I remember my dad telling me about a politician in the midwest I want to say (but I'm not 100% sure) that wanted to implement a law that would force motorcyclists to wear seat belts when they rode. Some people are just out of their fucking minds!

"Yes, I'll take my leg BURNT TO A CRISP please" :)

I live in a state where there isn't an existing helmet law and I will still always wear one.

I like my brain kept safe and squishy inside of my skull thank you very much.

I think that it should be kept a personal choice though, I don't agree that there should be laws that require riders to wear helmets if they don't want to. I feel the same way about seat belts for adults as well, it should also be a choice.

I have to disagree. I think motorcycle helmet laws should be in place and enforced. I live in Florida and every other day it seems some idiot ends up with his noggin cracked open on I-95, usually could have been avoided without the helmet.

Although one could argue that allowing people to ride without helmets cleanses the gene pool Darwin Awards-style, my tax dollars pay for the medical services necessary to attend to these idiots and care for them for years when they linger on life support.

As somebody who has crashed more than a few bikes I can say that my feeling is that properly armoured pants and jackets would save more lives than helmets.

A lot of the time the helmet does not even get touched in a crash and pelvic area, rib and spine injuries cause most deaths:|

Vote libertarian. ;)

^^

If they were libertarian they wouldn't be all for helmet laws ;)

The way that I look at it is, firstly, I DO in fact where my helmet even though my state does not require me to do so. Sorry, but I just wanted to say that again. :)

I ALSO pay tax dollars, so why should your tax dollars and your opinion carry more weight than mine?

I also don't understand your "darwin awards-style" statement. Are motorcycle riders individuals that should be "weeded" out of the gene pool like a biological disease? And remember, not all motorcycle accidents are caused by motorcyclists themselves, there is help from the "four wheeled friends" out there who can't be bothered to look around before they barrel their way out into the road or switch lanes. 8)

I find your point of view quite disturbing.

Maybe everyone should be required to throw away their cars because they kill god knows how many people worldwide each year! We also shouldn't have Christmas trees because they could burn our houses down. Do you see where I am going with this? It's easy to say "yeah, just make that a law" but do you understand what kind of can of worms that opens up and how your a giving the government pretty much free rein to dictate your life as they see fit?

Hey folks,

I'm getting my motorcycle license this fall and by next summer I'm going to buy a brand-new Kawasaki Ninja 650R. Maybe a hookup with NYC-area folks to show a n00b some open-road techniques? :D

Gratzi

^^^^ Hardly at all. 95% n00b. But the program that will waive my NYS road rest gives 4 hours classroom and 16 hours road experience. I'm not sure what bikes they use, probably little 250cc babies.

Now I'm looking at a Ninja ZX-6R. I mean what's the point if you can't lose a cop when you have to? ;) I know I know. Baby steps for the big kid... :D

lol nice. Ya the MSC are a good thing to do, so I've heard. I've never done it lol. I really do need to get my license one of these days. :o

that'll kill yer back, tobala. sports bikes are good weekend toys, but i couldn't do any touring on one. get a big trailie instead, they're really coming into fashion now and for good reason. ;)

Yeah, I know. Common sense vs. thrill-seeking has always been my downfall...

Maybe a mid-level Vulcan will be a better choice--anyway, about 10 months to make up my mind (or lose it).

i always wear a helmet no matter what and i think evryone else should too....
the only time i dont is when im going down a1a byu the beach and pretty much dont go over 35mph.......... i love when i see these douch bags riding around town like if there head hits the ground at 60mph its not gonna crack open like an egg.... i ride a honda 929 and love it to death!!! any stunters in here???

i've done a few stunts, but i didn't actually mean to do them at the time. ;)

It's AWESOME that you are taking a class. I took one and they are absolutely priceless. They are going to teach you a heap load of stuff!!

I did a weekend deal. On Friday night we had class, Saturday was riding in the morning/afternoon and then we had class inside until the evening. Sunday was more riding outside and then the road test.

I got my license on Sunday and before Friday I had never even ridden a motorcycle before.

Did I mention that the class is well worth the money? =D

The Kaw Vulcan is a nice looking bike, I rode with a couple at the rally that I went to last weekend. I thought about getting one, but I am really glad that I went with the Suzuki Volusia instead. You should also look into the Suzuki Boulevard if you are going to be looking into the cruiser style bikes.

Before I had ever purchased a bike I thought that I wanted a Ninja. My friend let me ride her Suzuki crotch rocket around a parking lot and boy am I glad that she did because after riding her bike I decided that I would NEVER own a crotch rocket. It was killer on my back and I felt like my ass was sticking up in the air.

we have these 'bikesafe' courses in scotland, which used to be free. go to the local police station on friday night for some classwork etc. and then meet them outside the next day on your bike for some practical lessons.

that was one of the most enjoyable day's riding i've ever had, no exaggeration. :D

and because i had just recently passed my test, i got some one on one tuition.

uk police bikers are fucking amazing. they are fast as hell but make everything so fucking effortless. i learned a lot that day, that's for sure, and i remember those lessons every time i get on the bike.

best *nothing* i ever spent. =D

it was fucking great fun being 'chased' by a police bike at 90mph+ through the country, knowing i wouldn't get pulled over! :D

Oh yeah....here are some pics from the rally I went to:

Take a look at the parking lot we took over at the hotel:

Stopped during our run...another parking lot that we took over, my bike is 5th from the left in the front row :)

A non motorcycle pic but still from the same weekend, here is Sonic and I. I was pretty well mashed, I had a whole bottle of wine to myself before dinner and in less than 45 minutes time, please excuse the chubby girl with the wine glass in her hand! *yikes*
