^ It is a good debate :).

Precisely. Currently the vast majority of people who use drugs are uneducated on the subject - they take things with no idea of quality (or even what the substance actually is or what it really does) and are essentially clueless. If all were legal then people would know what the are taking and why - there would be no need for BL :).

To clarify a little, I'm not suggesting that all drugs should be legalised tomorrow as that would obviously cause huge problems. What I would like to see is a staggered legalisation starting with the most likely candidates (heroin would be the obvious example) in tandem with a massive increase in education and harm reduction resources. Eventually - many years in the future - all drugs would be available to all.

It would take time and resources, and there would be massive problems in the short term but, in a generation or two's time, our decendants will look back on these years with the same sense of bemusement as we look back to alcohol prohibition - a futile and damaging exercise in stupidity :).

I really don't see that there is any other option, nor should there be. Prohibition causes nothing but misery for millions and I just can't understand why anyone would be in favour of keeping such a pointless policy.

Well... I can live in optimistic hope for a brighter future I suppose 8).

very good point.. I can't argue with that, staggered legalization, I like it :D

well I have always been 'pro legalization' but after taking acid quite a lot I was not sure whether that should EVER be legal.. but your explanation up thar is a good one.. I still only fell passionate about weed and H being available, but yes, the right thing would be working towards total legalization

total legalization, whether staggered or all at once, is the ONLY way to stop this bullshit they call prohibition.

i voted marijuana and the non dissasociative psychedelics (but not mdma). i would have voted for all but i'm selfish and don't want to be able to walk into a store to get hard drugs because i'd never get sober (hard enough walking by liquor stores.)

edit: i would decriminalize all drugs, i don't think anyone should go to jail for an activity that only harms themselves if anyone at all.

I just dont understand what all the rave is about weed, I saw the poll results and was dissapointed to see that people voted for weed more than any other drug and a little more even than legalizing all drugs. Why is weed so popular?

I hate weed or any psychadelic(sp)drug because it makes me feel paranoid, "stupid" and just depressed and lousy. Also strangely I was able to get laughing and feeling good only a few times when I used to hang out with this guy I knew a few years back. We would only get together to get high mainly, however for some strange reason I built up a huge tolerance to weed fast and quit using it totally when I "hit the bullseye" found my permanent drug of choice(opiates).

there are so many reasons weed should be legal above other drugs, fair enough if you don't enjoy it but its blindingly obvious a large proportion of humans on this planet do, and it would great if they weren't criminals.. Opiates should also be legal, its a disgrace that addicts are arrested for being in possession..

give it a couple of generations, providing drug use is still generally as prevalent as it is today, then the lawmakers have got to see sense, one hopes :|

drug use is always gonna be prevalent, it might go down one year and up the next but it will always be here. i def agree marijuana should be legal and it is the most likely candidate to be legalized relatively soon but i also believe that EVERY SINGLE DRUG there is should be legalized and taxed similar to alcohol and tobacco. it would end rediculously taxed prices the drug dealers charge, end the black market that controls illicit drugs, eliminate dangerous "cuts", you would know the exact dose of said drug ingested, the stigma would be greatly reduced as would the lifestyle. non-violent drug users would not be sent to jail and this would reduce the prison population by half at least, the truth about drugs could actually be taught instead of complete nonsense and harm reduction classes should be taught in schools and be manditory for anyone to ingest a drug. and you should be 18+ for cigs and marijuana and 21+ for alcohol and other drug like psychedelics and hard drugs so that your brain can be fully developed. nearly all of the problems associated with illicit drugs are caused by prohibition of drugs. there are soooo many reasons why the war on drugs should end and just about no reasons why it should continue. sorry for the rant but this bullshit pisses me off sooo much.

I just wouldn't want all the other drugs leagalized because then i would be tempted to do them every day! if weed was legalized it would allow me to do it every day much easier!!!! lol

"Since the drugs that are currently illegal are pretty much arbitrary, it would be a silly option anyway. Pot is illegal, but alcohol is legal? P. cubensis is illegal, but A. muscaria is legal? GHB is illegal, but DXM is legal? Etc."

Well the drugs u listed that ARE legal are much less enjoyable then their counterparts. Ex: Dxm is usually much less enjoyed by the masses than ghb

Well said. :)

ALL, for adults only and in a controlled manner via either a medical provider or at least some sort of supervisory environment that featured a vetting process. You cannot legislate morality.

I would legalize most drugs apart from the 2C-x Family, the 4-AcO Family, the 4-HO Family and the DOx Family basically because they are pretty new and long term dangers are not known.

I don't see why all drugs can't be legalised. They could have a system where you go to the doctor and say what you want, he could check your medical record and see if it is suitable for you personally, if not he could then suggest something else. He could then give you a prescription which you take to a pharmacy and pick it up. They could even keep the prices the same as street prices at the moment. That way people won't go and get a script fora gram of coke for 7.10GBP (UK). Governments would make fuck loads of money. Users would know what they are getting, they could get proper education in schools from an early age, not that DARE shit, some proper real facts, the good and the bad of each drug. Then as they grow up they could make educated decisions about what drugs they want and what they don't want rather than being told that one toke off a spliff will have you hooked and next week you'll be a heroin addict!

The main drugs I would legalise would be MDMA as it has now been shown to have very little addiction potential, it wont give you Parkinson's as they said (all the original ravers that cained pills now seem to be fine), the chance of death if you get proper education about drinking water but not too much, not taking too many etc... is very slim. It is an excellent drug for couples that are having troubles, take some pills and I guarantee that you wont be fighting anymore (at least while on the pills ;) ) It is a good drug for treatment of post traumatic stress disorders etc...

Weed for so many reasons that everyone already knows so there is no reason for me to list them but one of the main ones is that it is great for people having chemotherapy, usually they are that sick/ nauseas that they don't eat. Get a spliff in there mouths and the nausea goes and the hunger rises. Problem solved!

GHB mainly because it is my drug of choice ;)

and LSD because there is no physical addiction potential, it is generally safe, it can give people new ways of thinking (probably the main reason it's illegal :) ) and it is a drug that I have never tried but would love to.

From what I've seen and read, I'd say everything but crack, meth, PCP and heroin. Those just seem incredibly inherently destructive. Other than that, as many people point out, two of the most lethal drugs--tobacco and alcohol--are already legal. Why not legalize things that are actually good for you? Psychedelics and ganja at the very least should be completely unrestricted.

They can most certainly be very damaging in various ways, but so can psychedlics, cannabis and all the other drugs legal or otherwise. Legalising drugs means that they are easier to deal with for society as a whole. Prohibition achieves absolutely nothing of any merit whatsoever for any of them - it just makes the situation worse.
