That is true, Burton did kinda fuck up Willy Wonka, but this a totally different story. A much much much dark and insane story then what Disney presents it to be. I think Tim will pull through with this one.

I dont see the Card soliders dancing and singing anytime soon like those copy-paste renderings of that one mexican/arab oompa

^^

i disagree. i think this one might be worse actually...apparently its in 3D. i actually love 3D, but i'm thinking this is going to be an over CGI-ed, awkward mess with, pop songs, the white rabbit reaching jar-jar binks levels of irritation, and a general butchering of the story.

i hope i'm wrong though lol.

" Linda Woolverton adapted the screenplay and I am told added some socio-political context to the film’s narrative."

great! a political message lol.

Both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are truly darkly written stories. Sure, the first adaptation of Charlie wasn't nearly as dark as the book and I think the second addressed that but the first was still much much better than Burton's adaptation (IMO).

I'm with jsg. I'm afraid Burton will ruin this too. :\ The stills look nice, but so did the stills to the Burton's Charlie. We'll see but I'm not holding my breath.

none of you remember how bad he fucked up willy wonka huh?

this is going to suck imo.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel that way. I heard about this movie being made about 2 hours ago & I insantly thought to myself, "when will Burton stop doing this?" How many more remakes are in store for this guy. And Charlie and the Chocolate factory was no good in my opinion & I too am afraid this will be worse than that.

there is nothing "dark" about any of burton's work. to me, the man has been playing the same note since that headless horseman movie (whatever it's called). it's good that he finally found a story to do which matches his style (unlike the tedious planet of the apes), but not being a fan of either the book or the director, my enjoyment of this could ironically go either way.

and even if he had intended to make these stories darker, there is no possible way he could get either willy wonky or alice by the studio without having it cater for young kids (sadly, a major financial demographic).

I love Tim Burton's works!
I'm looking forward to this one, but the pictures imply that some of the characters are changed, which I don't like.
It could be amazing or terrible, I'm going with amazing for now, but we'll see.

^ So did I, jesus that was bad.

I feel like everyone holds onto Nightmare before Christmas or Edward Scissorhands like he's going to make another gem when in actuality it's more likely he'll make another Sleepy Hollow (hopefully ;)) or Planet of the Apes. :\

I hated Sweeny Todd so maybe that's where people are separating over Burton.

Also, I see from IMDBPro he's scheduled to remake Nineteen Eighty-Four?!? Fuck you Tim Burton.

well, since, he's also done "big fish", which was great in my opinion

but yes, because he's done a few wonderful films, it's quite disappointing when he comes out with Sweeny Todd or the chocolate factory

Mars Attacks & Beetle Juice are great also. I feel like Big Fish was the last of his good movies.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that he doesn't fuck this one up!! I've hated a lot of his work :\

Tim Burton made Mars Attacks?

I kinda liked that film, as cheesy as it was.

^ Yup, that was the point of it. To make a nowadays version of all those all old B-class sci fi movies.

He also made Ed Wood which is a great great movie.

^those are my two most favourite burton films. they are head and shoulders better than all the other. oh and beetlejuise of course.

mars attacks was a masterpiece

it was made to be the cheesiest possible on purpose
it was a caricature from the first to the last second, and it worked a marvel
unfortunately many people missed this and didn't like it
when i came out of the theater i gave i a 10/10

(on a slightly related note, that's also what happened with starship troopers.
so many people laughed at the movie saying it was such a cheesy action movie.
you had to be half blind not to see that it was a parodie, and cleverly done at that)
