Well, shit.. Ill just some it up.
Speed/Coke - A lack of confidence or ambition
Opiates/Downers - a need to end some sort of pain or
mental turmoil.
Hallucinogens/Ecstasy - the inability to accept the simplicity
of the way life is now, and the need to find a deeper meaning,
even if that meaning does not exist.
Alcohol - All sorts of things, from blocking pain, to feeling inadequate
about your sober socializing skills, to feeling the need to be part of a
group.
Marijuana - Can be used for any or all of those 4 up there.
Now, look at your own drug usage, and tell me that you dont enjoy
them because of those very reasons I posted above.
You may say "I take opiates because they make me feel good,
I am not escaping anything". I beg to differ. They make you feel good
because the body euphoria is a better feeling than the way you feel sober.
In other words, you taking them cuz they make you feel good is your way
of dealing with the gap you feel in feeling normal.
Note that aside from drugs, things like religion, food, exercise, friends,
relationships, meditation, hope, etc. are all used for these purposes.
So the question really is whether using chemicals is unethical when you
have these other methods. Or maybe is it that the other, "ok" ways, are just as unethical. The way I view it, is that humans can never be satisfied,
and always seek contention. Therefore, if one way is wrong then they all are, but in the long run, its just our nature, and those of us on drugs have found the easiest way to remedy it, while not letting social stigma affect our decscions.
