a big trailie is gonna be bike #3. There's lots of off road places around here and you've piqued my interest. :)
 
Great choice of bike tobala! I bet you are just going to love it.

It's been so freaking rainy here that I haven't even had much of a chance to ride. I think I might take the bike into work tomorrow though so save on gas a little bit. That's a HUGE perk of riding for me, 50 miles a gallon on average as opposed to 26 on my car.

I really need to get out more, I just don't enjoy riding on my own as much as I enjoy riding with other people. I need to find more biker friends close by but it sort of sucks living in a rural area as the ways to network are really limited.
 
OH, heh, I thought I posted here. I passed. I put my foot down on each of the tests once and one of them twice but I passed. Just got back from vacation and my license was in the mail waiting. Guess I'm part of the club now. :)
 
I forgot all about this thread, lol. Probably 'cause I've been too busy riding my bike every day I can this summer (which has been almost every day =D).

Anyway, as soon as I get a bit of loot to throw at another bike, I'm thinking about going in with a buddy of mine on a Harley Sportster. He's looking for a bike, but can't afford one himself, so I said I'd split it with him and he can keep it at his place. When I want to borrow it, I'll just ride my GPz550 to his place and swap bikes.

I only have one other friend who has a bike, and we've been going on rides every few weeks from DC/VA up to Gaithersburg, MD.

A bunch of the people I work with have bikes and ride them to work all the time, so I might start riding with them.

Alpinestars 360 one-piece riding suit, which was about half price (£200/$400-ish). it should arrive today. :D

i love getting new motorbike gear, i've spent a ridiculous amount of money on it. :o
 
Day-amm felix, with your booty poppin' through that suit bottom you won't need a bike because your sugar daddy will be drivin' you around town in his Rolls Royce...
 
I need some good riding gear but I need to get some cash together first. It seems as though when you put the word "motorcycle" in the name of apparal or other accessories then the price doubles if not triples. :!
 
i got nearly all my starter gear off ebay, second hand. all top quality stuff for about half price, most of which is still in service 3 years later.
 
That's a good idea. I should definitely check that out! The only problem with that though is that you can't try it on before hand.

I remember looking at leather jackets and the regular ones were like $100/$150 and the "motorcycle" ones were like $300 at the leather shop near my house.
