Women are the smartest. I have some unique views on intelligence...I think.

I really think the whole "multiple" intelligences thing is bullshit; it was created to sell a lot of books and make less intelligent people feel good about their talents rather than intelligence. (nothing wrong with that) In fact, after high school and especially after college, I think intelligence matters far less than talent and motivation anyway.

I also think very few people are significantly above or below the average intelligence. People tend to perform well at what interests them. If they simply can't get interested in a typical intelligence test, they probably won't score highly. The whole issue is also very obscured by personal agendas - if someone pretends to be stupid so a "smarter" person does work for them, who's really smarter?

I personally know more ignorant guys than I do girls but I wouldn’t consider us woman as a group, to be more intelligent than guys or vise versa. I feel that each of us are just more capable in different ways! Seriously, if you think about it, we females would have a difficult time getting by with out you guys and you guys would have a difficult time without us as well.

I consider this thread to have a lot of male attributes in that, it hasn’t clearly defined weather or not this gender specific intelligence is for the betterment of society but rather, the sole gratification to have the label “More intelligent than the other”. re your first sentence i think there would substantial agreement that it is "the g factor" as defined by Jensen.

IQ tests are calibrated so that the average for both males and females averages 100 but someitmes they get out of whack and then males seem to average 2 points higher.

anyway as others ( and p'raps even myself have pointed out ) the curve is steeper for females than males. 2 other ways of expressing this are to say the SD is higher for males than females or that males predominate at both ends of the curve.

some races are more intelligent than others.

some countries are more intelligent than others.

some ages are more intelligent than others. apart form the Flynn Effect which suggests an increase in "g factor" of around 4 points per decade it is suggested that beyond about age 40 the average person might lose 1 IQ point every year.

but all this digresses from my main point.

on the Larry King live show i saw an interview with Bill Maher ( an American comedian who i consider very very intelligent ) in which he semi seriously suggested the southern states were less intelligent than the rest of the US and p'raps their votes should be discounted ( paraphrasing ).

whilst googling on this subject months ago i came across a study ( in a 1st world European country ) that suggested IQ scores in rural areas were 10 points lower than in the cities.

logic would suggest same could well be true as the smarter types from the rural areas would tend to migrate to the cities leaving a depleted gene pool ( IQ wise ) across many decades or centuries.

If we want to operationally define the factor we are talking about, and equate intelligence with "doing well on 'x' text", then we could indeed say one sex was more intelligent than the other. We could also say one race was more intelligent, or that one country was more intelligent or one age level. But, in reality, we would be saying that they performed better on a certain measure.

I just wanted to add this as the full quote, as I most certainly do NOT believe that one race, gender, country, etc is necessarily more intelligent than another.

men are "smarter" when it comes with immediate decisions. As in, when asked a question they will come up with a better more correct answer immediately, as opposed to women. Women, however, will come up with a better answer given more time.

Why/How is this relevant?

Especially in the workplace, researchers have concluded that when you need an immediate answer, go to a man. When you have a long term project, or have a question that gives more time for an answer, go to a woman.

I'd love to see the citations for your research. My years of experience as an extremely solution-oriented legal administrative professional has taught me *not* to beat around the bush and to answer questions according to how they are presented, with reference to the subject matter at hand.

I've seen precious little science in this thread (with the exception of fizzy and xtcxtc, awesome posts you 2) and tons of speculation. I'd like to see more science, please.
