Are men smarter than women? (merged)

The whole fucking iq test stuff is irrelevant and crap. It is a test that tests your knowledge - that has nothing to do with intelligence. Someone coming from a poor background may be intelligent but not have access to the kind of education needed to ace an iq test. Everyone is different and different people are interested in different things. Different people are smarter at different things...

That's too much of a generalization.....there are smart women and men...then there are stupid women and stupid men.....you can never say that as a whole one is smarter than the other.
 
ok, I dont get it... How in the world could anybody possibly even come close to proving something like 'men are generally smarter then women'?

I just dont see how it could be done, taking all factors into account.

The assumption that intelligence is inherent is nothing but an assumption. Where is there any proof that intelligence is inherent? I haven't seen any.... if there is some.. i would like to see it..

Then to top it all off.... what does it matter if the average man is smarter then the average woman. Does that mean that every man is smarter then every woman? No...Does it mean that because you are man, you are smarter then any woman? No... Does it mean that you are more likely to be smarter then a woman just because you are a man? No... There are many many other factors to be taken into account.. So where does any of this get you? Why does it matter? What are you going to possibly use such information as 'men are smarter then woman' for? Where does it get you? What conclusion can you draw from that statement other then one that is absolutely useless even if the statement was true?

if i disagreed it is more likely i would have responded. women do indeed score higher on verbal/linguistic ability and same is weighted higher in IQ tests so the mean for BOTH genders is supposed to equal 100.

re empathy i would tend to agree but same is harder to measure.

btw brain size does correlate with IQ.

hi jase. i do not think the japanese outscoring caucasians on maths/spatial tests is enviromental but more genetic.
 
I dont think either sex is smarter. But i will say this, if woman were smarter than men they would realize they have complete control over men through sex. If they were smarter they would be running this world and would have all men as sex slaves because we all know men cannot go without sex. I am just thankful woman are as smart as men and not smarter!
 
Genes code for proteins, genetic advantages are seen when a protein product is better suited to its environment than another's. So when a woman's environment is different than a man's as it always is due to years and years of gender stereotyping, genetic intelligence is an ambiguous characteristic. I read an abstract a while ago that claimed that the increased verbal capacity in women is due to gossiping, a supposed "defense mechanism" against men. The increased spatial capacity in men is due to thousands of years working with tools. Over time, the genes regulating stem cells would've changed and specialised those areas for both sexes

Re: Brain size = Intelligence. The Neanderthals had a larger brain cavity than our ancestral Cro-Magnons, had access to similar resources, yet were millenia behind in tool development.

Im from the entrepeneur camp over here. Ive been successful and know many self made millionaires- none of whom are women, although most of my good friends are women, so Im not at all biased as to who I hang out with. I would have to challenge this statement, understanding that perhaps this is in a more traditional context where women are biased against. An entrepeneur only sees green- not race or sex.

I wouldnt equate traditional companies with intelligence anyhow- whereas an entrepeneur MUST be intelligent to be successful. Even Don Lupre!
 
All this being said, Why does it even matter? We all know that it comes down to the individual to succeed, not their gender. And IQ doesnt mean much if you dont apply it.
 
Bah. "Smart" refers to the human classification for how inconcievable a person's cognition appears in relation with others' cognition.

But without the other, neither gender would fluorish, nor would it be capable of reproduction.

I think classifying brain capacity and function is silly and useless. There is an equal divide in the amount of "smart" men and women, at least in my mind. Humans as a species thrive on dividing and classifying things - a practice which has gotten many a person into trouble and/or killed. What about racism? Gender itself? It's all about dividing one thing from another so that our insignificant minds are *that* much more capable of concieving the inconvievable.

Im with you xtcxtc... its ludicrous to suggest (in the face of evidence) that men and women are so different in so many ways, yet somehow have identical minds.

The same goes for race... look how far apart races are physically. In the time that it took to evolve in those ways, its just stupid to suggest that by some magical coincidence the brain just stayed the same.

Thats not racist. Its not sexist. Its fact.

As for men and women... Id be hesitant to say men are more "intelligent" since I think there are many kinds of intelligence. Id probably say that men have a better visual grasp of complex problems (and so a faster result in them), while women are better some other areas. That probably helps men in something like an IQ test, but women have other tests that they are ahead in too.

You realise that humans haven't enough gentetic difference acros all races to infact be considered a seperate race in the same way you could seperate dogs into different races.

I think the minimum genetic difference to be a seperate race is 0.03% or something.

Which is much higher then the differance in humans.
 
Yep I do realise that.

However we are not talking about dogs. The accepted term when discussing humans is "race". So I will stick with that.

And if my first line in my other post offended some, the purpose of it was to help get the thread back on track, so no apoligies. :)
 
Women get periods. Men don't. That makes men smarter. Why would women want to bleed for 3 days? That's not very smart of them. Case closed. When women stop having periods (on their own will), then they will be smarter then men. Menopause doesn't count cuz that's your body stopping your period, not your own will. Case closed.

Respect to people without periods.
