Does anyone here find that buspirone or diphenoxylate have any reasonable efficacy in mitigating the range and severity of withdrawal symptoms? I would imagine that, though probably not as effective as a benzo, buspirone would probably help a bit with the psychological and restlessness-related subjective aspects, given that it's a sedative anxiolytic.
Diphenoxylate I'm curious about because, as a very weak opioid I would think that it would help with all symptoms to some extent (in a "better than nothing" sort of way,) and as a drug used in the treatment of irritable bowl syndrome I would expect it to have very potent implications on the GI-related problems that tend to accompany any significant opiate withdrawal.
Also, on an unrelated note, a lot of people seem to try to get to sleep during withdrawal using over-the-counter antihistamines, and it's been mentioned in this thread many times on a lot of posters' lists of "things to have during a kick." I would think that this would be counterproductive because many of them, particularly, subjectively, diphenhydramine, can cause or worsen, especially in a person already suffering from opiate withdrawals, restless leg syndrome and muscle spasms, which seem to be the root cause of most opiate-related insomnia in the first place.
